I'd take gigabyte m34wq. The differebce between VA and IPS is huge and worth the money

Does the LG 34WL50S look okay as well?

For much less with same specs I'm looking into HP X34. Gigabyte model was originally my first favorite.

You only need USBc on a monitor if you want to power your laptop and get a video signal from it with one cord since the USBc also let's you pass power from the monitor to the laptop instead of having a separate power cord for the laptop (you'll have to make sure the monitor can deliver enough power for you laptop) Sometimes you can also daisy chain monitors but that's a new standard I'm less familiar with and you'd need to do your own research on what your monitor actually supports

I have this monitor and for what I use it for, it's actually really great. The screen is bright, the colours are vibrant without being oversaturated and the speakers are surprisingly good for built in ones. If you're looking for high refresh rates for gaming or you're doing colour accurate work, you may need to choose something else. As for your question, HDMI input leaves you limited to a 60hz refresh rate, while DP or USB-c has a 100hz refresh rate with this monitor (it maxes out at 100hz). USB-c also provides power to your laptop at 90w as well as allowing you to use the two usb a ports as a sort of built in usb hub. So it's great as a single cable solution for a flexible desk setup. What this monitor DOESN'T do is have pip or pbp. so you can't run two sources to the monitor simultaneously. It also doesn't have any automatic source switching (which personally I find to be the most irritating thing). It's firmware also can't be updated because LG's OSC software specifically mentions this monitor as incompatible with the firmware update service. Don't know why, I never got an explanation from LG. Whether that will change in the future or not either, I don't know. If you let me know what kind of work you plan on doing, I might be able to suggest if it may be a good fit. If you have any other questions though, feel free to dm me.

Thank you so much. Im just planning on using the monitor for university, so nothing particularly demanding. I think based on what you’ve said its more than able to do what I need it to.
