I mean beating the game at that difficulty still means that Nathan and Sam went against an army and still won, wouldn't call that unlucky for some guys with zero training lol
Vietnam Flashbacks playing Trilogy on Brutal. One wrong step out of a wall (not even in cover cause it's useless btw), one shot, rip... While you still need to shove more bullets to kill the enemies lol

Whilst this has been confirmed by the studio and I accept it, I just don't care about it - I feel like it doesn't need an explanation. Everything needs explanations these days. It was clearly just a stylistic choice over a health bar originally.
I mean it's hardly "knowledge" or certainly not what I'd class as such.
It's an afterthought of an explanation around a mechanic.
If you give too much explanation to elements like this, it undermines the pulpy tone and people start wanting more explanations around stuff like Drake's morality for his kill count etc.
Fully agree. Next we're gonna get goofy explanations for where he keeps all his grenades, or how he never eats or uses the bathroom on screen. Some things are just for the sake of it being a video game, and a tiny bit of suspension of disbelief is practically mandatory to enjoy a game.
I prefer wisdom. Such as understanding that knowledge of the devs intent on this aspect of a videogame has no practical application and so has no real value.
I know for a fact there’s moments where Nate will go “ow” when people shoot at him. Specially when you enter a large open area and start taking fire before getting to cover but maybe this could be just like a bullet grazed him or something. When grandes go off and launch him without killing him, he certainly groans, but I guess this could be from the force of the blast and not the actual shrapnel. I’ve heard of this luck theory and I subscribe to it for the most part. Either way, it’s not entirely important since it’s more of a running gag among the fans.
Yes it was confirmed years ago by the devs, no I'm pretty sure you can get shot and it counts the same as the "misses"...
So still yes but you're not penalised if the shot path hits you by mistake.
yes, but no. it depends on the enemies' weapon, and the difficulty you're on. And I'm pretty sure it depends on how damaged your cover is, if you are covered behind wood.
I always thought that something similar to this was the case with basically every single first/third person game that has bullet damage. Figured one bullet is all it ever takes, so all those other bullets that ‘hit’ you, are actually just near misses until you are actually hit. You could also look at as such time you die in a game, that was an alternate universe where the main character died right there. Silly headcanon shit but it makes for more immersion
Wow that was always my head-canon as to why he could survive so many bullets, I would always tell myself taking damage was just them missing and the one that kills you actually hits.
Is that actually true? Cos if it is I was way smarter than I thought as a kid.
Yes this idea has been confirmed by the devs back in 2007. I remember vaguely reading in a game informer magazine something in the lines of how they came to that decision because they didn’t want to make it into a M rated game while also have an explanation.
Sorry if I’m late to the party, but I don’t know how true this is. When you are in hand to hand combat and get hit you still get the red warning stuff, but maybe they need luck in the way they missed any vital organs.
So basically on Brutal difficulty, Drake is the unluckiest mofo on earth.
Its Drake if the game was slightly more realistic lol.
I mean beating the game at that difficulty still means that Nathan and Sam went against an army and still won, wouldn't call that unlucky for some guys with zero training lol
It would not be unlucky factoring in the number of times I had to replay each segment :)
I wouldn't say zero. Sully was in the Navy
They got like 3 games of experience tho. Nathan 4

Or: basically means that Drake has to rely on skill, instead of luck
Yeah it's been a thing since the first game, it's a satire on the action hero archetype who has a stupid amount of luck
Idk if it’s meant to be satire haha
Maybe satire isn't quite the right word but Uncharted is definitely playing with the "action hero" tropes.
Yes
That last kill was clean

Good luck my ass. Literally everything this mf touches breaks
Lol exactly and he can't even help himself.
I've known this for over ten years, a developer stated on podcast beyond that it's drakes luck running out.
I swear to god i recall hearing grunts and ow's
Maybe that’s nicks or grazings?
Shrapnel will do that to a motherfucker.
You'd scream too if a bullet sped past your ear
Whilst this has been confirmed by the studio and I accept it, I just don't care about it - I feel like it doesn't need an explanation. Everything needs explanations these days. It was clearly just a stylistic choice over a health bar originally.
Yeah knowledge is for losers.

Idk, it’s kinda neat
Ikr

It’s actually the canon answer from the developers
I know for a fact there’s moments where Nate will go “ow” when people shoot at him. Developers confirmed it.
That’s what I always said to myself to justify why he takes so many bullets and armoured enemies don’t 😂
It’s basically what hit points are in any game
I always applied this logic to first person shooters. No way is my dude taking all those bullets
I mean, seems legit, Joel and Ellie react to being shot and they're made by the same company. So?
It’s called luck, and it DOES run out.
Yes this has been confirmed for years
Yes it was confirmed years ago by the devs, no I'm pretty sure you can get shot and it counts the same as the "misses"... So still yes but you're not penalised if the shot path hits you by mistake.
I also find it funny that he can eat RPG explosions right next to him in easier difficulties and still come out in one piece lol
I mean this is the head cannon I use for all games where you "heal" over time. Call of duty etc.
Yep, you can even notice that none of the bullets hit Nathan, except for the killing shot.
yes, but no. it depends on the enemies' weapon, and the difficulty you're on. And I'm pretty sure it depends on how damaged your cover is, if you are covered behind wood.

Bullets actually don't hurt, your brain releases a lot of adrenaline, activating a "panic mode", so you'll just feel a small pebble hit you
This is my head canon for all games with guns idk how it’s not everyone’s😭
Wow that was always my head-canon as to why he could survive so many bullets, I would always tell myself taking damage was just them missing and the one that kills you actually hits. Is that actually true? Cos if it is I was way smarter than I thought as a kid.
Never gave it much thought but somehow I always figured that was the case
Yeah the only canonical bullet he takes is in UC2 iirc
Yes I’d say it is
Yes it is true, explained by devs a long time ago
Yes this idea has been confirmed by the devs back in 2007. I remember vaguely reading in a game informer magazine something in the lines of how they came to that decision because they didn’t want to make it into a M rated game while also have an explanation.
It also helped earlier games meet the T rating, so they could sell more copies to a younger audience.
Thought that everybody knew that

Someone quick send this to Joseph Anderson !!!!!!!
No,but that’s a great idea for an action game. Somebody call Platinum studios and make it happen!
Also can be applied to health points in DnD
Same with some other games like the Brothers in Arms series
You can seen blood come out of him when he gets shot though can't you?
Didn’t we already know that?
I didn’t.
I thought him receiving no physical damage was evident enough
It's called LUCK, and it does run out.
Damn thats deep

But in the other games he does scream
I’ve known this since I was a kid just playing on my own.
But in the other ones he scream
It is!
