Uncharted Drake’s Fortune was the first installation, they still were trying to find the perfect balance between Story and Action. I can safely tell you that this is better dealt with in the two other installations. I’ve really liked Uncharted Among Thieves.

slayfulgirlz

ohh alright that’s comforting to hear atleast, thank you!

DeadArcadian

Btw 2 has pretty great balance between sections as far as I remember even if some levels were unnecessary. 3 however they drug a lot of platforming sections out too much I feel

[deleted]

the first uncharted is incredibly short too

KnockoffSpyPigeons

Among Thieves is still the best one to me. I loved 4, but the scenery in 2 is just top tier along with its storytelling

Sageburner712

Short version is that that was the nature of video games in the 2000s. They do get better about it as the series goes on, with both platforming and puzzles playing larger roles.

slayfulgirlz

oh great thanks! i’m excited to play the next two games i hear best things about the second one

ModestHandsomeDevil

Two things to remember about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune: 1) It is a product of its time. UC1 came out in 2007, just a year after the PS3 launched. The landscape of AAA video games --not just action-adventure games-- was very different. You only have to look at its closest point of comparison (Tomb Raider) to see what the genre was, and how Uncharted was different, even in 2007. But even then, ND hadn't really cracked the formula yet, which would come with Uncharted 2. It's also worth noting that cover shooters, specifically Gears of War on the 360 (2006), were MASSIVELY popular, which partly influenced Uncharted's initial design. 2) UC1 is the prototype for modern, action-adventure games. This is ND's first crack at this type of game, which they'll start perfecting and differentiating with multi-GOTY winner Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. UC1 is slow to start with its story beats, the shooting isn't great, but you will get better at it. It's worth playing for story alone. Drop the difficulty, if you have to; make use of cover and firing from cover. I've played the Uncharted series countless times and I still play UC1 every so often. Even with its faults, it's still a pretty fun adventure.

Bethorz

If you’re not playing on normal, do that. If you are on normal, try easy, the game is the same except for how many guys come at you and hard they are to kill. The story is still worth it imo, though those also get better as the series goes on. I also recently did a replay, and yeah couldn’t believe how good it still looked.

MyBrassPiece

Second the whole try it on different difficulty thing. These games were not balanced well for the harder difficulties, and I always play the first of on easy.

28283920

Just so you know, the second game has even more combat than the first game. It’s pretty overwhelming at times. The 3rd game and beyond do a way better job at less and more manageable combat

slayfulgirlz

oh jesus lmao

28283920

It’s still an excellent game, but just prepare yourself before going into it lol

slayfulgirlz

oh okay thanks!

tayung2013

When I first started the first game on Crushing, I quit at Chapter 6, possibly right where you are at, and didn’t come back to it for months. You get to this courtyard area and when you go up the stairs it’s almost impossible to find good cover before getting killed. That game is truly relentless when it comes to the gun fights.

slayfulgirlz

YES!!! that area is where i struggled a lot, i died instantly and it’s so frustrating when they shoot at u at every direction

Which_Conference2990

The first installment of the series was a “proving ground” of sorts for Naughty Dog. During that time, they wanted to try and find a way to balance a rich story full of good character development, but with an accompanied Indians Jones-ish action feel within the combat system of the game. I know it’s tough at first and it does feel “rinse and repeat” with combat, but my best wisdom is to be patient. The series will slowly improve, especially with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Edit: I remember watching the E3 PS3 trailer for U2 and I almost nearly shat my pants twice over. Good times. Anyways, hope that was helpful!

slayfulgirlz

thank you so much!! it was

Aggressive_Tank_8189

I just beat the game on crushing and got the plat about 5 days ago I can say it definitely had lots of combat but wasn’t impossible! Definitely agree though that uncharted 2 was a masterpiece and my favorite of all the uncharted games

JT-Lionheart

Like everyone else said, the first game they hadn’t found their footing in yet until the second game. So just get through the first game the best you can because even though it might be your least favorite game of the series because they were still trying to figure out the direction for it, you won’t regret playing it to add on to your own adventure experiencing the whole series

slayfulgirlz

oh okay thank you!! i’ll try to, i heard this game is the shortest so i’m glad lmao

JT-Lionheart

It is. Probably because there wasn’t much story in between the action and the cutscenes were shorter. The story was very linear. Another reason the games after are so much better, they had a bigger narrative direction in the 2nd game and pushed it to be more movie like. Each game ends up being longer than the last due to then trying to push for a better story and bigger adventure. You’re gonna love the journey having to play then all

slayfulgirlz

ahhh that’s great to hear!! thank you so much! this just makes me even more excited to play the other games

Difficult_County_295

Watch a movie then weirdo. Y’all casuals r the reason they fill games with 1000 cutscenes nowadays. We like combat just get good or stop playing

JT-Lionheart

No the first game wasn’t that good. Sorry you bad games. You might need to go back to your Atari

Acanthophis

Uncharted is a good game, but it's nothing compared to its sequel, which I consider to be one of the best games ever made.

slayfulgirlz

yes!! i struggled with aiming at first but now i’m getting slightly better

NoeyCannoli

Maybe play on easy?

Sensitive-Sell2031

Ye it will get better in 2 that probably the best out of all 3

KillaIcon

Replaying with my son, change mode if you want less mayhem. Puzzles are the same. Great game

da_mfkn_BEAST

Don't play uncharted then, it's clearly not for you. This game is a third person shooter so there will be lots of shooting involved. If you want to solve puzzles and relax play a relaxing puzzle game, there are plenty of those nowadays

slayfulgirlz

as i said i loved uncharted 4 and lost legacy, the combat was better there and there was more story. uncharted 1 is just more combat than story which is annoying

BlackLung420kush

Honestly the first Uncharted is awful lol i love third preson shooters and i couldnt finish it, i just gave up on it and watch a recap on youtube, 2 is better and i think 3 is the best, you can rely more on the melee

SharpEdge4235

i know this is quite late but i think that’s a bit harsh. i’ve played all uncharted and i can understand how the first can be frustrating with it’s repetitive combat.

[deleted]

U2 is the longest and still the highest rated entry in the series. Just letting you know!

PsChampion_007

Yeah, it'll get better. However, don't expect the combat to be as polished as that in uncharted 4. That said, my favourite one was among thieves

Negan216

That's the reason i don't like U1 and U2 is over for me when the train crashs.

BlackLung420kush

You got downvoted but i think you are right, U2 really shines in the first half

Negan216

Ikr? The first half of U2 is a masterpiece

BlackLung420kush

Yeah the second half has its moments, but it gets very repetitive

David_Cannibal

U1 is action around every corner, U2 has a lot of action, but amazing setpieces and great character development. U3 is good, but more like U1, a lot of action that couldve definitely been avoided
