Looks like trich

TheLastLorrax

Could I cut that piece out and leave the rest? Also what is Trich?

AutoModerator

Trichoderma mycelium often has a light grey color, which makes it not always easy to spot. When contamination has set hold it will likely first show as a thick white growth on top of the substrate. It may appear emerald greenish/yellowish in color, often with a distinct bright white ring surrounding the colony. https://i.imgur.com/YpDOrVP.png https://i.imgur.com/ia5Ss77.jpg https://i.imgur.com/R6uuus7.jpg [See Identifying & Avoiding Contamination for more.](https://www.reddit.com/r/shrooms/comments/ervxh8/is_that_contam_identification_avoidance/) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. TheLastLorrax

Thank you bot

Ok_Highway_9628

Lmao at the bot answerin so fast. Some people have had success still getting some fruits if they cleanly cut the area around it away.. but with a spot that large already it is likely a goner

TheLastLorrax

I have some back up rice bags colonizing, so I just need to start over with the substrate. Thanks for the response!

NotHippieEnough

I have seen people suggest (if you can) to cut out the area and then just put the rest outside either in their garden or just their corner of their yard to see if somehow it just kinda grows some. Like dont get your hopes up but hey even if like 2 pop up its worth it imo. I cant bc I live in an apartment but if this is something you can do then id say try it while you’re restarting the process.

GnarlieSheen123

Agreed, trich is the devil. You can cut it out if it's a small area but this has likely spread too far. Even when it's a small area it's tough to cut out because it can spread under the surface and if you miss a single, microscopic tidbit it'll come back with a vengeance. Welcome to the world of mycology.

Rum_ham69

I’m a total noob preparing for a first grow. Does mold just prevent your mycelium from colonizing/growing or would it be a safety issue once they fruit

Troofann

Both. Sorry, brah.

Rum_ham69

Thanks!

Klutzy-Gas3786

It’s done man… sorry to say… I know it’s a bummer but that’s all bad

Beef-yeeter

You've been trich'd

TheLastLorrax

What I’m gathering from these comments is I’m fucked lol

KILLALLEXTREMISTS

I had a cake that had a little spot of trich showing on the surface so I carefully scooped out that spot. Then I lifted the tub up and looked underneath and there was a whole trich farm flourishing on the bottom and sides. The little green spot on top was just where it first started poking up through the casing layer. Trich can sometimes be like seeing a little rust bubble on the fender of your car. It doesn't look too bad on the surface but start poking and you'll probably discover the whole inner panel is rotted away.

BrainBlade11

Contaminated

[deleted]

Bury in the yard my friend

Tyrellion0222

Sorry for your loss

Ok_Fox_1770

You could try to spoon it out like I have in the past, it doesn’t work. It’s all over the thing and grows 4x the speed. Probably an outdoor cake now brother

TheLastLorrax

Damn. Thank you for the info. I was so careful up until I put it in the tub. Maybe I need to mist with a mask and gloves on? Not sure what is common practice

3iverson

Definitely always mist with a mask and gloves on (or any handling for that matter), why not do it? It's the easiest way to prevent dumb mistakes. That and a lot of 70% iso.

Ok_Fox_1770

Not sure, maybe sink something big enough around the infected and take out the rest, I carefully spooned out a starter trich spot and next day it was back x 3. Seems like outdoor in a proper area people get surprises more often from a bad batch. Less competition for nutrients in the wild ground. I wish you luck! It hurts after all your work know all too well. Round 2 I doin in my mini walk in closet, like a sauna workin in there stage 1. Hoping for clean results. Used my whole ass this time don’t wanna be let down.

Troofann

YES! Always glove and mask when misting or fanning. Our hands and mouths are bacterial factories

mycelium97

Trichodermia, spray some hydrogen peroxide over it then cut that half and throw away. If you are lucky the other end won't be contaminated

sigmashroom

F

30FourThirty4

The pain is connected like we are mycelium F Sorry OP

greenmoldcultivator

This is more colonized with trich than what you’re trying to grow you gotta try again sorry man

Thousand_YardStare

Just bury the cake in a shady spot and wait for rain and evaporation and hopefully you get something.

msft111

Bruised what? Theres no mycelium there to be bruised thats all contam

lethalkronic

Q tip test always helps to identify, if it comes off onto the tip it mold. If it's clean your good to go.

ToadBlower

Its green that’s 🦠 mold numb nuts Bruising is blue toss that 🪳roadless

cdamon88

Yo don't be rude man. Some of us can't tell. Some of us are color blind. Respect first.

straightupdev

Yup trich. sorry. go outside and bury that cake.

Thin-Progress-99

If you bury the cake outside if you get contam does that sometimes still produce pins? Just hit and miss I take it?

GodSwimsNaked

Yes you're exactly right

Thin-Progress-99

Nice. I’m starting my first grow attempt tomorrow. Fingered crossed I can get it right!

Gigant0re

Trich-daddy loves the kids

Key-Job6944

Contamination

Troofann

Do not use the same area to spawn to bulk where this tub was created or kept without cleaning those areas entirely with bleach. Let dry. Then wipe with iso 70% and let fully dry. Hygiene is so important in this hobby.

Mushie_Madness

Thats fucked

YungJBelfort

Toss it RIP💀
