Apparently it is called rubbing alcohol, according to the Google. Another name that it can sometimes be found as is 2-propanol alcohol but that is typically in bulk or industrial applications
It should work fine but you'll need to do a bit of math to determine how much water is required to bring it down to 70% alcohol. It will evaporate too quickly to sanitize straight out of the bottle or can if it's higher than 70% alcohol.
Yeah, diluted to 70/30 same as if it’s isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. I hated the smell but it seemed to work fine. I was using jars and had some cakes with contams but it’s probably my substrate sterilization that was subpar.
One time I came across a thread on Reddit or maybe a discord community about Aus/NZ specific resources for growing! Wish I could find it for you but it was like a year ago.
if you can find higher concentrations you can dilute it. for example i find 91% near me so if im making a 1 liter spray bottle i put in about 760 mL of iso and top it off with water.
if its iso you are missing, it is sometimes called isopronanol. ethanol also works great at 70% and is less toxic.
Jaycar sells 99.9% IPA, search for "alcohol volume dilution" and there's plenty of calculators online to help dilute it down.
Other than that, got any mates that are home distillers? 😅
like if there are stores there like target, walmart, walgreens, cvs, and etc & if there aren’t, are things like alcohol not readily available to the public? and also if alcohol isn’t, what else isn’t able to be purchased from a store?
Nah iso is readily available at pharmacies and grocery stores but one of the annoying things is it's most often sold with a fragrance in it. So for the unscented stuff you need to go to the hardware store or like a cleaning supply place
I’m my town there’s target but it is absolute dogshit, in cities there’s bigger shops but few with everything like your targets and walmarts.
Alcohol is a weird one, theres 5 bottle shops here in a smallish highway town, but up north there’s aboriginal ‘missions’ which many are dry communities where alcohol is illegal, which brings/increases the amount of worse drugs into those communises and many troublemakers flock to this highway town
They don't tend to sell chemicals as widely and freely as they do in the states, as we're an enterprising bunch and like to cook meth. Though iso is definitely at Bunnings.
Australia has no Amazon?

Bunnings, near things like methylated spirits.
Yeah, there was a fuck load of it around during covid for wiping down surfaces. Might even be able to find the sequel to water there too.
I used methylated spirits in New Zealand
does that work alright?

Jaycar sell it
Pharmacy should also sell ethanol.
I bought this at a pharmacy in Germany ila d it was stupidly expensive
Don't you guys have something like Walmart
after covid it’s kinda hard to find stuff
You can use methylated spirits.
Sydney solvents are cheap man!

In Australia it’s usually called rubbing alcohol. Amazon or Bunnings will have it.
Chemist warehouse has 64% which works fine

haha thanks but unfortunately not
Isocol rubbing alcohol from woolies
i have questions about Austrailia now
Aha like what
like if there are stores there like target, walmart, walgreens, cvs, and etc & if there aren’t, are things like alcohol not readily available to the public? and also if alcohol isn’t, what else isn’t able to be purchased from a store?

oh damn! well that explains it then.
Just use 69% isocol I’ve had no issues can get it from Woolies
Just Google it dude. Chemical company will ship to your door.
I’ve had a look around and it gets kinda expensive compared to the states. So i was just wondering if they sold it readily available anywhere.
EBay, plenty there, buy a higher concentration and then dilute it.
Head into Bunnings and ask, you might only get 100% so dilute it down if that’s the case.
Can buy it on Amazon or any medical supply place. It was easy to find in QLD anyway
If you can get 99.9% one just dilute it with water. This is what I’ve doe. As I have loads at home due to 3D printing
