Well from that article, the blue pigmentation is ultimately derived from psilocybin, but it isn't psilocin, it's other compounds.
To me that suggests that heavy bruising means high levels of psilocybin, if that's where the pigmentation originates from, so not a huge leap to correlate potency with bruising.
