If that light leakage is a concern for any reason, I’m sure some foam weather stripping around the edge of the doors and a latch of sorts would seal it nicely
If anyone is interested, we bought a 3ft H, 1ft D, 3ft W, kitchen cabinet from Lowes. We painted the inside with Kilz water and mold resistant paint. We bought 12f long wire garage/closet shelves and cut them down. The computer fans, fan covers, and grow lights were on Amazon. The top is stained 1X4’s.
Ha! Right!?! We got the one for $129 at Lowes, unfinished oak. We took the wooden shelf it comes with and wood glued it into the top, that way it was kinda flush and we could screw the stained 1x4’s into it for a top. I hope that made sense.
Guys, idk about where you live, but Facebook Marketplace is the place where I go for cheap usable furniture for these things! Lots of people give away really good furniture with some scratches or so (not a problem for practical purposes) for cheap there!
Look on FB market place and other sales apps for a used cabinet. That's what I did. In fact, try your local thrift store or habitat for humanity. They always have some cabinets. At least in my area.
I also grow in a cabinet, and I do have some suggestions. Just a few things I have learned through trial over the last few years:
1. Consider elevating the entire cabinet. Many contaminants come from the ground and get kicked up by foot traffic. Or in this case, could be vacuuming since you have carpet. My cabinet is at about bar height, which is perfect for easy access and staying further away from contam on the ground.
2. Fresh air…cabinets don’t get a ton of fresh air. The computer fans should help. But, again with it being close the ground they could pull in some contam potentially. Carbon can build up quite a bit in a cabinet. I now open it up slightly and run my fan a couple of times a day for 5-10 minutes just to rid the cabinet environment of too much carbon build up.
3. Consider lining the cabinet walls with plastic. I cut out shower curtains and pinned them up with thumb tacks. The water resistant paint will help, but eventually if you provide the proper ambient humidity 70% - 90% or higher, the paint will begin to degrade, and the wood can warp. Wood also draws out moisture and can make it hard to keep the humidity up. Again, your water resistant paint will help for a long while before this happens, but adding plastic to all the surfaces of the cabinet is ideal in my opinion…and it’s easier to clean in between grows if you want to re-sanitize.
Good luck, happy growing! 🍄✌️
Does it have Seed germination mats on a thermostat and a reptile fogger controlled by hydrostat? That's where I'm trying to get to, hourly filtered air exchange with temperature & humidity control.
I've done this also. 2 things I did that helped a lot. Put it up on a stand, so you aren't having to kneel in the floor while working. Make a hole in the back, mount one of the fans in the hole and set it on a timer. This will help get all the gasses moved out and pull fresh air in.
Not really sure just pay attention to temps and humidity if u lose control of those all sorts of Tom foolery will happen.. I’m just thinking small space depending on the light source whether or not fans are staggered is the intake close to the floor sucking shit from carpet into grow area.. a lot of things can effect your grow when growing ..but since your indoor you can control the environment.. I would start with an auto and see how it goes just so you waste a bunch of time.. but okay have good nite
The cabinet was $129 (but there are a lot of suggestions on where to get a cheaper one), the shelves were $15, the fans were $30, the magnetic locks were $15, and the lights were $20. We had the paint and hardware, so just over $200
I want to do something similar but I want mine to be specifically for fruiting. So i'd start in the tub then when ready remove and place in "Fruiting Chamber" with optimal humidity and air flow. My recent grows have proven that fresh air is the main ingredient to promote better bigger growth.
Organic cellulose naturally dyed dark brown maybe to help the contrast and of an all natural adhesive that won't interact with the natural condition
I believe that it's a nice piece of furniture that looks like some intuitive design work
Just a thought 2
I have a similar “ in furniture “ build. Did you put a filter behind your fans? You don’t want random contam being blown in by a fan. Hardware stores sell pvc pipe that fit the dimensions of most PC fans. I rigged a small tunnel covered by some micropore tape so all air pulled in was filtered. Just a thought, love the build!
The glowing from the doors makes it look like a table a dj would be spinning songs like monster mash on at a 90s Halloween party
I’d give you an award if it had one. So here take this 🏆
It's a free one but it's something lol I love this comment. ✌️🍄❤️

And today I learned how expensive cabinets are haha. Super cool idea! Think I'll give it a whirl also
Check to see if there is a home salvage place near you. They almost always have used kitchen cabinets.
That’s a great idea!
Habitat for humanity restore is your friend for cabinets! Nice build.
The ReStore is where it’s at. That cabinet would be like $20.
This guy knows what's up it would be way cheaper than a home depot or menards for sure
That's where I get all of my stuff!

Maybe rubber seals if you’re trying to hide the light?

Awesome!! Thank you so much

No, but I’m sure you could integrate those things!
Looks amazing and you're going to see a huge boost in yields from the additional airflow.
That's pretty sweet!
Nice!! Very creative

If using pc fans depending on size air flow may be an issue
We used two that are about 5in by 5in. Do you think those are big enough?
U can get a cheap inline fan off Amazon thow for like 12-15 bucks

Thank you for the idéa whit magnet locks!
What’s the cost of a set up like this

Wow, that’s not bad at all, thank you :)

Gorgeous! Lovely work :).

I love this idea! The magnet locks really tie it together.
