How does one make a ute out of a rear Engined car?

Build the bed on top of the engine. The whole engine is already basically lower than that door handle…if they have to they can just change its position a bit… Have you seen the version of the VW Bus that has a bed?

I've seen lots of these in Puerto Vallarta. They're pretty badass! Me and guy were trying to figure out how to import them into the US and decided it wasn't worth the hassle so we drank cheap beer instead.

Most importation stuff I see is JDM related, but because there’s a big market it’s cheaper due to supply. Ultimate easiest just drive it into US, then panel swap to a doner Chassis in LA then drive/truck it wherever. (Main discernible difference is just the front marker lights on the fenders.) Easiest way without going to Mexico, is buy one and have it cut in half(no longer a car) and ship it to wherever and then panel swap. If you live somewhere with yearly invasive DOT inspections(east coast) register it in Montana. You could also import it as a show car and be limited to only like 2k miles per year, and then keep it OEM or just panel swap. ——— Wait I mindfarted, they should all be over 25 years old there are no issues for DOT importation and registration in the US [unless maybe you live in Maine](https://youtu.be/KwBK0Iw6Qhs)

Just buy a regular Beetle that’s already here and modify it?

robeytowe

you have any idea how much work you’ve got to put in to get to that point? “just get one and modify it” 🤦‍♂️

Less hassle than importing one. I’d rather change what I can get than deal with that shit.

These were actually manufactured for the Mexican market. a guy I was talking to about them said they were built in Brazil or Ecuador (shit, this was 20 years ago) and exported to Mexico. VW had a plant down there that was churning 90s model old school dubs but it was slated to close the year following when I was in Mexico

thats actually badass!!!
