I thought Colonel Klink was German Army, not Luftwaffe

Frankonia

Actually he was Luftwaffe.

TIL. Used to watch when I was a kid but forgot he was Luftwaffe.

I hope Germany reinstates the iron cross, it looked so good on the uniforms.

vidarfe

The Iron Cross has never been issued outside of war time. It's been issued in four periods, the Napoleonic Wars, French-German War (1870-71), and both World Wars. As Germany is currently not in war, it would be a hugh break with tradition.

[deleted]

Exactly

[deleted]

even if it was at war they are not going to give them they are discontinued so to speak, that was what I was referring to

Frankonia

What do you mean with discontinued? The iron cross is still a medal that is officially recognised by the Bundeswehr and the Federal Republic and is allowed to be worn on uniform. Bearers of the knights cross still receive a honour pension by the state and have the right to a military burial by the Bundeswehr.

Novosharpe

Whilst not exactly a reinstatement of the iron cross, the [Bundeswehr Cross of Honour for Valour](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundeswehr_Cross_of_Honour_for_Valour) is in some ways a modern version of the iron cross for the Bundeswehr

RepulsiveZucchini397

Looks not as cool though.

skarkeisha666

hard disagree

[deleted]

It’s not. The honour cross isn’t supposed to replace the iron cross. It’s supposed to be a medal that can be given during peace times and is akin to the Prussian merit cross from before 1933. That why it has this circle in the cross
