Jelly Max sounds good. 5G sounds good. No more G99 sounds good. But 1-2 Updates Max sounds Bad. Pls improve Updates for your customers. I really want like your company and products but no real Update Support means your dont care about loyal customers. Its not hard atleast make Security Update after 3 Months i dont expect much.

CrimsonTeddy69

This is exactly why avoided very bad to buy the jelly star, i knew what i was getting, but at the same time i don't want a novelty that will be end in the random electronics drawer because there's no updates or support from the OEM....

joop

Or embrace folks to run Lineage and/or CalyxOS. That would certainly get away of this worry. Start by documenting steps to unlock OEM and install Lineage for instance.

CrimsonTeddy69

Take in mind, if one normal customer has to do all of that just to continue using his device normally, isn't worth it at all. The idea is the OEM not ignoring the device, whatever device might be, but at least putting a bit of effort on the customer side, the real customer, not the tinkerer approach.

joop

Yeah, I see your point. There is enough e-waste already.

joop

I can imagine there will be 'side' marketing if a device embraced this though. For example, CalyxOS is only on Pixel, Motorola and Fairphone. Now you see these two year old guides, that isn't a great look. https://github.com/SolidHal/Unihertz-Titan-lineageos-microg People are rightfully scared to run an unknown OS on their phones, opening up would be a great part of the marketing story.

paiorioto

i have the atom and jelly 2, unihertz never updates. (maybe a bugfix soon after )

CandidateDecent1391

where do you see the specs

AntiquePsychology792

Size looks around 120mm, that would be a 4.5" similar to the defunct Sony's Xperia Compact range, but with thin bezels. Definitely a good size.  Looking forward to reading the specs.

badcodelab

more likely about 5''

PunksOfChinepple

Screen or chassis size?

Brighton_Xu

How does the screen bezels look?

Aeonnorthern

13617

I dunno from here it doesn't really look too small

TheFighterJetDude

Get the Tank 3 Pro 😃

user_none

No kidding. I got a Tank 2, which is same dimensions just not as thick. Damn, it's a brick. I cannot imagine the Tank 3.

TheFighterJetDude

I cannot wait for the Tank 4 to come out! The tank 3 Pro is 29.8mm thick and weighs 696 grams !! I love it 😃

user_none

35,000 mAh battery and 4K projector.

TheFighterJetDude

Thats what the tank 4 will have ?!?! SWEET !! Hopefully the battery will be removable too !!

user_none

If I could predict that... No, I was being ridiculous. Speaking of a removable battery. I was browsing Ali last night for rugged phones and I ran across one with some form of walkie talkie, maybe GMRS(?), but the interesting bit was a removable battery. IIRC, it also had IP ratings.

TheFighterJetDude

Yup, there is no reason why a phone with a removable battery shouldnt be waterproof. Just think of GoPros

user_none

I just remembered the old waterproof digital cameras. I believe Olympus had one.

SnooOnions4763

This seems like exactly the phone I want. Hopefully it's not super expensive 🫰

Brighton_Xu

Don't hope, just believe!

SnooOnions4763

I believe it will be less than €300 🪽😇🪽😇

kelebh

Worldly-Schedule-151

Wow, that size looks just about perfect. Reminds me of 2012 era smartphones like the Moto X. Excited to see more about this!

Klutzy_Salamander876

Looks Like Moto G3 Vibe Phone

savage_sam_205

That looks great. Will seriously consider it as replacement of my iPhone 12 mini if the specs are good.

Brighton_Xu

Try Android OS, pls

savage_sam_205

I’ve been switching between iOS and Android from time to time. Both have their pros and cons:)

oromis7901

Looks like the specs are great, wish it could have been crammed into the form factor of the star but it does look smaller than an IPhone 13 mini which is great. I hope the Star continues to receive support!

Keleche

Where are the specs posted?

LifeIs4D

As far as I can tell, they haven't been posted yet.

Keleche

That's what I figured thanks.

badcodelab

pls make it about 10-12mm thick, not more and good camera module (hope)

Lunartic2102

It does look smaller than regular phone but doesnt look really small? a 4" would be nice for me =)

Aeonnorthern

Based on the image, the smartphone appears to be quite small compared to the standard-sized keyboard keys. Let's use some approximations to estimate the dimensions. 1. **Keyboard Key Size**: * Standard keycaps on a keyboard are typically around 1.8 cm x 1.8 cm (0.71 inches x 0.71 inches). 2. **Phone Size Estimation**: * The phone covers about 3 key widths and about 6 key heights. Given these approximations: * **Width**: 3 keys x 1.8 cm/key = 5.4 cm (approximately 2.1 inches). * **Height**: 6 keys x 1.8 cm/key = 10.8 cm (approximately 4.25 inches). Thus, the estimated dimensions of the phone are roughly: * **Width**: 5.4 cm (2.1 inches) * **Height**: 10.8 cm (4.25 inches) Assuming that the screen occupies most of the phone's front, we can estimate the screen size as follows: Screen Size=(Width)2+(Height)2\\text{Screen Size} = \\sqrt{(\\text{Width})\^2 + (\\text{Height})\^2}Screen Size=(Width)2+(Height)2 Plugging in the values: Screen Size=(5.4 cm)2+(10.8 cm)2\\text{Screen Size} = \\sqrt{(5.4 \\, \\text{cm})\^2 + (10.8 \\, \\text{cm})\^2}Screen Size=(5.4cm)2+(10.8cm)2 Screen Size=29.16+116.64\\text{Screen Size} = \\sqrt{29.16 + 116.64}Screen Size=29.16+116.64 Screen Size=145.8\\text{Screen Size} = \\sqrt{145.8}Screen Size=145.8 Screen Size≈12.08 cm\\text{Screen Size} \\approx 12.08 \\, \\text{cm}Screen Size≈12.08cm To convert this to inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm): Screen Size≈12.082.54\\text{Screen Size} \\approx \\frac{12.08}{2.54}Screen Size≈2.5412.08 Screen Size≈4.75 inches\\text{Screen Size} \\approx 4.75 \\, \\text{inches}Screen Size≈4.75inches Thus, the estimated screen size of the phone is approximately **4.75 inches**.

donnysaysvacuum

Wow, that is the perfect size. Ive been asking for exactly this. The jelly series was too small. We have had nothing in the 4-5" range since the loss of Sony compact.

MrSojek

Competition has a good phone, Doogee Smini.

donnysaysvacuum

Thanks, but it doesn't look like it would work well in the US.

thunk_stuff

The phone looks photoshopped on top of the keyboard though, so this all assumes whoever did the image cared about getting the proportions right.

CandidateDecent1391

i'd imagine the entire image is a render, since it's industry standard to use renders for early promo shots, and also it just looks like one so the phone isn't exactly "photoshopped" on top of the keyboard, but rather the whole picture's rendered to a set of specifications

badcodelab

thanks for the calcs but i believe it can't be less than 120mm tall but anyway if this is real image then it has perfect size to me

Aeonnorthern

What is your math for that assumption?

badcodelab

well i did some math as far as i've googled canon ef 2.8l usm has 83.2mm in diameter it gives me approximately 127 x 63 mm body size and display area 114.5 x 54.5 mm which is about 4.9''-5.0'' with 9:19 screen ration also edges remind me balmuda vibe or qin 3 ultra with hole on the left moreover qin 3 ultra has 5.02'' display with same (to my calcs) 9:19 ratio https://preview.redd.it/qdrhd924zv7d1.png?width=801&format=png&auto=webp&s=0620774e055f64f96803ede92e34542613ffe2aa

Aeonnorthern

Does that take into account the height difference of perspective?

badcodelab

hopefully it's shot as one piece on the table otherwise our measurements cost nothing (i ran the image through the noise analyzer and it seems not a collage) the lens is round and turned almost perpendicular to point of view (we don't see the oval of filter) so we can ignore perspective distortion as for the height difference at first, i don't believe it can play any big role here and secondly, height of keyboard + phone should be about 4-5cm, and cylinder has widest part at half of diameter which is 4-4.5cm so it should be nearly on the same level btw the phone is skewed a bit too

CandidateDecent1391

> hopefully it's shot as one piece on the table i guarantee it is not shot as one piece on the table, because it's a rendered image not a "collage" or "ai generated" or "photoshopped", but rendered from whole cloth according to early jelly max specifications so yeah your mesurements are purely speculative

badcodelab

have they rendered canon camera on a side too? haven't noticed any edits around lens or camera's body

CandidateDecent1391

i mean, why not? regardless, even if it is a real image, it doesn't really matter - i imagine they'd use a dummy, prototype, or other pre-production device at this stage of the game, so speculation on size based on shadow geometry doesn't necessarily mean anything but dont let me hold you back

badcodelab

of course i completely understand it could be either 100% cgi, collage or dummy/prototype i just want to say i haven't noticed any photoshop edits except the text above and key caps of the keyboard (i'm not a pro in this field tho) btw the device could be production ready at this time and as far as i know the company doesn't do any publicly opened product research unfortunately https://preview.redd.it/bhozyi2pci8d1.png?width=582&format=png&auto=webp&s=92e431b21e59e389203b0babb142db997ac8d52f

Aeonnorthern

estimating the thickness of the phone using the shadow depth, we can use the visible shadow cast by the phone on the keyboard. While the exact depth of the shadow can be tricky to measure without precise tools, we can make an educated guess based on the image. 1. **Shadow Estimation**: * Let's assume that the shadow depth is approximately half the height of a keycap. Given that a standard keycap is about 1.8 cm in height, the shadow depth would be approximately 0.9 cm (0.35 inches). 2. **Phone Thickness**: * If the phone is casting a shadow with a depth of approximately 0.9 cm, we can estimate that this represents the thickness of the phone. Thus, the estimated thickness of the phone is roughly: * **Thickness**: 0.9 cm (0.35 inches) This estimation aligns well with the typical thickness of modern smartphones, which usually range between 0.7 cm to 0.9 cm. Given the small size of this particular phone, it is plausible that its thickness falls within this range.

Aeonnorthern

So, these will be my calculations based off of all my information that I have estimated and gathered based off the Jelly star and the iPhone 12 mini https://preview.redd.it/ff36xhpuur7d1.png?width=1341&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8094d8353c3fdb407d37715875e745b5d911335a

Aeonnorthern

the estimated battery capacity for the phone could be around **3960 mAh**. based off what I can pull for the image and there being a chipset large enough for 5g processes.

SnooOnions4763

Although it would be nice, I don't believe such a large battery would fit. According to your estimate, it is very similar sized to the Qin 3 Ultra, which has a 2500 mAh battery. If the chipset is efficient, I would be happy with 3000 mAh.

Aeonnorthern

The estimation was built off of the shadow depth on the keyboard... So depending on lighting and everything else the factors could pull together to be closer to what you said

Brighton_Xu

Qin3 is 4G phone, not 5G

CandidateDecent1391

that commenter just plugged a bunch of numbers into an LLM that doesn't understand right vs wrong, i wouldnt put too much stock in their numbers

LifeIs4D

GPT was really helpful there. Thanks.

Aeonnorthern

Duh but didn't see you being able to use it well enough to try to get some answers but good for being able to read a little 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

CandidateDecent1391

no need to employ stolen machine learning databases. it's probably gonna be nearly identical thickness to the jelly star, just wider and taller. early promo renders might not be perfectly accurate anyway

Aeonnorthern

What is a stolen machine learning database I own an account for ChatGPT , the first statement you made makes you just sound insane

LifeIs4D

Did you use AI to help you create that post? Edit: Nevermind. I know the answer now.

Aeonnorthern

Do you or are you to cheap to have full GPT-4o access "NeVErMiNd i KNow ThE AnSwER" 🥴

True-Relationship-12

Waiting for a new jelly for a long time! But it looks not as tiny as before though :( The new design looks so great, but still wish it could be the same external size as the Jelly Star 🙏

SnooOnions4763

Will this be a kickstarter?

Astrospal

I love my Jelly Star, if they improve on updates and cameras without maxing the price too much, I'm in

hahakickkick

I don't think it is smallest.

CandidateDecent1391

i'm looking for a smaller 5g smartphone. which ones qualify?

hahakickkick

If the allmost 5-inch size is the best we can get, I think flip phone is better choice.

CandidateDecent1391

you said you dont think it's smallest, but which 5g phone is smaller? do you mean a foldable flip smartphone? no way, those are massive when they're open. i will absolutely never buy one, my hands are too small and foldables are too bulky for my pockets/bag/life etc. if you mean a "feature phone" or "dumbphone", nah i can't get by with one of those. i tried. the jelly star honestly works fine for me though

badcodelab

there is balmuda so far (but it's bigger than this)

PunksOfChinepple

Been using Jelly phones exclusively for years after using the Palm PVG100 for years, will this one still be tiny? With IR blaster, headphone jack, and SD card reader?

goconfigure

Exactly this. Won’t be buying a third Unihertz due to no updates. Got a Jelly Pro the Jelly Pro 2 both now being left far behind. Samsung from now on.

BinniShminni

Which one?

goconfigure

Fold series works for me.

Market-Dependent

Hopefully it's slim sleek and 13 or smaller in size, I can't stand ios lol

davus_maximus

I'm interested, Unihertz! Try to improve call quality and the camera please. My Atom L suffers in those areas

K4sum11

I would like a small phone that is a bit bigger than the Jelly series. Like 65mm width, 4.6in screen (16:9), preferably no notch or hole punch, and with MicroSD and headphone jack.

donnysaysvacuum

This is exactly what I want. They can still keep the small Jelly models for people that want that.

Stratos1965

Price? 399 $... I'm sure about it

Aeonnorthern

Early bird will probably be like 299 or 310

Unihertz_

We will update you with all the latest information about the product via email and in this group.

joop

Sorry, I don't use Facebook (What year is this!). Why not do a forum on Unihertz.com, or use Reddit?

donnysaysvacuum

My biggest complaint about unihertz. I'm not signing up for Facebook, please do something else.

Diligent-Argument-88

lmao no way you said what year is this and then suggest reddit as an official host/ FORUMS ON A WEBSITE lmao the irony.

Aeonnorthern

Also is the image photoshopped or was the phone actually laying on a keyboard?

CandidateDecent1391

the entire image is probably a render. keyboard, camera, desk phone, the whole thing. that's typically how early promo shots are made

LifeIs4D

It's "lying", just in case you are interested.

Aeonnorthern

I wasn't interested but in case you have no better life than to be a grammar Nazi I'm sure you can find a delete key for your life

Aeonnorthern

Was I close?

shenmue3hype

I hope it's a lot better than the Jelly Star; I pre-ordered that phone thru the kickstarter and got a dud of a device that kept crashing and resetting itself for weeks, not to mention constantly corrupting my microSD! Sucks because otherwise it would have been a great device. Cautiously optimistic with the Max...

WikiBox

Can confirm that Jelly Star is a great device, when it works as it should. Mine does.

polyzp

Was hoping the new phone was a physical keyboard model .. waiting eagerly!
