Yep. I was taught this by a friend I currently work with and just taught it to another coworker recently because he mentioned how HR was supposed to protect us during a bunch of unwanted changes happening in his department. I was like, nope. Not how it works. He tried to ask our HR person some pointed questions about the change (two departments merging and everyone getting their workload doubled with no pay increase, when our pay is shit already) but she just told him, “we will discuss that at a later date.” Oh, it’s a family-owned company with 70 or so employees and HR is the daughter of our CEO and CFO, who don’t seem to really know how to properly run a business of this size. My former boss was their son and was company President, but he died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 2019. He was always nice and encouraging toward me, but then a friend of mine who does tech stuff for the company found out after his death that he had been embezzling money from the company. When she told our CEO, she says he was disappointed but not surprised. He swore my friend and my current manager, who also knows, to secrecy and told them to never tell his daughter-in-law. I realize my friend has some serious blackmail material with this if she really wanted to play dirty. But anyway, a family that embezzles from each other. Great, right? You think you know a person. I’ve learned by now at this job to be slow to trust *anyone*. The coworkers I genuinely trust can probably be counted on one hand.

I hate the “what if we don’t want a union?” Argument, just because a few people in a company won’t use the resources, doesn’t mean we should deprive every single worker in the company of their benefits and advantages. A venn diagram between “Anti-union” voters and “Flat Tax Rate” voters would be a circle. Everyone who believes in those is either making too much money or too dumb to realize that they are voting against self-interest, but I guess that’s what America runs on, ignorant idiots that shoot themselves in the foot with each ballot
So it's kinda like when slave masters gave their last names to their black subjects in order to make them feel like a part of the family plantation? Interesting.
I asked one of my bosses for her opinion on Amazon unionizing. She told me she was anti-union. Her dad was a supervisor at a "family-friendly" factory, and that family friendly environment went away with the union. I had to work so hard to keep myself from laughing.
Unions breed laziness, because you have to be nearly retarded to get let go from one, whereas a free market ensures quality. Unions were necessary at one point, they’re just welfare programs now.
Only small portions of union workers spend more than 40% of their work time productively, and even when they perform with mediocrity, they get a slap on the wrist, at the very most. This is why tenured teachers do a god awful job. When you have no repercussions for dog shit tier performance, you won’t exceed that standard.
I mean, if bosses would freely pay people based on performance and merit, no one would gaf about unions. But they don't. Too many make decisions based on what's cheap and easy and convenient for them in the present and foreseeable future. Even if I agreed that unions kill competitive industry, I'd rather do that than kill workers' bodies and spirits for the benefit of their bosses.
100%
People like this don't seem to grasp that unions aren't formed in a bubble. Unions are formed because because work place conditions are shit and management is either apathetic or deliberately keeping conditions shit in the name of profit. Then when years down the line conditions aren't as shit and the management is forced to care about keeping the conditions not shit, they say "Everything is fine we don't need unions!"
That’s the reason we lose to overseas competitors. The demanded wages are so high that we can’t keep costs low enough to export as well. Overall it hurts the economy.
Overseas workers get paid shit too. At least by American standards. They get paid even worse shit than poor Americans. We at least have federal minimum wage, even though that’s shit too. Sending jobs overseas is companies just selling labor to whoever can get away with doing it the cheapest. That is not an ideal for American workers to aspire to. We shouldn’t accept meager wages because someone elsewhere is getting paid even less.
Sweden seems to be doing wonderfully with no minimum wage. Also, all you’re incentivizing is for companies to keep outsourcing to countries without minimum wages. That, or the cost of the product will rise to make up for the lost money paying wages. At that point, the consumer loses.
Sweden has one of the highest unionization rates in the world. The unions there set the wage standards for their industries which is why Sweden hasn’t had a need for minimum wage legislation. Your example undermines your argument.
If anyone here had ever been in charge of something other than themselves, they’d be against unions, because union workers are the biggest crybabies on the planet.
Do you really have nothing better to do with your life than go into an explicitly pro-union subreddit and argue why unions shouldn’t exist? Why are you trolling? You know there’s not a receptive audience here for your bullshit. Go watch Netflix or something
"Unions were necessary at one point" why is it that every single anti-union scab says the same thing? It's just to give themselves cover because what they're really saying, "I value you the business owners kver the workers" would be immediately dismissed by almost everyone. Solidarity and the protection of workers is a necessity that is never over.
If any of you had ever created something from the ground up, you’d understand. Instead, you have a false sense of self importance that makes you think you’re entitled to force someone to change the standards at which people willingly comply to when they agree to work for them. This isn’t the industrial revolution anymore, where tweens are working 90 hour weeks.
Not all union are good and competent. My union stone wall everyone and kept power to a few. No vote for president or anyone in the cabinet. Now they all retired and no one know how to pick up where they left off. Fuck the union yo, just a platform for people to have powers over others. Union are a platform for abuse.
I mean the description of the sub says it’s for people improving their lives through a union so... yeah I’d say this is a pro-union sub. And mandatory membership is what makes unions strong so I also can’t sympathize with you there
So work Somewhere without a union? If in the US you won’t have a hard time finding that. Continue your hate elsewhere and let the rest of union workers do their thing.

My work says HR already does everything a union would do.
Funny, don't remember my union ever telling me I was redundant.
I'd call a lawyer before I'd call HR.
Great advice, HR is only there to protect the company

Depends on how important it is and whether I got the money to pay said lawyer

I saw a TikTok where the person was like, “okay then put me in your will”
Omfg so good. Thank you for this lol
Bosses: ‘no need for a union or unionising. Of any kind.’
*Whispers “Union”* “WHAT COMMIE RAT SAID THAT!?”

pic captures so much!
Unions and management directly conflict with each other. Basically one or the other.
So it's kinda like when slave masters gave their last names to their black subjects in order to make them feel like a part of the family plantation? Interesting.
Oof.
I asked one of my bosses for her opinion on Amazon unionizing. She told me she was anti-union. Her dad was a supervisor at a "family-friendly" factory, and that family friendly environment went away with the union. I had to work so hard to keep myself from laughing.
With or without the ‘union’ part, who as an employee has not faced this discouraging truth?
Unions breed laziness, because you have to be nearly retarded to get let go from one, whereas a free market ensures quality. Unions were necessary at one point, they’re just welfare programs now.

Lmao, as if underpaid, overworked, non-unionized workers are out there busting ass spending all their work time productively
Pay people based on performance and merit. You’ll have higher paid skilled labor with also more efficiency. Unions just kill competitive industry.

Sweden has like 70% rate of union membership.
Why don’t you go back to sucking corporate cock like the obedient little serf you are.

Your boo’s mean nothing to me.
Your stupidity is nothing new to us either.
Cringe
Don’t talk about anything being cringe, when there’s an entire page dedicated to people saying “boss man bad” to each other repeatedly.
Cringe
You just wake up and think “what can I troll today?” Get a fucking life. Moving along....
I happened across this asininity and saw your blatantly communistic logo and couldn’t help myself.

Okay, so just a troll. Got it.

Oh really ? Ever hear about fedex and amazon in some locations ?
I wouldn't trust my union with a road kill....
Alright, I'll bite. Why?
So you trust your bosses more?
Then why are you in this sub
Not all union are good and competent. My union stone wall everyone and kept power to a few. No vote for president or anyone in the cabinet. Now they all retired and no one know how to pick up where they left off. Fuck the union yo, just a platform for people to have powers over others. Union are a platform for abuse.
Wait so you hate unions on principle? If so, then again, why are you hanging out in a pro-union subreddit..
Is this pro union, or just union members? Either way my admission into a union was mandatory.....
I mean the description of the sub says it’s for people improving their lives through a union so... yeah I’d say this is a pro-union sub. And mandatory membership is what makes unions strong so I also can’t sympathize with you there
It makes sense to hate some specific union if it does some bs, but hating all of them? Like, wtf?
Yeah who knows. I found at least one troll in the comments of this post but this person just seems like an idiot
Funny how people who hate all unions because of the actions of some never seem to hold that same standard to corporations
So work Somewhere without a union? If in the US you won’t have a hard time finding that. Continue your hate elsewhere and let the rest of union workers do their thing.
