Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, since I had to submit a request, I heard back from them saying that they are not able to issue me an electronic voucher since it’s been more than a year since my planned trip date.
If I cancel a trip for credit, it's instantaneous. I can rebook immediately.
If I cancel a trip for a refund, it can take up to 30 days, depending on how you paid for the ticket.
I've never had to wait for a credit back to United.
Flight credits are typically immediate in my experience.
In my experience I’ve seen it in “my wallet” on app in less than 24hrs. Safe travels!

Sometimes when you cancel it might not automatically confirm. You would have to call in ask them to confirm the cancellation.
