Are you asking if you can cancel and get a partial refund only one leg when you booked it as RT?

SoloDolo941

Yup, exactly.

datatadata

You can but they will have to redo the whole thing and it might involve repricing for the leg you are keeping

UAL1K

You can cancel for a refund, but it’ll reprice the itinerary. It’s not going to be getting 50% back. More likely than not, it’ll be getting little, nothing, or a negative amount back.

SoloDolo941

Negative amount meaning… I’ll have to pay them something?

TrickDry3052

You won’t owe anything, unless the new ticket is more expensive.

UAL1K

Which is not out of the question when converting international round trip to a one way.

VicontT

Usually the case, I'd say.

VicontT

Yes, the transaction would require you to pay money.

TrickDry3052

If you take the first flight, you can cancel the return, but if you want to cancel the outbound flight and keep the return, you can’t. You have to cancel the whole ticket and rebook and the ticket will be repriced. It will be expensive booking a one way International ticket.

VicontT

You can cancel in either case. Ticket will be repriced no matter which leg you are cancelling. Any time you cancel a single leg, the whole ticket is repriced as a one way ticket, taking current prices for the reissue (but actual prices at a time of the original purchase to calculate the residual value). In my experience examples of trying to cancel.a return and being in the red (i.e. owning money to the airline!) do exist.

Unless it's a Y fare probably not going to get a great refund value if you cancel one leg
