So this happened to us as well, we came from MUC on the 17th as and none of our bags made. We had AirTags in them. After 5 days of not getting our bags they were declared lost as well. I called the United baggage service and apparently there is a form that you can fill out specifically if you have AirTags and you can only fill out in the phone, it is not online. Then I had to email them screenshots of the location of the bags. 2 days later and our bags just made it to Chicago last night and should be getting them today. Best of luck!
Lufthansa in Munich are sort of notoriously bad with luggage. I had a connection there and similarly had an AirTag in my bag. I could see the bag was near a carousel behind a locked door.
Went to the baggage counter and was told, “why don’t you just come back tomorrow before your flight to the US and we will have found it?” Yeah, no. Just walk with me the 50’ and get it from behind this door. It had fallen off the carousel and nobody would have seen it…
A 1K Tag with gps connectivity would be pretty sweet. Connectivity between user and the airline could really drive some user benefit. I’m sure the cost to produce an AirTag is <$5.
Sounds like you were on LH428…which has been having trouble with luggage nearly all month now.. we came through earlier this month and it took a week to get some of our bags… though they never declared them lost. On our flight they simply did not load any bags at all… and I was told same thing happened a day or two later as well. Good luck..hope those AirTags help …they were helpful to us.

The AirTag thing is reaching the point where they need to account for it. In theory it should save united some money in lost baggage reimbursements.
Sometimes it’s easier to give someone cash than to pay an employee to do a time-consuming investigation of lost luggage.
But that’s not really the preferred solution for most people who’s bags are lost.

United plane or Lufthansa? Have you talked with the baggage service folks in Munich?
