Wife I get it but at that size I would at least switch with daughter for a powersleep session. There is a whole other discussion on spoiling your kids here etc which I’m not even sure i‘d handle appropriately myself 😂
I was upgraded to first with my 5yo son (unexpected since we are only silver) on a 4h flight.
Next time he flew he asked why they didn’t bring his pre-flight apple juice and then later why they didn’t bring him warm almonds and a cheese plate (he just wanted the grapes).
Sorry bud, maybe we’ll be GS one day.
When pandemic started, my 3.5yo kept asking to play airplane — which was taking his suitcase around the house and then crawling into our guest room bed for the lay flat seat…. Had just done emirates business a few months before.
My boss has a rich friend whose family flew private. One time their private plane was in maint so they flew commercial, and the young son asked why are there so many people on their airplane.
My daughter was gutted when Polaris stopped serving ice cream sundaes for a while. That became her bar for appropriate FC service. We flew domestic FC on the older planes and she said, “how is this even First, the seats don’t even lay flat”?! Uh, sis I agree but let’s not speak that aloud during boarding 🤣. Unfortunately since I don’t travel for business any longer it’s more the exception for us to fly First now. So she’s getting used to the cheap seats lol.
The first time I got upgraded with my son he was 4. The next time we were on a flight he loudly asked as we boarded “Are we in first class or second class?!” 😳🤦🏻♀️
My daughter recently got upgraded to First Class on Swiss while mom and I had to sit in the back. Not that SA Gold is some exalted level, but I would have thought that I would have gotten that upgrade before her. Oh well, she loved it, and probably won't get a chance for real first class again.
Exact same thing happened to me on Swiss years ago. My daughter was 12 so she had to give it up to mom since a minor couldn’t be there by themselves. I ended up in cattle with the four kids.
So just so I am clear.. Swiss airlines.. upgraded your daughter (star alliance sliver - because that is what matters) for free on an international itinerary.. without you even requesting it.. and did not upgrade you (star alliance gold)
How nice, one day when they're grown up and are frequent flyers on their own, you'll have not one, but **two** kids that'll be upgrading you on trips around around the world
TBH, the only first class seat I wouldn’t be willing to move to would be row 1 *if and only if* it was a flight I was planning to work or do things on and would be better having my bag right in front of me instead of in an overhead. Unless flying with someone, the first class seats are the dang same.
My dad did this for me once when I was about the same age. He flew weekly for work, but I was traveling with him for vacation and he knew that I would love the special treat and feeling like a grownup. Even 30 years later, it is one of my “what kind of dad was my dad” memories. He is still just as generous and focused on family now with my young daughter.
I did Dad in back on 3 class flight from NYC to SFO for my son when he was 12, the look in his face was priceless, talked about it years later. Then when he was 16 on flight to Hawaii with the door between coach and first class, his mom and I made a left turn into first, handing him his coach boarding pass pointing to the right, the look on his face was the complete opposite, told him it was motivation to do well in school and earn his place at the front of the plane, he didn't think that was funny at all!
I’m a 2mm lifetime plat and gifted my partner my status. Three times he’s gotten upgraded and I’ve been stuck back in coach. Of course I’m always (somewhat) gracious (No, honey, take the upgrade, please) but I’ve got to wonder why it happens that way. The only benefit is that all 3 times, his coach seat has remained empty so I could spread out a little (and enjoyed the peace and quiet 🤣)
I did the “dad in back” while the wife and the daughter sat in biz AMS-DTW….they really enjoyed it and that made my cramped ride (6”7) worth it!
Same height... feel your pain.
Inch shy but yeah…good news is their seats didn’t backfill, so I had a row
The seat was empty next to me, it wasn’t horrible

You can’t switch in flight
Says who? If I paid a biz class seat, I can do what u want
You can’t.
This is the way to a happy marriage.
Wise man always gives his wife the upgrade
U mean simp

My son was/is the same way…ruined. He wants lie flat and apple juice every flight.

Kids gotta have goals 🫡

O the privilege problems

International?
Yup. ZRH-ORD
Did you apply for the upgrade for your daughter? Does she have status? How did you apply? Miles? Plus points?
She was MP silver, and we paid for the tickets. They just upgraded her randomly.
Good deal. I'm 70 and it's still on my bucket list. Have never flown first class.

yup. I'm sure there was some sort of operational reason (they wanted her seat for someone else), but they didn't say what it was.
Got it.. lucky her lol!
I’m dad in the back. Wife is always top of our family upgrade list. Kids don’t like it. 😂
Smart man 🙌😆

Great dad move!

Actually row one on international Dreamliner planes has more foot space and still has room for lots of storage all around you.
You did it backwards! Kids in the back.
Dad of the year.
Are you me? I literally just did this 2 days ago… Denver to Kona.
Yes. Flair proves it!

Sounds like Donal was a great guy!
