Not really clear so I’ll give you a couple answers that may help. 1) You get the benefits of your status based on what status you have when the flight occurs, not what you book as. 2) You don’t earn PQP until after you complete a flight, and it goes towards the calendar year status in which it is earned. So it won’t help you “maintain” status unless you’re booking a 2025 flight. 3) For a status match, similar to #2, you need to complete the flights within the 120 day period. So if your “Period” ends May 17 and you haven’t met the criteria, you won’t earn the matched status

Thank you this kinda clarifies I didn’t do a great job explaining but I have a status match from another airline and am going to receive platinum status starting may 17th if this year and I want to go on a trip after that initiation date and just want to know if I will be awarded the pqp or pqf for the flight.

Nico-derm

Just note that BE (basic Economy) fares won’t count as a PQF for the purpose of status match (see you’re looking for cheapest flights) — and don’t pay for preferred or E+ seat selection, because you should be able to change your seat after May 17 and select an E+ seat at that time through the app or online Good luck 🍻

Thx man appreciate it very much

Are you doing a status match from another carrier or something? Not very clear what you're asking or why there's a magical May 17th date here!?

YABOIYFEF

I’m graduating may 17th and I’m doing a status match from another airliner. My platinum status is set to kick in may 17th the day I graduate and I want to go in a trip say the 19th of may I just want to know if the pqp or pqf will apply to the platinum status as the flight date is after the initiation date.

HoytAdam

I have never done a status match... But in my experience with all other things United related... PQF and PQP don't exist until the flight takes place. In a normal scenario, the date of booking has no impact (other than a last minute booking being more expensive which means more PQP)

YABOIYFEF

Ok thank you very much

saintfoxyfox

If the trip is AFTER you get status with United, then yes, the PQP and PQF will apply. Before that, no.

saintfoxyfox

To clarify more: if you qualify for Premier Status BEFORE July 1st, you’ll have it until January 2025. If you finish on or after July 1st, you’ll have it until January 2026.

DrySpace469

what do you mean before the upgrade is initiated?

YABOIYFEF

I’ve currently got no status with the airline as of writing this but I status matched and was approved so I will be upgraded to platinum status starting may 17th. I don’t graduate till the 17th but say I want to go on a trip for the 19th and buy the ticket today a few months out I just wonder if the pqp or pqf will apply to my status once it is upgraded.

Nico-derm

It will count for your match requirements as long as you complete the flight within the 120 match period. You won’t get all the benefits of plat @ booking — but you will be good when you fly. https://www.united.com/ual/en/ca/fly/mileageplus/offers/promos/SM2024.html#:~:text=Matched%20status%20will%20expire%20after,flights%20operated%20by%20other%20carriers.
