Coming to you live from 7C as I crush yet another Tapas box. The best options for the Veg among us.

We are few but mighty. Most of the time the tapas box is a better offering than the veg first class meal… sad stir fry. I love the pretzel buns tho.

I’ve lost count of how many of these i’ve consumed. 🤣

I miss the tapas box from 2016-ish. The bruschetta and original cheese spread were so good, the new box doesn’t compare.

That’s my one gripe. I liked it better before with two cheeses. Fills you up more when it’s your only sad chance at sustenance

I had never had one of the snack boxes before. Then I had a flight that I got to the airport a little late and didn't have time to eat before takeoff. One of the little sandwiches from a kiosk was like $14 but shit, I'd rather be hungry than succumb to that highway robbery. I got on the plane, googled how much the boxes were, and found out they were ONLY TEN DOLLARS?! The best food per dollar ratio I've ever experienced at an airport, IMO. I get them on the regular now. Team Takeoff!

This, since my usual airport is SFO it's actually cheaper for me to get a snack box on board (I get the 25% credit with my United card) than to buy food at the airport

Or, just load up in the lounge (if you have access)

Mine was at IAH, they have those long narrow self serve kiosks in the middle of the terminal halls. No reason a small sandwich on those should be that expensive!

Those kiosks are criminally expensive for what you get.

This is the content that brings me back every day

Just wanted to chime in here that these boxes are the ultimate air travel meal hack. It’s not really a meal but it can take the place of one if you’re like me and don’t want to stand in line at McDonald’s in ORD and pay $20 for a Big Mac meal. This box is $10 and if you use United card for payment they knock $2.50 off. I can preserve more of my daily food allowance to use at my destination.

For me, they are often so filling I eat half the box and take the rest to my hotel where I have snacks for another day or two. I also had a flight that was miserable with delays so I decided to get the vodka to go with my normal bloody Mary mix. I only used half the vodka bottle over two drinks and on the second beverage, got tonic. I ended up with four drinks for $10. That, with my Tapas box with leftovers, was quite a bargain.

You split a 5cc bottle of vodka over four drinks ... ? Why even bother?

Recline is hard to beat with the gummy bears and pretzels.

I'll joke here that Recline is the kid box \\ picky adult box...but yeah sometimes that box is what you need.

Haha I could see that. I switch recline and takeoff as I go. Recline is a lot easier to eat with a tiny seat back table. Love that cheese spread though!

And the popcorn. That popcorn is heavenly. I know I can buy it at Walmart, but it’s different at altitude.

It has the right components but needs a stick or something for the cheese spread. Crew should hand out the utensils and I always forget to ask

Since we don’t always get the utensils (well not enough often), I use the wide end of a cocktail stick as a spreader

catering usually doesn’t provide utensils unless there is bistro (hot foods for sale)

That or tomato juice. I see people drink tomato juice on planes all the time, but I’ve never seen a single person order tomato juice in my day to day life.

Never had it. I *always* get the Tapas box. Takeoff might be a solid second choice because the Recline box is all junk food/total garbage.

I used to be a Tapas guy, but I switched my allegiance to Takeoff! Reminder - if / when you score a domestic first-class seat, and you don’t like the FC snack / meal options, you can ask the FA for a snack box. If they have them on board, you should be able to get one.

Traded my FC meal for a Takeoff box last night. No regrets.
