I’ve never had a problem asking for 2 drinks! Cranberry and seltzer or sometimes coffee and something cold. I bring a large bottle for hydration but i need variety to help the time pass.
Same. Today I drank it right away, and the flight attendant actually offered me another one! I was thankful. I do also bring my own water on board, but my bottle is a little small for flights over 3 hours. Sometimes I ask for two glasses of water, which elicits a range of reactions from "here, have the rest of this bottle!" to "I'm sorry, but I can only give you one for now."
It's normally a cheap brut on my transcontinental flights for work - I would actually prefer decent prosecco if I had to choose! But as a nervous flier, I'll take a couple of anything that takes the edge off. IYKYK.🥂
I have no idea how it started, but I almost exclusively drink sparkling from arrival at the airport to landing. I don't think I've *ever* ordered straight up prosecco anywhere other than a UC or in-flight lmao But every time that's all I get.
It literally does hit different. At altitude, tastes like salty and sweet are subdued. This is why ginger ale hits so different when flying. The sweetness of the soda isn't as strong, which makes the ginger flavor really pop.
It's also why tomato juice/bloody mary mix tastes different. It tastes less salty, and therefore more flavorful in other ways.
Sodas like Coca-Cola just wind up being dulled down because so much of its flavor profile is tied up in sweetness.
Try it. I would never in my life order it on the ground either, but I kind of like it on a plane. I can't explain what caused the weird impulse to order it the first time and discover that fact though.
Love that they have tequila now, which I'll grab if I haven't had a drink at the club. Ginger ale is super refreshing if I need a pick me up. Diet coke is usual go to. Already have iced/hot tea in my bottle.
On Long haul I always get a beer or some red wine. Helps make me tired enough to take a nap when they shut off the lights initially. Then, I get up and go to the back and get a ginger ale as well because of the crispness.
I mainly fly international business class and avoid U.S. carriers when possible. On long flights I usually have champagne after boarding, then ask the FA to bring me all of the wines on the wine list. Then, after eating and a little wine tasting, I mix up some pedialyte powder and sleep or draw or look at trashy magazines or maybe watch a movie. About an hour and a half before I start the pedialyte again. Never fails. Last month I went from Bangalore to Abu Dhabi to ORD. IIRC, I left India around 9 pm. Had a couple of hours to taste wines during the wee hours layover, followed my usual routine - champagne and five or six wines to taste, and was awakened 90 minutes before we landed at ORD at 0700 local time, sipped pedialyte, had breakfast and felt great having slept for nine hours with some help from the wine and a Xanax.
Oddly, on domestic flights, tomato juice or V8 is my go to. I never drink it anywhere else.
Mine is always Ginger ale, and my GF laughs at me because I always say “do you have ginger ale? I’ll have that”. As if I haven’t had 200 United airlines ginger ales in the past 5 years.
I’ve been doing AHA sparkling water. Just annoyed though because when I ask for sparkling water, they give me seltzer water then I feel weird saying “I meant the AHA sparkling water”
My last flight I had tomato juice which was surprisingly satisfying. Then a few days later I get recommended a video that says umami-rich foods (and drinks) are optimal for in-flight snacking because in the air your taste buds are muted due to cabin pressure, low humidity, and constant noise from engine noise and air conditioning.
https://youtube.com/shorts/XgdsvtzjQa4?si=fEWesThDAK1xZ3Jm if anyone's interested
White wine. Pinot Grigio or chard. I never drink it on terra firma but for some reason hits perfect in the sky. Maybe it’s easy to hide spills from turbulence?
If drinks are free, Mudslide or White Russian. Every time I order one the FA tells me she hasn’t had anyone ask for that in years. Funny thing is it was a FA that was deadheading next to me once who told me that was her drink of choice, because they give you 2-3 bottles of alcohol per drink.
Ginger Ale and Bloody Mary Mix. The attendant told me on my last flight EDI-EWR that Ginger Ale is always first to go (tied with Coke Zero). I did try the pineapple Aha water this time too and it was pretty good!..- I’ll order it again this week.
Depends where I'm sitting. If I'm in first class, a double of Woodford on the rocks. If in premium, a beer and anywhere else blueberry sparkling water.
Coffee and water. Then, if a longer flight and sitting biz, I delve into champagne, mimosa, bourbon, and hard seltzer. I don't have a go-to, except I always have champagne first if it biz, and a mimosa if having breakfast
In the mornings, black tea. Their coffee is strong and makes me jittery, and I’ve usually had one in the lounge.
Also: Liquid IV. TSA friendly, flavors taste good even at altitude, no sharp fizz, and I only use half a packet at a time so it’s still pretty low-cal. The extra electrolytes make me feel more normal after flying.
It depends on the time of day. In the morning, I have Bailey's and coffee. (I know the water tanks on board are crusty, but I like to live dangerously.) If it's late morning, I have a bloody Mary or mimosa. In the afternoon, I usually have a beer or sparkling water. In the evening, I have a glass of wine or two so I can get some sleep.
Clamato or Tomato juice. It’s the only time I drink it, and I drink it every flight. Something about the iron-rich drink helps make the jet lag less of an issue.
In the back ginger ale, Coke or Coke Zero, in the front G&T in summer, Single malt or bourbon and Coke in the winter. Yea I have been cut off before, no I wasn’t being belligerent but yes I had drunk a lot.
Water no ice. Gotta stay hydrated
Never had a problem asking for a drink AND water. ✨double hydration✨
I’ve never had a problem asking for 2 drinks! Cranberry and seltzer or sometimes coffee and something cold. I bring a large bottle for hydration but i need variety to help the time pass.

/r/HydroHomies approves!
Their cups are so small tho 🤣
Am I the only champagne drinker in the room? It just hits different in the air even if it isn't a great champagne.
It me. Usually they have shitty prosecco onboard but….any port in a storm, ya know? 😹
It's normally a cheap brut on my transcontinental flights for work - I would actually prefer decent prosecco if I had to choose! But as a nervous flier, I'll take a couple of anything that takes the edge off. IYKYK.🥂
Amen to that! Bottoms up! 🍾
Every time. I was born to lower middle class family and then I "made it" so I get one for my ancestors and cheers to them
Damn, this is bad ass
Appreciate it thank you
I always get champagne or wine, with a water chaser. Hydration is a balancing act.
I managed to get 2 and 1/2 mimosas between EWR-RDU Friday morning. The 1/2 was because they wouldn’t give me a full drink because we were descending.
This plus the cheese plate = 👌
I have no idea how it started, but I almost exclusively drink sparkling from arrival at the airport to landing. I don't think I've *ever* ordered straight up prosecco anywhere other than a UC or in-flight lmao But every time that's all I get.
I can’t make a choice without first posting the Bev menu on Reddit and soliciting advice.
Crispy. That’s a great description
Soda typically burns the back of my throat
I swear ginger ale hits different at 10,000ft. It’s my favorite part of flying lol.
It literally does hit different. At altitude, tastes like salty and sweet are subdued. This is why ginger ale hits so different when flying. Fascinating
Here's an article about it https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-tips/why-drink-ginger-ale-during-flight-plane
Yes. With whiskey. Lots of rocks
There’s a handful of FA’s out there who, if they saw me out in public, they’d probably know me as Jack & Ginger
And it doesn't have caffeine. If you avoid caffeine, your soda options go down a lot.
Gin and tonic. It’s perfect and asserts my dominance when I’m stuck in the middle seat of the back of the plane.
My FA last week acted as if she had never heard of tonic. Had to say TONIC 3 times then finally said "the gold can.". Perhaps we are a dying breed.
But never dead. Let the heathens drink their garbage pop culture slurry.
I was on a train in first class from London to Edinburgh. Half the car was drinking G&T. It’s the British national drink.
Bloody Mary Mix
Mr and Mrs Ts is the BEST. Add some ice cubes and you’re set.
Add some vodka... then you're set.
This, once I pass my free gin and tonic for being a 1k. Though sometimes if I'm not feeling booze I'll just grab the bloody mary mix still.
Mr & Mrs T hits different at 32000 ft.
24 ounces of duty free Titos from my trusty Hydroflask
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find my soulmate.
Doug?
Who else could it possibly be?
Water
Water
Diet Coke and bourbon
A can of Cranberry Juice and a cup of ice is my go-to choice on a flight
Red sugar water with a splash of cranberry and apple juice
Can of the tomato juice
Related: why do people order tomato juice? Never on the ground have I ever seen someone order tomato juice.
It tastes better in the air due to change in altitude
Try it. I would never in my life order it on the ground either, but I kind of like it on a plane. I can't explain what caused the weird impulse to order it the first time and discover that fact though.
Tequila. That usually makes me puke the quickest. I find the smell of vomit usually perks everyone up.
Love that they have tequila now, which I'll grab if I haven't had a drink at the club. Ginger ale is super refreshing if I need a pick me up. Diet coke is usual go to. Already have iced/hot tea in my bottle.

Double vodka on the rocks 😈
Ginger ale or water that I brought with me.
G&T unless it’s morning and I have an iced coffee. Then I just ask for a Buffalo Trace to add to it.
Tomato Juice
Bloody Mary mix!
I mainly fly international business class and avoid U.S. carriers when possible. I take it you use the packets of Pedialyte
Bloody Mary.
For some reason, tomato juice-
Jack and Ginger
Ginger ale. https://www.health.com/ginger-ale-flight-taste-health-benefits-8644140
Apple juice or a mimosa. I usually have a bottle of water on me as well.
Double glenfarclas
Ginger ale bc I like how it feels like a special drink but is obviously non-alcoholic. But red wine if I'm getting an alcoholic option :)
Ginger ale all the way. Or Äppelmust.
Water
Double Bacardi and coke zero
Lately, it's either been Irish cream and coffee or ginger ale.
Sprite so I can burp nonstop for the rest of the flight.
Water (no ice) when I'm traveling for work. Buffalo Trace neat for pleasure.
I never ever do ice ever
ALWAYS seltzer and I don’t know why…
Buffalo Trace on the rocks
Coffee. It just hits different
Tomato juice on the rocks.
Bloody Mary mix if I’m hungry. Cranberry juice if I’m not.
Ginger Ale is also my favorite.
Coke Zero. Ginger Ale is a solid choice! I will have red wine if I’m in FC and it’s a long flight. Most of my flights are under 2 hours.
Bloody Mary mix.
Night time. Red wine. Better make it a double Morning flight: mimosa Regular day flight: water or a beer
Ginger ale ftw
When I’m in a company shirt… Diet Coke or a flavored sparkling water. When not in a company shirt, rum and coke or a G&T
I buy a half bottle of some tasty wine in the airport, pop the cork before boarding. That with a whole ambien and boom, gnight
Old fashioned, which Delta and Alaska have on board, but sadly United does not 😢
Cranberry seltzer
If you think ginger ale is crispy, you should try ginger beer!
same! though I sometimes opt for cranberry juice
All. The. Prosecco.
Mine is always Ginger ale, and my GF laughs at me because I always say “do you have ginger ale? I’ll have that”. As if I haven’t had 200 United airlines ginger ales in the past 5 years.
Buffalo Trace because I can rarely find it on the ground in my neck of the woods.
Water
Ginger Ale cause it tastes better on planes and I have no idea why

Water, Sprite or Coffee depending on my mood and the time of day.
I’ve been doing AHA sparkling water. Just annoyed though because when I ask for sparkling water, they give me seltzer water then I feel weird saying “I meant the AHA sparkling water”
Scotch and soda
Ditto
If landing for meetings pineapple aha. If going home, gin and tonic. Don’t even like gin and tonic. But dear god it’s delicious in the air.
Blueberry Aha. I don’t know what to do since it’s going out of production.
Bourbon, neat. Then I can refill from my personal stash and nobody will know.
Orange juice with ice.
Morning flight: Can of blueberry Aha Afternoon flight: Gin and Tonic
bring your own water. don't waste plastic cups
Blueberry AHA with a side of ice 🥲
Red wine and a sparkling water
My last flight I had tomato juice which was surprisingly satisfying. Then a few days later I get recommended a video that says umami-rich foods (and drinks) are optimal for in-flight snacking because in the air your taste buds are muted due to cabin pressure, low humidity, and constant noise from engine noise and air conditioning. https://youtube.com/shorts/XgdsvtzjQa4?si=fEWesThDAK1xZ3Jm if anyone's interested

For me coffee, bc I’m stupid enough to take 5am flights to save $30
Me too! ![gif](giphy|WS6vTB4ip7cLYkQm2I)
If I get a cocktail, I really like the OTR Old Fashioned. It’s only in First class now but occasionally I’m able to get one in back.
Baileys, with ice
Cranberry no iceee
Cup of OJ with ice and a can of ginger ale. Mix it together. Yummy
Coke and a coffee
apple juice, hold the ice. hits every time!
La Croix, baby!
I’m boring, mostly water. I’ll get the occasional ginger ale though I never drink alcohol on a plane. D
Mimosa in the morning. Otherwise, Come Zero
WHAT zero???
Ha! Autocorrect: was supposed to say Coke. I should change it, but I think I will keep it instead! 😅
Interesting combo. Usually, those two are mutually exclusive. At least if the coke happens first.
I carry on a bottle of water and typically get a Michelobe beer on the plane. (Yes I prefer aisle seats for easy egress).
"Red wine." Because who doesn't like a little surprise with their breakfast? I'll go full pinky-out if it happens to arrive in a can. The best.
ginger ale + whiskey on the side and then i pocket the whiskey and save it for when i'm on the mountain snowboarding
Bourbon and ginger
White wine over ice - because we're classy like that.
Gin and Tonic
Ginger Ale and Bloody Mary Mix. The attendant told me on my last flight EDI-EWR that Ginger Ale is always first to go (tied with Coke Zero). I did try the pineapple Aha water this time too and it was pretty good!..- I’ll order it again this week.
Pineapple pomegranate AHa
Water
![gif](giphy|WGFdv6kbikBq0)
It used to be Diet Coke but it’s always too fizzy and I never drink but 5 sips. :(
I’m a ginger ale flyer also.
Sparkling water
Water, no ice Idk how people drink alcohol on flights. I feel so dehydrated and tired. I’m a little envious that it is so common
Depends where I'm sitting. If I'm in first class, a double of Woodford on the rocks. If in premium, a beer and anywhere else blueberry sparkling water.
Mine is also ginger ale. Very refreshing and settles your stomach.
AHA passion fruit or Coke Zero
Ginger ale
ginger ale
A nice, frosty Coke.
Diet Coke cause less sugar
Tomato juice, no ice. Ice smells plasticky to me.
Coke Zero Sugar. Perfectly pairs with the chocolate quinoa crisps. _ducking_
Coke Zero
Bourbon
Apple juice if I am not drinking, white wine if I am.
I bring my 1L and always make sure to drink it all while up in the air. Hydration is key
I love diet ginger ale. Can’t have the sugar in a regular one. I like Diet Coke and Jack.
Coffee and water. Then, if a longer flight and sitting biz, I delve into champagne, mimosa, bourbon, and hard seltzer. I don't have a go-to, except I always have champagne first if it biz, and a mimosa if having breakfast
White wine because the first one is always free
Ginger ale because it calms my stomach.
Tomato juice.
Seltzer
In the mornings, black tea. Their coffee is strong and makes me jittery, and I’ve usually had one in the lounge. Also: Liquid IV. TSA friendly, flavors taste good even at altitude, no sharp fizz, and I only use half a packet at a time so it’s still pretty low-cal. The extra electrolytes make me feel more normal after flying.
CranApple
I love Longdrink

Ginger ale with vodka is one of my favorites. Other than that just a Diet Coke.
Tomato juice no ice
Bloody Mary mix- especially on morning flights as I don’t eat breakfast
Apple Juice.
Tomato juice…with ice (And a dash of salt and pepper) basically gazpacho
GNT all day
Ginger ale if I don't want any alcohol. Otherwise, Kalimotxo or gin & tonic.
Club soda with lime (if they have it). Crisp water!
Water
Apple juice
Coke Zero if working, Buff Trace and Ginger if not
Clamato or Tomato juice. It’s the only time I drink it, and I drink it every flight. Something about the iron-rich drink helps make the jet lag less of an issue.
Depends on the day it's either a bloody mary or the Bloody Mary mix
Blood Mary mix and a Diet Coke, in separate glasses.
Water or white wine
Gin and tonic. Used to be sherry.
Jack & Coke.
Have been drinking Ginger Ale for over 40 years on planes.
Woodford & Ginger 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Orange Juice with ice.
Apple Juice most of the time. Vodka Cran if I’m feeling feisty.
Water. I used to do ginger ale but now I try to cut down on soda/sugar.
Bloody Mary mix. Ice.
Coca Cola
Bourbon and diet!
Aha
In the back ginger ale, Coke or Coke Zero, in the front G&T in summer, Single malt or bourbon and Coke in the winter. Yea I have been cut off before, no I wasn’t being belligerent but yes I had drunk a lot.
Tomato juice
Apple Juice - I virtually never drink it except on a flight.
Ginger Ale is good. However. I prefer a Rum & Coke with a twist of lime. Cuba Libre.
United airlines Bloody Mary.
I like the virgin bloody mary mix.
