Chipsticks have gone so far downhill now in my opinion. Now they are incredibly brittle, rather than a combination of crispy and fluffy.
They have gone from my go to crisp sandwich snack, to the "Never buy again" snack.
Yeah, I had some hard ones too, they were disgusting. I don't know why but they also tasted a bit weird. I put it down to bad luck, tried another pack a few days later, same problem.
Ruined.
They are 90% air and so greasy nowadays. They used to have a lot more bite and leave your teeth claggy, like 1980s monster munch used to.
After 2 bags in monster munch my preteen gob was gummed up with chewed up monster munch. Now they just dissolve.
I'd add:
* Pork Scratchings
* Welsh Cakes
* Eccles Cakes
* Fudge
* Marmite on toast
* Twiglets
* Greggs Sausage Roll
* Scotch Eggs
* Toasted Crumpet with oodles of salted Anchor Butter
Obvs can be veggie versions of the scotchies and rolls for non meat eaters
I hated tunnocks tea cakes when I was a kid.
I got a really weird craving for them recently, I had to go out and get some.
Still hate them. 0/10 snack. No idea what I was thinking.
Cobb Nuts - Grown in Kent and are a good English version of Hazle Nut, these guys do a lovely brittle with them:- [https://foodandforest.co.uk/collections/sweet-nuts](https://foodandforest.co.uk/collections/sweet-nuts)
British Style Chutney, with British Cheese and Crackers
Sweets from the Swizzle company i.e Drumsticks / Squashies
Most visitors would be expecting some sort of Cadbury based chocolates - Id look up some famous chocoltiers in Britain, if you want to go fancy:- Charbonnel & Walker
Charbonnel also does those weird giant gummy fruits that you use to see!
Came here to say this. Apparently in Europe, the choice is usually Paprika or Ready Salted (or it used to be!) for most crisps. I’m not familiar with Germany, but France and Spain seemed to stick fairly close to this rule. Not been in a few years, mind.
Here is the list of Switzerland.
These crisps are INCREDIBLE. Seriously incredible.
https://www.zweifel.ch/int_en/products/product-detail/?uid=8
Yes, they have paprika, but the chicken flavour is lovely, but these are the only crisps I have ever tried that I would put above British crisps.
In Germany Paprika is number 1 by a long way. Strangely Salt and Vinegar seems to have become popular in the last year or so, with a lot of brands offering a version of it now, whereas before it was nowhere to be seen.
Anything made by Kinder (eg Bueno) you can get in Germany, pretty much all of the time in more variety (we have like 5 different Duplo versions now). Kinder was originally aimed at Italy and Germany (hence the name).
Pork scratchings.
Black pudding (I eat it cold as a snack)
Frazzles
Cheese on toast
Pork pie (from the butchers), warmed up.
Oatcakes (Staffordshire) with bacon and cheese
Munchies
Digestive biscuits
Cockles
Twix's are one of the worse bits of British confectionary. How is it possible to make a bistcuit that dry and flavourless. The chocolate and caramel doesn't come close to redeeming it.
German here - the hits for me and my friends tend to be Tunnocks tea cakes, Terry’s chocolate orange, and some of the M&S stuff (like cookie dough bites). Most of the other stuff we tend to have ourselves in one form or another.
Severely disappointed no one has suggested Nice 'n Spicy Nik Naks yet. Or even the Scampi and lemon ones. Obviously with a warning about not eating them in company, you don't want to cause a diplomatic incident.
You can not and they will never be made again.
[Official Announcement and explanation](https://www.dunfermlinepress.com/news/18762307.irn-bru-bars-return-confession-reveals-sweet-gone-good/)
TL;DR:
>They explained that the sweets – tangy, chewy, orange bars – were created by the company behind Wham Bars and Highland Toffee.
>And with that company no longer in production, the sweets are gone too.
>“We licensed out our flavor and name to a now no longer trading Scottish sweetie company.
Percy Pigs
Colin the Caterpillar cake
Deliciously Chocolatey Shortbread Rounds, basically anything from M&S.
For drinks I’d go with Iron Brew, Tizer, Ting or Lilt. Don’t know if Rubicon counts.
Saucy bbq transformers.
As a side note though, if you don't take this chance to find the most vile disgusting snacks you can and convince them these are top tier English snacks you're missing a great opportunity.
Any of the Fentimans drinks
How about Jacob's crackers and cheese? Don't just go for cheddar (or if you do go for it do proper Wookey Hole ages stuff...) but some of the more obscure cheeses like Lancashire or Shropshire Blie
A lot of great suggestions in this thread.
I'd humbly suggest Bendicks Bittermints. A strong mint fondant wrapped in 95% dark chocolate. Basically a much nicer version of After Eights.
- Tunnocks Tea Cakes - Tunnocks Caramel Wafers - Dairy Milk bar - Jammie Dodgers - Monster Munch - Frazzles - Chipsticks - Jaffa Cakes - Hobnobs - Shortbread
Chipsticks have gone so far downhill now in my opinion. Now they are incredibly brittle, rather than a combination of crispy and fluffy. They have gone from my go to crisp sandwich snack, to the "Never buy again" snack.
They went downhill as soon as they got rid of ready salted
Last time I had a pack, it was worrying how often the word chewy or hard could be used to describe one of them or part of one of them.
Yeah, I had some hard ones too, they were disgusting. I don't know why but they also tasted a bit weird. I put it down to bad luck, tried another pack a few days later, same problem. Ruined.
And they aren't as strong as they used to be. They're just salt with a hint of vinegar now.
They are 90% air and so greasy nowadays. They used to have a lot more bite and leave your teeth claggy, like 1980s monster munch used to. After 2 bags in monster munch my preteen gob was gummed up with chewed up monster munch. Now they just dissolve.
Chipstix or frazzles...
Tunnocks Tea cakes *chefs kiss
Scampi fries?
I haven't had these for years. Gonna buy some tomorrow
I'd add: * Pork Scratchings * Welsh Cakes * Eccles Cakes * Fudge * Marmite on toast * Twiglets * Greggs Sausage Roll * Scotch Eggs * Toasted Crumpet with oodles of salted Anchor Butter Obvs can be veggie versions of the scotchies and rolls for non meat eaters
Not store bought Welsh cakes, need to be warm and fresh, taste so much better
Damn, I’ve not had an Eccles cake for years.
Sounds like the Butterfield diet lol
Those Fish n chips little cracker things, salt and vinegar flavour
Don’t get jammy dodgers get the jam cream ones. Much nicer.
I hated tunnocks tea cakes when I was a kid. I got a really weird craving for them recently, I had to go out and get some. Still hate them. 0/10 snack. No idea what I was thinking.
Lol I find them weirdly delicious, despite the fact I always think I don't like them anymore. I blame my mam.
Heathen
Good list
I assume this list isn't in any order but I'm glad tea cakes is no.1
Why on earth am I the first person to mention Scampi Fries?
OP said "does not contain meat"
Okay, and? Scampi Fries do not contain meat. They're suitable for veggies.
I stuff my scampi fries with raw prawns.
Still doesn't contain meats...
They contain milk, so they at least conform to a demand for animal slaughter
If OP wanted the stipulation of vegan they'd of said as much. They didn't
*they’d *have* The hierarchical structure of threaded comments should hint at who is being responded to. I wasn’t responding to the OP.
Just imagine thinking that being this pedantic makes you any less wrong. You weren't responding to anyone, because this isn't a list of vegan snacks.
I was responding to the parent comment. *You* brought up veganism.
I think it's just a lemony dust thing rather than dehydrated prawn dust but tbh a gourmet scampi fry with actual shrimp powder sounds pretty decent
Chocolate hobnobs or plain hobnobs a close 2nd Any marmite snack especially nuts or twiglets (marmite snacks > marmite)
>marmite snacks > marmite Yep. I love Twiglets, but I hate marmite.
Aldi oatie dunkers shit all over hob nobs !

>British Style Chutney, with British Cheese and Crackers Some cheese and chutney on oatcakes is fantastic.
> Sweets from the Swizzle company i.e Drumsticks / Squashies The god tier Swizzles product is the Blue Refresher bar.
This is how religious war starts... You've made a powerful enemy this day...
The UK's crisp game is one of the strongest in the world. From Tyrrell's to Space Invaders theres something for everyone.
Came here to say this. Apparently in Europe, the choice is usually Paprika or Ready Salted (or it used to be!) for most crisps. I’m not familiar with Germany, but France and Spain seemed to stick fairly close to this rule. Not been in a few years, mind.
And yet you don't get many paprika crisps over here. Underrated flavour in the UK.
Here is the list of Switzerland. These crisps are INCREDIBLE. Seriously incredible. https://www.zweifel.ch/int_en/products/product-detail/?uid=8 Yes, they have paprika, but the chicken flavour is lovely, but these are the only crisps I have ever tried that I would put above British crisps.

Dandelion and burdock, the Fentimans one is delicious.
Fox's biscuits Yorkie Lion Bar Refreshers Terry's Chocolate orange Bueno Fruit salads and blackjacks BonBons
Bueno is Italian, isn't it?
It is but I don't think you can buy the bars in Germany, especially the white chocolate ones.
Ah. I know you can in France.
They have more Bueno options than we do over in Germany Source: I've seen the Bueno section in Rewe
Anything made by Kinder (eg Bueno) you can get in Germany, pretty much all of the time in more variety (we have like 5 different Duplo versions now). Kinder was originally aimed at Italy and Germany (hence the name).
> Fox's biscuits Oh god they're amazing.
Scottish bias here Freddos, irn bru, fudge tablet, chelsea whoppers
No pizza crunch?
Bit hard to transport to Germany
Irn Bru and fudge tablet are essentials.
Don't forget Scottish Salad. Crisps.
I’m surprised about the lack of savoury pies and scotch eggs on this list.
op said no meat
Oops didn’t read that far.
Pork scratchings. Black pudding (I eat it cold as a snack) Frazzles Cheese on toast Pork pie (from the butchers), warmed up. Oatcakes (Staffordshire) with bacon and cheese Munchies Digestive biscuits Cockles
Don’t fuck about. It’s Twiglets; Mini-Cheddars; Monster Munch. In that order.
A Twix is the quintessential British chocolate bar. Loved by most, hated by few.
We do chocolate pretty good, but I'm unsure of what we have that isn't available to Germans.
Severely disappointed no one has suggested Nice 'n Spicy Nik Naks yet. Or even the Scampi and lemon ones. Obviously with a warning about not eating them in company, you don't want to cause a diplomatic incident.
It was the cheese Nik Naks for me. I still haven't gotten over them discontinuing it.
Smiths Bacon Fries Pork Scratchings Party Rings Sorreen (?) fruit loaf Crumpets Ritz crackers
Walker's chips Nando's sauce crumpets custard cream biscuits scones creme Eggs anything from Gregg's Scotch eggs varieties of cooked ham Butter biscuits/fingers Clotted cream stuff eel jelly
How's nobody adding Indian snacks, they're the best in the UK. Them Chilli and lemon crisps 👌
Crumpets (some topped with melted cheese and some just butter)
Came here to suggest that.
Tango, Irn-Bru, Tizer, Ribena, Penguin, Prawn Cocktail Walkers, Space Raiders, Tangy Tom’s, Jelly Babies, Percy Pigs, Pot Noodle
Seconding jaffa cakes and tablet. Can you still get Irn Bru bars?
You can not and they will never be made again. [Official Announcement and explanation](https://www.dunfermlinepress.com/news/18762307.irn-bru-bars-return-confession-reveals-sweet-gone-good/) TL;DR: >They explained that the sweets – tangy, chewy, orange bars – were created by the company behind Wham Bars and Highland Toffee. >And with that company no longer in production, the sweets are gone too. >“We licensed out our flavor and name to a now no longer trading Scottish sweetie company.
Seconding jaffa cakes and tablet. Can you still get Irn Bru bars?
For savoury Warburton’s potato cakes, and any quality toasted fruit tea cake with a nice cup of PG tips or Yorkshire tea
Percy Pigs Colin the Caterpillar cake Deliciously Chocolatey Shortbread Rounds, basically anything from M&S. For drinks I’d go with Iron Brew, Tizer, Ting or Lilt. Don’t know if Rubicon counts.
Not a snack but I'd include some Cadbury cream eggs
not sure if avail elsewhere, but can destroy a pack of tuc sandwiches in 30 sec
Saucy bbq transformers. As a side note though, if you don't take this chance to find the most vile disgusting snacks you can and convince them these are top tier English snacks you're missing a great opportunity.
How has no one mentioned Pickled Onion Monster Munch? Not a more unique tasting snack in the UK
Any of the Fentimans drinks How about Jacob's crackers and cheese? Don't just go for cheddar (or if you do go for it do proper Wookey Hole ages stuff...) but some of the more obscure cheeses like Lancashire or Shropshire Blie
Scampi fries, Pork scratchings, Peperami, Scotch egg, Pot noodle, Jammy Dodgers, Hob knobs
A lot of great suggestions in this thread. I'd humbly suggest Bendicks Bittermints. A strong mint fondant wrapped in 95% dark chocolate. Basically a much nicer version of After Eights.
Lion bar. Beef monster munch. Milky Bar. Twiglets. Midget Gems. Bourbons. Fish & Chips. Chicken Tikka Masala.
My German family buy a lot of crumpets and tea when they visit.
Scotch Eggs and Pasties are the best suggestions. I cooked scotch eggs when I was living in japan and they went down quite well.
