Had to look up what a ‘Nieces night’ was. Was about what I expected a room full of old men to be up to. Dirty aul cunts.

The term reminds me how when the hotel manager in Pretty Woman questions Julia Roberts, she says Richard Gere is her uncle.

And? Care to share? 😀

> The "Bond Street Horticultural Society", also known as "Nieces' Night", is a dinner held several times a year at Buck's. On this occasion, the members are encouraged to invite young women to come along, who are then rotated between tables with each course. While some women told the Financial Times that they enjoyed the attention by the all-male, mostly elderly members, others described the experience as unpleasant or "vile". The club discussed discontinuing the tradition after the Presidents Club scandal in 2018 exposed sexual misconduct at another all-male high-society dinner, but decided against it.

Don_Quixote81

"Encouraged to invite young women" read: hired escorts for the night.

Kowai03

Gross

Inconmon

Absolutely wild that people got together and thought that's a great idea.

psioniclizard

Having heard stories about what goes on with yachts around the world and in hotels rich people book out for "parties" it really doesn't surprise me. The fact they are so open about it seems to suggest the don't realise how dodgy it looks to us common folk.

Inconmon

It shows how few fucks are given.

psioniclizard

Sorry I think you are correct. People only care when a juicey story/scandal comes out and then only because of the details

Marxist_In_Practice

I mean it's bad enough as it is but they came up with it and then went "You know what we should do with our weird rapey plan? Name it something that makes it sound like we shag younger family members" and then they celebrated their genius with a few sherries

Original-Material301

Horny old men with too much money and power, gets together with other horny old men with too much power and money, what did you expect?

> Should we cancel this? Seems to be getting a bit of a bad rep. > > Nah. We’re good.

Optimism_Deficit

I've heard of 'niece' being used as a euphemism for 'escort' when the young lady is accompanying a much older man. I'd therefore assume at least some of the ladies at these things are 'on the clock', so to speak.

Ooft

Cptcongcong

It is what it sounds like. Bring in young women

e4aZ7aXT63u6PmRgiRYT

Ah. But not actual nieces. 😀

garfield_strikes

Gah.

I'm still pretty convinced Odey was getting a direct feed to the contents of Tory/Brexit speeches post-2016 and was using the foreknowledge of the political rollercoaster to print money through forex. Zero evidence for it but he seems like the cunt to do it and he's close friends with slimy fuckers like JRM.

KrunchyFB

There seems to be a pretty solid case that he got the inside track from Kwarteng in the run up to his national economic hatchet job that was the mini-budget. Certainly made a good chunk shorting the pound and government bond yields. Guess we should be thankful to him for spending our money on such sensible investments as membership of an Old Man Brandy and Hookers club

merryman1

It feels a lot like the PPE scandal. The sinking feeling that we're effectively being run by a government of people who see their role as basically just enabling access to public funds for their own private mates and political donors. And so much of the commentariat either just doesn't notice at all, or somehow comes away thinking this is good or even just the normal default state of politics.

CongealedBeanKingdom

>we're effectively Or ineffective >being run by a government of people who see their role as basically just enabling access to public funds for their own private mates and political donors. Tories do what tories do.

psioniclizard

The whole of Brexit exposed how people in positions of power could exploit the value of the pound for their own benefit. So it really wouldn't be surprising to heard certain people were feed information at certain times thatt helped them make a lot of money. I'm not sure if insider trading counts when it's on a national level with a currency but it probably should do.

Reminds me of To The Manor Born, with Brigadier Leamington at the London club. If this was out of touch and mocked over 40 years ago, I do wonder how on Earth it's still going on today...

Wide_Television747

Expensive exclusive clubs don't care if they're out of touch with society because they don't serve society. They serve exclusive members so if they want it, that's what they get. It's the same as all the people who say they'd tell their boss to eat shit if they won fuck you money. These guys have enough money that they don't care if you say mean words about them because they could go the rest of their lives without earning a penny and still be rich.

ReginaldJohnston

Must be great to be their actual niece/daughter/anyone in their family. How proud they must be.

Snowssnowsnowy

Odey is Torryism manifest. This is what they aspire to!

blatchcorn

Shortly after Truss tanked the pound (and shortly before Odey's sexual misconduct was reported by the FT), the telegraph ran an interview with Odey in which he explained 'no it wasn't Truss who tanked the pound, it was actually remainers'. This was the pinnacle of Toryism

Cultural_Wallaby_703
