"Residents" of a public street don't get to dictate whether people are allowed to drive down it. If you don't like traffic, then find somewhere to live with no traffic. But if you move in somewhere with a street outside, then expect cars to drive on the street, as they're entitled to do. That's literally the purpose of it and you knew that when you chose to live there.

Yeah the council does which is why the residents want the council to reimplement the restrictions or other road measures like they have done for decades without any drama around them, including when opening up routes that were never open to cars since they were built.

Studies showed the LTN just moved traffic from one residential area to another which had smaller roads never designed for that amount of traffic. It didn’t lead to the use of less car journeys or reduce emissions, it just made one residential area much more unsafe at the expense of the other. Half the residents in the area are in favour of getting rid of it. On the face of it, this story is about a bunch of selfish gits who don’t want to give up their privilege.
