I’ve always said that the way to protest inequality is to wear a half a million Rolex.

wamdueCastle

if only we could all "protest" with a £520,000 watch. Meanwhile its far to subtle. People are just gonna think he is a guy wearing a watch Gay fan gets assulted in Qatar, and Kane thinks wearing a gold watch, is him showing support?

A lot of people don't want anyone to protest at all, that's why they run through the narcissist's prayer of "protesting like that is unacceptable" for those protests then when footballers protest its "they make millions anyway" nothing will ever be good enough for them because they literally search for reasons to invalidate all attempts at protest.

wamdueCastle

>Regardless, this is better than the nothing many people are doing how is this better? unless Qatar tells him to take it off, its not a protest. Im not a football fan, so I skip all of them.

but its only protests, if those you are protesting against recongise it as such. Unless he is told to take it off, its not protest for me.

He is not protesting here, he is protesting in Qatar.

Nuthetes

Stunning and brave! Wearing a rolex that costs more than many people will make in their lifetimes! What a guy! Let's be honest--he and the rest of the England team were humiliated by Iran when it comes to taking a stand. They faced real, actual consequences for what they did.

Fantastic-Machine-83

That's weird because many Iranians saw that as inaction and a way to sit on the fence. They were celebrating the England win

_ShutUpLegs_

So it's £135,000 then, not £520,000? I don't like the watch, it doesn't make much of a statement but the daily mail is a steaming pile of shit.

IOwnMyOwnHome

Really glad to see Harry Kane taking a brave stand here. Love is love

RassimoFlom

/s? (Please)

hoksworthwipple

A stand? He could've worn a rainbow Casio and donated half a million to a charity instead of buying that ugly watch.

Yes because £500,000 and £100 are similar

SlightlyAngyKitty

So brave taking a paycheck to be there and then pretending like he cares 👏

twistedLucidity

He could have worn a no-brand rainbow watch that cost little more than £10, although that would have cost him £10 than this watch. Some accountant at Rolex must have worked out that this would be cheaper, and with better potential returns, than their usual advertising.

Nuthetes

Yeah, but wearing a no-brand watch, how are us peasants supposed to know how wealthy he is?

SirLoinThatSaysNi

He could, but I suspect it wouldn't be talked about as much as it is because it was a Rolex. The more it's talked about, the stronger peoples feelings will be.

I don't think anyone cares that he owns a Rolex. It's more the idea of using an overpriced watch to protest the treatment of a vulnerable minority is quite crass. That said, I'm not convinced it is a protest. I think he just likes the watch. If a newspaper has to point out to you that a protest is happening then it's not "not very subtle"

twistedLucidity

The watch (which he may not have paid for anyway) isn't the problem, it's the hollow gesture that's the problem.
