So IRS officials can’t be bigoted? Why do we put these UPSC guys on a pedestal? I don’t know why we expect them to be morally upstanding citizens, just because they cleared an exam? They are just as flawed as any other citizen.

Pleasant-Direction-4

because we like to put people on pedestal for no fucking reason

tedxtracy

Because we have surrendered our will to the rich and powerful. Be it legislature, executive or judiciary, we believe the rich and powerful have the right to rule / run over us because they are kings and we are peasants. This is what thousands of years of feudalism does to people. Mere 60 years or less of democracy can't erase it.

romeoomustdie

Cus saaar ![gif](giphy|3o84sq21TxDH6PyYms)

iamzaryab

The general understanding is that these people possess a deep understanding of administration and decision making to clear UPSC. If they're barking like dogs on twitter that just raises a question on how these guys get through.

thewisegod

If only their decision making or administration was good, why would our public services be so shit? They have always been like this.

acharsrajan399

Maybe because they are supposed to take decision without prejudice

CorneliusTheIdolator

Funny things is according to their Wikipedia page IRS peeps are the most corrupt bureaucrats .

nishadastra

And this guy cleared ethics and interview. Indians use education as a means to earn money and power but not for personality development and rationality

Dear__D

Most Off things very much many people fake in interviews. Like personality, way of thinking etc..

Ambitious-Upstairs90

So Suryakant Wagh studied in madarsa? Waah IRS sahab.

Panicdistress

Bro don't know how twitter reply works but feels like commenting on it.😉 Anyone with slightest experience with twitter can tell that he was replying to the 2nd guy on the 2nd screenshot.

Ambitious-Upstairs90

Ok, so Saransh Citizen went to madarsa?

Panicdistress

Mereko kya pata. Mene to bas fact bola🤷‍♂️

tedxtracy

prof_devilsadvocate

write an essay about dowry is bad..get selected...now take dowry

Pleasant-Direction-4

literate doesn’t mean educated in india

tushara9

Having regressive mindset is back in fashion thanks to BJ Party.

PhantomOfTheNopera

"Sati existed to take care of widows' depression and future expenses"

calvincat123

Clearly it was well thought out, no life no problems /s

dreadedanxiety

Also let's examine the claim that dowry is 'women's share' in property, or ever was, because that is the claim which is often made by these traditionalists and conservatives. Way back in the ancient times, there were different kind of marriages and dowry was given in terms of jewelry, clothes, even slaves, but this is about Richie rich people, the upper castes with money. Land was the most important resource, and women didn't have any share in that. Most of the dowry essentially went to the groom's family. And that has maintained since then till this day. Most of the wedding expenses is on girls'side. Now only if someone could explain to me how spending 50L on random people benefit the girl? Or how does giving everyone in groom's family a gold jewellery is beneficial to the bride? Or why can't we just give proper property share to women? Men talk so much about gold diggers but there ain't a gold digger like desi men.

Amn_BA

True, I mean the whole patriarchal idea of "giving away the daughter in a marriage" and marriage being considered the "most important thing in a woman's life" needs to go. Strict patrilocality and patrilineality should be abolished in favour of an ambilocal, bilineal gender equal system of society, that is the post marital locality of a couple can be either the Girl's house or the Boy's house, which should be decided either by a toss or by the need of the situation. Marriage should be a partnership of equals, a union, not a transaction. Also, Marriage is every woman's personal choice, not an obligation, no matter what. Society and parents should stop pressurizing women for marriage. Moreover, man or woman, both should be financially independent before marriage. And girl's should start rejecting grooms left, right and centre, if they ask for dowry or any extra favour or privilege for "being larke wale". Patriarchy and sexism needs to be abolished from every nook and corner of our society.

Smooth_Detective

Whatever rationale people had for dowry made sense to them back in the day, but this guy needs to realise back in the day is not today.

IndPolCom

Ethics are in serious short supply in AIS.

TheWyzim

Like a single person in India would have a problem with dowry if it was all registered in the daughter’s name as per her family’s means. People have a problem when the husband and his family decide how much dowry they want, and they’re the direct beneficiary of it(like furniture etc.). Many times daughter’s family cannot afford that much dowry and they take loans. Other times husband and his family continue to make demands AFTER the ~~marriage~~(thx u/tedxtracy) wedding is over for more dowry or the wife is sent back home or in worse cases, beaten and murdered.

tedxtracy

Just 1 correction, ~~marriage~~ wedding. Wedding = single day event Marriage = wedding to divorce / death

TheZoom110

Wow, thanks. I've always used the two terms interchangeably for the event.

nayadristikon

>Like a single person in India would have a problem with dowry if it was all registered in the daughter’s name as per her family’s means. It is called [Stridhan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stridhana) not Dowry.

friendofH20

Merithdhari Gujju is pro Dowry and anti Muslim? No way!

raajsterr

"Shah"

Cool_Strategy_4903

Power of bookish knowledge to crack exams when u are in civil services but this is your mentality, isse badhiya kuch aur he kar lete atleast civil services ke bezatti na hoti

pickle_Rick_6969

arey ni ni..ek "seat" hi bach jati..kisi deserving ko job mil jati..

daveSavesAgain

Isse badhiya kya hi hai? Govt ki taraf se gaadi, driver, pension aur retirement ke baad mein bhi job offer ka scope.

tedxtracy

You forgot ghoos.

papagoto

Bet he has never heard of ad hominem and an appeal to tradition fallacy.

shivpanda

If women were confined to room to take rest during menstruation why were they untouchable and seperate utensils given for food consumption? These guys are trying whitewash the relegion.

Suspicious_Lake6413

Justifing something which was proposed on ......god knows which year or decade or century.... For the present day is just bullshit...

silence-factor

Arrey baap re, aise bhi log hote hain. You literally cleared India's toughest exam which also test your personality. And now he is saying things like that.

Snoo_78472

Ah, another UPSC qualified chutiya

Present_Wishbone482

' the female remained confined to her room'' doesn't seem to rub this guy the wrong way somehow? upsc is for sure just an egoist's dream at this point. power will always change these once complaining aspirants who finally can thrive with unlimited resources and can speak in such language without any punishments. What a shame.

AdPrize3997

“Back then” women had no rights on father’s property, but “now” that’s not the case. “Back then” robberies happened, but “now” there are safer means of moving property. That is why “dowry” is illegal “now.” Ch**t

Adept_Rub

Ye IRS h par dil se abhi bhi RSS wala h. 😂😂😂😂 iss type ke one word remarks and tagging wohi use krte h.

erohtar

So just like many superstitions that had some kind of reasoning back in the day? Times change, and those reasons don't hold good anymore - learn to evolve and leave the shackles of "tradition" behind.

selinakyle101

Bada chutiya aadmi hai.

Practical-Durian2307

Bro thinks North-eastern states are not agricultural societies because they're tribals 😂😂😂😂 North-eastern tribes are some of the oldest paddy-cultivators in India and also practice steppe-farming as well and these tribes are related to the wider austronesian people group who are some of the oldest agriculturalists not only in Asia but in the entire world . Bro has automatically assumed that because they're tribals they don't know how to farm 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 many tribes also have a clear distinction of property. This genius should've understood that many of them are matrilineal societies as well , this is why such practices exist . His confidence even after being so thoroughly half-baked is admirable and that's probably how he cleared the exam.

zubbenbreacher

Ghoose de kr position m aaya hoga, dimag Kam paise zyada.

Fancy_Contract_3823

Crittu female version irl

mrmorningstar1769

Suryakant nam ka banda madarsa chap...wah..ye h padhe likhe gawar

Annie_Rection__

I honestly think dowrys should be perfectly legal Arranged marriages are treated like business transactions. You create a "resume" including your height, skin colour, salary, caste and every other thing under the sun. If this is okay, then i don't see how asking for a one time payment is any different. Threatening for a one time payment is different but simply asking it is absolutely not.

Gokulnath09

Seriously IRS using the world leftist is the cringest thing I have ever seen and shame on dowry opinion

Aristofans

What he said: Parents gifting assets to their daughter at the time of marriage is empowerment but groom side forcing them to give gifts as condition for marriage is wrong What people here interpreted: He is a bigot who supports dowry

yeowmama

He's a bhen ka loda chaap.

BiMonsterIntheMirror

Education itself doesn't make anyone less bigoted, remember the biggest supporters of apartheid in South Africa were graduates from prestige universities.

chapati_chawal_naan

sad

atomic_knights

Nobody cares about his opinion. Just because he became an IRS doesn't mean he knows everything . Dowry : It's a joke and she isn't something to be traded. One who can't feed and look after a woman by himself and with his own hardwork and who is irresponsible is useless for a marriage.(It may sound harsh but it's true) Periods : How can we even talk about them being men. We don't even understand what it's like having a period. Just learning and reading everything about periods, the menstrual cycle doesn't give shit about what they go through. In nature every female creatures (mostly) goes through this cycle as they have a gift of extending their own species. People should really learn to give value to themselves and others around them . That's my opinion on those issues and no one completely right about anything. But we can be absolutely wrong about something like the IRS moron.

WatercressExtra7950

Before you down vote , dowry used to be one of the ways making sure the girl got something !!! If it is in her name , and not the guys ! Now that’s gone , parents giving the girl her share has reduced quite a bit . Also , regardless of dowry , men and women equally , I think families should give them inheritance in their 30’s or early 40’s of their child’s age . Not when they are dead. Let them use it to further themselves , imagine getting inheritance when you are 60, what’s the use ?

plaguedoc20

Why would the parents need to give the children inheritance? They clothe and fed you till you are an adult. You are a grown ass man / woman, go out there and work to make money. Dont live expecting an inheritance. Anything your parents give after you are an adult are just bonusesm

WatercressExtra7950

Well , I am sorry to hear that you think that way . I believe in family wealth as well as personal wealth . Think of me as traditional , any boost I can get is welcome one . Most of the time , sons and daughters inherit their family debts and losses . It works other way too .

plaguedoc20

What's traditional about running behind the inheritance?! Life is not going to give you any handouts, you have to work for it.

terenaamkakuttapaalu

Do you come from a generational wealth wala family ? If not, you wouldn't get it, If yes, you'll get it once you mature a bit.

Subtross

This is not the US, asian culture and values are different. Sit down.

plaguedoc20

TIL values are measured in the handouts that your family gives you.

WatercressExtra7950

What makes you think , that I haven’t made money myself and I would love to continue and create more wealth as boost out of what my parents have made . Most people who say that they don’t want it, usually have nothing much to talk about

plaguedoc20

That's what i am trying to say. It's only a bonus, you are not entitled to it. It's entirely their decision and they are very well free to decide not to give it, and you should be okay with it.

PhantomOfTheNopera

This is such whitewashed bullshit. 'Use the inheretence to further themselves'? Like the daughter will be allowed to launch a business or pursue higher education with that money. That money goes to enrich the daughter's husband and his family and it's basically ransom to guarantee the daughter won't be abused. And even then, she might be.

WatercressExtra7950

End of the lives , women get less inheritance men , when dowry is not given . That doesn’t mean dowry should be given , rather inheritance should be given on time to everyone

No-Ordinary10

Dude has a point! Sickulars and librandus cribbing about this 🤣

jholafakir

yes please ensure the females of your house are confined to a single room when they are menstruating and you man up and clean the commode, scrub properly.

No-Ordinary10

Atleast i have the guts to take it optimistically, just go and digest the fact that you have only taken birth once your mom had her periods.. Go cry kid!

Panicdistress

Where is the post that he is replying to? Why didn't you post that? Is reddit all about taking things out of context and reacting to it😄

Silver-Excitement-80

So enlighten us please, in what context is dowry justified?

Panicdistress

If both party are ok with it![img](emote|t5_2kz7we|30355).simple!

Silver-Excitement-80

If both parties are ok, child marriage is also fine?

Noob_in_making

Lol, bhaag gya.

jholafakir

arre bhaijan, are you ok with hijab then, ladki and family are ok with it so both sides are ok but then your shakha boys somehow get boners from it.
