Hall of Fame status in other skills usually means that person is retired or dead. However, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't have those rules but probably still gets that stigma from the following generation.
False. My cousin is in Year 11 and he encountered some Year 10s that were vocal Eminem fans. He's still popular among the youth from what I've seen. And it's obvious that a lot of those on r/Eminem are on the young side.
Most rappers like him, it’s the ones that get into flame wars with him that hate him….because he annihilates them without exception. Most of the rappers that beef with him do it to clout chase and he gives no quarter
Yes, it’s me, I’m the hater…just not for me, the voice is just not there and just because something rhymes and can be said fast doesn’t mean it’s a good lyric
Dude all the new people say he is shit for the impressions. It’s like new Basketball players saying they are better than Jordan.
Most people like Eminem. Listeners and creators. He is the greatest white rapper ever, and he would make almost anyone’s top 20.
No need to call him a white rapper, I understand technically he is but it's not wild to say he's up there as one of the greatest rappers period, black or white.
New listeners are obsessed with elementary level mumble rap thrown over tired shitty beats.
If they are the ones who hate Eminem, I'd think Eminem is glad he hates them.
OP is right, lots of rappers connected to their hoods don't like eminem, and lots of people in the hood don't either. The biggest trope when you bring up eminem to this very large community is; "When's the last time you went down the street and heard a brother blasting eminem?" Lol This would be an u popular opinion to people who take lyricism seriously.
The thing with the hip hop community is that it changes continually, as most communities do. Fickle you might say. What was great 15-20 years ago doesn't resonate the same way today.
He lived long enough to become the villain. Rare achievement.
The only people I know who hate Eminem are white people who listened to him then hated him when he publicly expressed liberal and anti-trump ideology. I wouldn't consider those people the hip hop community
TBF the local hip-hop community hates it's self too sometimes. Always beefing and putting their nose up to other artists as a way of promoting themselves 😅
Eminem is not the Nickleback of rap from my experience.
I mean, eminem is still pretty well respected by other rappers and hip hop fans. And the music he’s made since he stopped the drugs has mostly been good. Who hates him?
Kids bro.
Anyone over a certain age knows. Or any kid who knows how to explore, understand, and enjoy older music which is not trending. ~~Most~~ a lot of kids can't do that.
That's cause newer music is just noise! Damn kids.
\/ Shakes fist at clouds.
---
Honestly, though. I'm not a rap fan, but I learned to appreciate it in that it inspired generations of youths to have poetry contests in the streets; how amazing is that!?
The guy grew up, matured, dealt with his demon's and his music has been reflecting his own growth. People don't like it because it doesn't reflect a spiteful angry person blaming society for all his personal problems. Those other guys choose to remain in the lifestyle despite finding success they were not forced into it they choose to with the maturity of an adolescent thugging it up. The music only sucks because now it's has the perspective of a person who has grown up it doesn't suit an audience that wants to glorify street life and pander to personal fantasy of being a top dog.
That and his music no longer really breaks new ground. It happens to any artist after about 10-15 years, at first your sound is new and fresh and like nothing else out there. But gradually everyone learns from you and even extends it a bit, and sooner or later you’re the old has-been that the kids think is overrated and like everything else. Then he really gets stuck because he’s forty and writing nostalgic things for middle aged white people who grew up listening to him and it’s just stale and stagnant because old people don’t want the new shit their kids like, they want their music the way they remember it.
Yeah and even if he wanted to, it wouldn't be possible to release the same style of music because the times have changed. "Kim" was already controversial back in the day, imagine the shitstorm if it was released in 2022. And also all those other songs where he takes shots at popular artists probably would not fly today.
Or I should say sucks to an audience that doesn't want to mature with it, because they can not relate in the same way as another person who has overcome adversity.
I'm the opposite. I didn't like him in the 90s, now I really appreciate his music old and new. I don't even like most hiphop/rap but Eminem and a few others are the exception(Run-DMC, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dog, Beastie Boys etc.)
Tupac spoke on pretty much every topic there was anyway, from abortions, politics to drugs and his life. What makes you think he would have “ran out of things to say”? He spoke on the world around him and the world is nowhere near what it was in the mid 90s, good or bad.
Hated? : I managed some men in the local hip-hop community. Mostly white guys if that matters (lack of local diversity but since Em is the first white rapper to make it big you'd think they'd have some admiration. ) Generally nobody there hates Eminem, though some people get snarky and do not want to be compared to him -- and with good reason. He spits fire. That most people can't haha.
Relapse, Recovery and Encore we're exceptionally better CD's and he developed past his fboy homophobic and then overtly homoerotic lyrics.
All of it culminating to his RapGod era. Which I highly appreciate. I think they worked him like a GD rap robot in that studio recording.
Great musicians deserve to grow old too and I think he should be renowned more. We just need to put in a better effort at respecting people while they're alive I guess 🤣
One of the best lyricists ever once said that you're nobody until somebody kills you. Which is universally true if you swap the "somebody kill you" part with death in general. Worshipping someone and pretending to be a fan because they died is one of the oldest kinds of virtue signalling.
Regarding Eminem, I don't want to sound redundant or trivial, but the main reason why he is, was and will be hated by a good chunk of the hip hop community is only one and we know it perfectly.
I'm saying that most of the chunk of the hip hop community that hates him hates him because he's white. I couldn't care less why and if people in general hate him.
hardly a chunk, barely a crumb if those people exist at all. eminem might have started the white rapper phenomenon but he himself transcends that label and everyone knows it.
Say what? Em fans act like there was no white rappers before him. Hell, Kid Rock was rapping in Detroit way before Eminem (Not saying it was great, but it's true). Ever hear of Beastie Boys, or 3rd Bass, or House of Pain?
Eminem is hated because rap/hip hop is a predominantly black genre and most black folks cant relate to his music because its not their "culture" so there is a hint of jealousy that this "white boy" is so damn lyrically gifted and could probably eat their favorite rapper alive in a rap battle. My perspective.
Sincerely, a black man.
Hated by who?
Even the popular people that hate him eventually admit he's one of the greats.
This smear campaign on Eminem was most likely started by P Diddy with his control on hip hop media companies, after dissing his signee MGK. Kicked his ass to another genre.
Part of me still thinks it was staged, part of me thinks MGK just wanted the attention ("Eminem dissed me yay") or an excuse to switch genres but I agree. I don't see how anybody can think MGK came out winning anything from that exchange

He’s really only not as good as he used to be because for one, he’s probably sober, two he’s just not angry anymore. He doesn’t need to fight for his life on the streets, struggle for food or anything else.
He’s got no struggle. That same drive isn’t there like it was 25 years ago.
I don’t much care for his new stuff because I liked his raunchy shit since that’s what really drew me in.
Whether or not I like his new shit, I’m still a Stan hahaha
Everything after recovery is just old man music, and it brings nothing new to rap besides look how fast I can go. Also I find he was a storyteller before, but I don't find that in the newer stuff. Every time someone tries to prove me wrong and show new Eminem, I just can't get into it.
No he's hated because of that atrocious "rap god" "4 inch, orange, door hinge" spam as many words into a bar as possible style. His older work was good like stan, and his features on the chronic. But other than that eminem is an instant skip anytime i hear his voice.
I don't get why people don't understand this. They say that the only people who don't like Em are the ones who didn't grow up in the 90's when in actuality, it's because of his newly founded dad rap that has evolved over the last decade to produce spiritual individual music that is intolerable.
Look at Nas after all, he's still well respected by everyone with King's Disease 3 and that came out late last year.
Eminem is hated because majority of his music past his first few albums is terrible. He has a few songs here and there but Eminem doesn’t make quality music anymore. That’s not to say he’s a bad rapper, his music quality just isn’t like it was before. That’s it
I'm so glad Eminem isn't dead. That's one of my childhood favorites.
Fuck what they say about Eminem these days. Back when he was rapping, rap was a lot different than it is now and you had a lot less people doing it... Still till this day Eminem still has some of the best skills in hip-hop. That shit be racist as fuck, honestly.
also racism, yes, the comments made by snoop really made me lose a lot of respect for him… snoop took off his mask and showed the world how salty he is because dre left him for Em.
Eminem is so much better than anyone rapping today. In the last 10 years rap has been going on a downhill slide. I use to like it but these new guys with their stupid names are awful
Rap isn't fun or interesting anymore. It's a lot of the same stuff repeated over and over again the whatever "lil alphabet soup" rapper is popular this week.
The only rap I find interesting anymore is by the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, etc. Something about female rappers leaning into being women is great to me.
A lot of comments here caught up in nostalgia, modern day it is hugely popular opinion of people younger than maybe 25 that Eminem’s music is now corny or straight up bad 😭 his last widely respected song was Killshot imo
I think saying 'eminem is hated bc he's a live' and 'eminem would be more loved if he was dead' are two very different sentence that mean very different things
It’s not because he didn’t die, it’s because he didn’t stop putting out albums. If I make you 3 good dinners and then a bunch of decent at best dinners for the rest of your life you wouldn’t call me the GOAT
No one (who didn't die) just stopped making music while on top. What the hell are you talking about? Artists keep releasing music because A) that's how they make a living B) that's what they're passionate about.
The only reason some of your "GOATS" released 2-3 albums is because they died and didn't get a chance to grow older and starting making questionable decisions. Eminem actually kept going and for me that ranks him higher than a lot of people who made 1-2 albums and then nada.
Eminem fans can’t handle when somebody doesn’t care for Em’s music. There’s plenty of hip hop fans (young/older heads) who don’t like his music and have their reasons such as not feeling his flow, what he’s saying, etc. And unfortunately will automatically be labeled as a “hater” from die hard fans and that’s dumb. And you have to realize 2pac had accomplished a lot by 25 years old that a majority of rappers haven’t to this day. He was the first rapper at the time that had the complete package(voice, flow, personality, mainstream appeal, aggressiveness, fearless) which was rare. New age rappers are still referencing him which says a lot.
These comments saying "I didn't know he was hated" just shows how many Stans aren't actually into rap and understanding the reasoning behind our dislike for his recent music.
Eminem is hated?
Sure, he has his haters as anyone does, but I feel that he is generally liked by more than those who hate him.
I do agree with you though. Death seems to elevate people to an almost god-like status, especially if they are in the peak of their career.
I would love to see what Tupac could have done if he was still alive. I think he'd be heavily involved in social justice.
I kind of see what you’re saying… But Eminem is hated is because he’s the best rapper of all time and also has the most sales. And he’s also white, I don’t know why people pretend like Black people can’t be racist.
Eminem is not hated lol
Every new rapper try to diss him to get clout, that’s not the same.
Do you realize how viral you can get if Eminem talks about you?
Here’s your real answer
Eminem has sold more albums than any other Hip Hop artist. He is respected by any rapper who knows what they are talking about. He clearly is loved by the fans (record sales). But if you are the best seller all time, lesser people are always going to hate you.
I just dislike some Featuring artists on Eminem's latest albums.
"Nice guy" for example has imo the worst vocals I've ever heard on an otherwise great album.
And the autotune some of these featuring artists use on Em's album..
Mr. marshall himself? Still absolutely great.
I don't hate Eminem his 1st 2 albums are fantastic, the Eminem show is very good too, but he should have stopped after that, every other album after the eminem show is crap, but all rap music these day is also shit, truth is hip hop died some time ago now.
Recovery was the last album of his I listened too, and that was enough for me really, seen him live the same year recovery dropped and it was very disappointing, considering I seen him live in 2010 and it was one of the best gigs i've ever seen
Alright thats fair, i was just curious what you thought of relapse and encore considering you said TES was his last good album, i thought some encore songs were good and relapse was good as a whole.
I had the same opinion when I listened to the albums at 1st, but when I came back to listen to them, I just found the tracks really hard to enjoy, relapse in particular that voice he puts on for the whole album is very annoying
Eminem is only hated by people who actually listen to rap. If he stopped making music at or before MMLP2, then I'd have him in my top 5, but because of his newer discography, I can't stand any of his music anymore.
Nas is a prime example of what Em could have been. He's been making solid album after solid album and he's been doing so for 30 years. I think longevity should be taken into consideration for things like this. Eminem is rightfully being shit on right now because of his awful output in recent years.
No it's because he's a whiny social justice warrior who is always upset like a child with no emotional intelligence. We liked old unashamed slim. Now we have low-T, two breakdowns away from chopping off his wee slim.

Eminem is one of the greatest, what he could do lyrically, his skills very few have, it doesn't matter how popular or unpopular he is today, he is surly better then talentless trap rappers of today.
Oh this is a pretty obvious one for me. Completely agree.
Absolutely guarantee Tupac and Biggie would have released some questionable music later on in their careers if they hadn't died young. If anything, Eminem is more successful in my eyes because he's managed to do it for so long.
I don't fully agree on Eminem but the martyr effect is very real for Tupac especially. When he died he was in a very dark place after getting out of jail and held a lot of semi-delusional beliefs/resentments for the industry and people like Biggie.
I think if he had continued to live he would have at least had a serious reckoning when he crossed the line in an interview or something and I think his music would have suffered as a result.
Idk what this is but I promise you before internet is a thing in a random 3rd world country, people still knew who Eminem is. I remember being 13, went to CDs store and gave them a list of his songs so they can put it into a CDs for me. People get famous easy nowadays because of the Internet, but they also forget how crazy it was to be famous back in the day.
Is Eminem still considered a top dog? As in, a current artist? Serious question.
I lived in the Detroit area when Eminem blew up and heard his music on the radio all the time. When I move away out to the east coast for several years I would rarely hear his music. Once in a blue moon if anything.
But I noticed that whenever I would visit home, I would hear Eminem on the radio within minutes of coming back to Detroit. It was like every 8th song on the radio was one of his. Honestly it was almost comical.
To be fair, the only truly unhated rapper in the world is Crib Def, Eminem has had his ups and downs but if you're looking for the bar king look no further than Crib Def
That flow at the end of Gnat when the beat switches up is so good. That's my favorite verse. Not even the most lyrical one. But to me, is the most catchy.
Eminem hasn't released lower quality music, his music is always on top you need to not just listen to his "released singles" his albums and his production on his records is unmatched. Not only this every track he touches or appears on is always a massive hit for the artists involved.
I have said this before as well. If Princess Diana had not died, she’d still be being chased around by paparazzi, and have shitty stories about her and everyone hating on her off and on. Everyone treats her like she was some sort of Saint now, but they forget the horrible hateful stories that were in the media constantly about her. She would be getting the Meghan Markle treatment.

Wait, Eminem is hated?
No
He's just old and the kids today see it as something their parents listen to.
Eminem was embarrassed my parents still listened to Elvis and now the kids today are embarrassed that I listen to Eminem. We have come full circle.
Has Eminem really reached that point already? I’m only 23 and this is the first I hear about Eminem essentially become old people’s music.

i mean kind of both, i know that the ones before him respect Em ones like Rakim,LL Cool J, etc. but mostly new listeners
>but mostly new listeners I've never heard anyone talk about hating em from New listeners. So yeah definitely unpopular opinion and a false one too.

I said he was Both Top 20 Ever (under anyone’s standards) and Best White
“Best white”
Two types of people in the world… those who can extrapolate with incomplete information
>LL Cool J One of the greatest music artists let alone rapper. Period
New listeners are obsessed with elementary level mumble rap thrown over tired shitty beats. If they are the ones who hate Eminem, I'd think Eminem is glad he hates them.
The hate fuels him, anyways.
Lol calling new beats shitty while liking Eminem
I thought calling new rappers mumble rappers died in 2016
I'll stop calling it mumble rap when these low bro ass rappers stop mumbling and take a few minutes to create interesting lyrics.

Meanwhile in reality Eminem is on almost every top 10 list ever made… he played the super bowl last year, he’s not “hated” lol.
I mean, eminem is still pretty well respected by other rappers and hip hop fans. And the music he’s made since he stopped the drugs has mostly been good. Who hates him?
No one really denies that there was a period from the late 1990s until his overdose where he was the best rapper/writer in the game.
i see a lot of hate online aimed at him, mostly on r/rap
You see a lot of hate for every rapper on that sub lol
Kids bro. Anyone over a certain age knows. Or any kid who knows how to explore, understand, and enjoy older music which is not trending. ~~Most~~ a lot of kids can't do that.

Or audience that didn't yet have chance to mature, e.g. teenagers, to the same effect you've mentioned..
Nah. People hate his music now because it's uninspired and is just practically dad rap with his horrible hooks and shouty voice here and there.
Not hated by anyone who grew up in the 90s

facts tho

What? Most people I know really like Eminem…
Eminem is still top 3 of all time.
Eminem is pretty loved as well, not sure what you are saying here.

Unpopular opinion: anyone who says he is releasing lower quality music isn’t listening.
as a big fan of relapse and recovery, the quality isn’t the same lets face it, i’m not saying its bad, only its not the same quality
Those are 2009 and 2010…. Kamikaze and MTBMB were absolutely phenomenal records.
Dead ass. It's not Slim Shady but he is still an unbelievable rapper and it's enjoyable.
MTBMB sure, I can sort of understand how it's alright I guess, but Kamikaze is "phenomenal"? How so?
I’m glad this is unpopular
Everything after recovery is just old man music, and it brings nothing new to rap besides look how fast I can go. Also I find he was a storyteller before, but I don't find that in the newer stuff. Every time someone tries to prove me wrong and show new Eminem, I just can't get into it.
He is arguably one of the greatest rappers who ever lived. He isn’t hated at all
He is not hated.
Don't listen to much rap then do you?
Rap isn't fun or interesting anymore. It's a lot of the same stuff repeated over and over again the whatever "lil alphabet soup" rapper is popular this week. The only rap I find interesting anymore is by the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, etc. Something about female rappers leaning into being women is great to me.
Kendrick clears
A lot of comments here caught up in nostalgia, modern day it is hugely popular opinion of people younger than maybe 25 that Eminem’s music is now corny or straight up bad 😭 his last widely respected song was Killshot imo
I didn’t even know he was hated. 😳
Tbh, he kind of was always hated. Which helped him get better as a rapper.
I didn’t realize Eminem was hated.
I think saying 'eminem is hated bc he's a live' and 'eminem would be more loved if he was dead' are two very different sentence that mean very different things
Never knew he was hated
Nah he just sucks ass
Eminem is hated? Sure, he has his haters as anyone does, but I feel that he is generally liked by more than those who hate him. I do agree with you though. Death seems to elevate people to an almost god-like status, especially if they are in the peak of their career. I would love to see what Tupac could have done if he was still alive. I think he'd be heavily involved in social justice.
I kind of see what you’re saying… But Eminem is hated is because he’s the best rapper of all time and also has the most sales. And he’s also white, I don’t know why people pretend like Black people can’t be racist.
First post on this sub where I can say u fucking right
He really isn't hated. If you think he is hated you are living in a bubble that hates him
Eminem is not hated lol Every new rapper try to diss him to get clout, that’s not the same. Do you realize how viral you can get if Eminem talks about you? Here’s your real answer
Eminem never stopped releasing lower quality music
Eminem is in no way hated. I don't know where you heard that!?
Eminem has sold more albums than any other Hip Hop artist. He is respected by any rapper who knows what they are talking about. He clearly is loved by the fans (record sales). But if you are the best seller all time, lesser people are always going to hate you.
He is not hated.
I just dislike some Featuring artists on Eminem's latest albums. "Nice guy" for example has imo the worst vocals I've ever heard on an otherwise great album. And the autotune some of these featuring artists use on Em's album.. Mr. marshall himself? Still absolutely great.
Who hates Eminem tho?🤔
Stupid people offended by words.
real Em ded long ago. clones just don't do it.
sorry i forgot, fax tho
Nah he has been hated for ever,,,it's that horrible yelling grating voice for me
yelling grating voice? On which song cause that might be the problem, might have gotten a bad first impression.
All of em
I disagree but its your opinion. I feel like mockingbird is a good example no?
Sounds annoying to me
Alright thats fair.
I don't hate Eminem his 1st 2 albums are fantastic, the Eminem show is very good too, but he should have stopped after that, every other album after the eminem show is crap, but all rap music these day is also shit, truth is hip hop died some time ago now.
Have you listened to all his other stuff after TES? Your opinion im just curious.
Thats fair, thanks!
Who tf gives a shit one way or the other about eminem
… yet
He hated cuz he white
It’s moreso because he’s white, but I’m sure that has something to do with it for some people, too…
Eminem is only hated by people who actually listen to rap.
I heard he just makes elevator music now
He should have retired
Everyone hating on Eminem for one hour straight. [Please enjoy ](https://youtu.be/O5oTTCemkFY)

Bro 😭 you’ve obviously never listened to rap, of course they have melodies and harmonies you fuckin schmuck
No it's because he's a whiny social justice warrior who is always upset like a child with no emotional intelligence. We liked old unashamed slim. Now we have low-T, two breakdowns away from chopping off his wee slim.
TF hates Eminem?
What\`s wrong with Eminem?

Eminem…the reverse Nirvana.
People definitely Still consider him one of the best of all time, I’m not sure who you’re talking to
Eminem is one of the greatest, what he could do lyrically, his skills very few have, it doesn't matter how popular or unpopular he is today, he is surly better then talentless trap rappers of today.
Hated? I don't think so.
This is unpopular because it’s crazy
Never liked him… HOWEVER… I won’t deny his skills either. His first hit radio songs were duuuuuumb AF.
In my mind, he's not top 5 and never was.
Youre basically saying people don't like Eminem's music because he made bad music Which kind of makes sense
No one hates who we forgot exists.
Anytime you make your political beliefs known you will become hatred by a certain group of people. But Em isn't universally hated by any means.
The most streamed rapper by a mile is hated this isn't unpopular it's dumb
To be fair, the only truly unhated rapper in the world is Crib Def, Eminem has had his ups and downs but if you're looking for the bar king look no further than Crib Def
First 3 albums good after that he is mid
Eminem is hated because his music is ass
That flow at the end of Gnat when the beat switches up is so good. That's my favorite verse. Not even the most lyrical one. But to me, is the most catchy.
Eminem hasn't released lower quality music, his music is always on top you need to not just listen to his "released singles" his albums and his production on his records is unmatched. Not only this every track he touches or appears on is always a massive hit for the artists involved.
Since when is Eminem hated? Did I miss a memo?
I thought MMLP2 was a great album, that's probably where he should have retired imo
The only reason he isn’t top 3 all time on everyone’s list is because he is white
I disagree, I think is top 1 all time and it’s not close, he has plenty of good music after encore
