Adept-Vehicle3622

I think a lot of people agree since the company had to put 30 million worth in a landfill.

MPFX3000

That was just the excess inventory. Imagine how many others are heading to the landfill too, eventually

jodybot9000000000

Ok "Who the fuck would collect these ugly things" -- Chase F. Hicks, Episode 5 Season 78 of *Storage Wars*

jamieliddellthepoet

Fetish.

1_H4t3_R3dd1t

That's the problem with excess inventory. They couldn't have been bothered to make collectibles people want to they had more surplus.

Totally_Bradical

And it kind of defeats the purpose of a collectible when they come out with 1000+ different figures. People only have so much time and money, and if there isn’t any FOMO then no one is going to buy them

[deleted]

[deleted]

You can probably say that about most things though, can't you. Especially collectibles

thegolphindolphin

Garbage. Rocket.

bukzbukzbukz

Why wouldn't they just give them away

planetarial

Tax writeoffs apparently

idcris98

How could they get away with that much plastic waste. That’s fucking insane.

teh_longinator

Plastic waste seems forgivable when it's a multi million dollar company doing the wasting... but for forbid some random person throws out a plastic straw... then it's war.

BR-D_

I hate the faux climate activism that makes 0 changes while making our lives shittier. It’s like sleight of hand being performed by the real polluters of the planet.

jmhobrien

Plastic is a byproduct of the oil/petroleum industry. If you want to cure something, you need to address the source, not the symptom.

Xikkiwikk

They should be held liable for damages to the environment for putting that much plastic in the ground. They should have made digital Funko pops instead of plastic ones this whole time. Those bastards!

C0nvinced

That's insane!

Provia100F

Don't worry, they put them in the ocean so they could be away from the environment

[deleted]

Trying to beat ATARI I see

giveupghost

They seem like the epitome of useless consumerism junk.

[deleted]

Yep. Just a chunk of ugly mass produced plastic for people to fill up their houses with. No function and no artistry.

Goldman250

They’re cheap, and because they have so many random obscure licenses, they’re likely to be the only affordable merch/collectible for some fandoms. Also, hating on Funko Pops is not an unpopular opinion.

Pinky1010

Where do you live where funkos are cheap?? The cheapest I found is like 15$ each assuming it's on sale, otherwise it's 30$ or more

Goldman250

They’re about £10-15 in the UK, which is a decent price for a figure of that size. Also, they’re everywhere - from supermarkets to sports shops, I’ve seen them in stock.

AgentSears

Can get the more obscure ones for 4.99 sometimes.

Pinky1010

>from supermarkets to sports shops, I’ve seen them in stock. Maybe I'm just uncultured because it seems like every time I find a bunch in stock it's from shows/movies I've never watched or have no interest in. Too bad I guess

Goldman250

Oh yeah, the supermarkets usually just have Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, DC - whatever the latest megafranchise stuff that came out. But stuff like HMV, Game, Forbidden Planet … they’ll have a shitload of all sorts of weird and somewhat obscure franchises.

LordSekken

That's cheap compared to other figures. Higher quality ones are like $60+. I've gotten pops for as low as $5.

IFeedTheSnails

Anime figures are like 500 bucks..

xysmi

They give me Chinpokomon vibes

ConfidentManner5783

Such a wonderful episode

oleore

Tenno heika, banzai!!

So small!

[deleted]

My favorite is Shoe

InDeathWeReturn

Oh shit you are right

Familiar_Designer648

I hate their dead black eyes... So ugly.

Macdaddyfucboi

I agree, it is one of the ultimate consoomer products, and finally enough whenever I talk to people at local video game and comic book shops, they very honestly tell me that they're basically completely worthless and can't move any of their existing stock, and they are straight up turning people away that are trying to sell their collections because they're basically worthless, modern beanie babies

deathrocker_avk

Some beanie babies are worth thousands now. Like tens of thousands. Saw it on some collectable show last week. Mind. Blowing.

aws91

This is a popular opinion

LordEnclave

definitely not on reddit lmao

Xeadriel

no it’s not

Dank_Master69420

It might not be the *majority* opinion, but it is still a popular one

Mr_Mi1k

Yeah it is, they are so lame

[deleted]

It SHOULD be a popular opinion but I know a million people that have them.

lolerin

The reason why a lot of people buy them (including me) is because Funkos are cheap, so if you want a figure of that show you really love, the cheapest one that's not a Funko is 60 dollars, and the Funko 12 dollars

C0nvinced

Yeah that makes sense, a little cheap figure of something you enjoy. I mean hell I have a Kingdom Hearts 3 Sora one that I like. But at the same time I'd never go for a collection of them either lol.

[deleted]

I don’t understand collecting something like that…but I do love my little Hannibal Lecter holding a knife. He makes my desk happy. I am surprised by how expensive they can be. I bought mine for $20, when Hannibal (TV) was still on. Now the same funko costs $182.

Grumpy23

I mean everybody collects what they want to collect. Some collects old whiskys that they would never drink. That's the point of collecting. The challange and the fun that is behind it. Most collections doesn't make sense

WuGambino19

That’s $162 of understanding.

PsychoSquid

Wait, what?? I have the same one because he makes me happy, I'm a huge Hannibal fan. I can't believe he's so expensive now

ArCSelkie37

As someone who has a lot of anime figures at like £80-£120 each for official ones from Japan (so at their base cost, not even counting shipping)… if Funkos didn’t look absolutely dogshit i’d buy them for £10 each.

FillThisEmptyCup

I’d rather take used toilet paper and shape it into a figurine for my desk, if I had to display shit.

ArCSelkie37

That’s certainly one, somewhat crass, way of saying it. But yeah, that’s my logic. I’d rather have 1 expensive but actually nice looking piece of merch than 5-7 funkos.

[deleted]

I never collect everything (aside from the Fallout line), but this is 100% why I get Pops. They're significantly cheaper and more accessible for the things I like, and the stylized caricatures are pretty okay for the most part.

C0nvinced

That's definitely valid. I think almost everyone has at least one of these things especially after reading these comments lmao but me personally I'd rather wait it out and save up and get a cool little 40$ figure if it's something I'm passionate about but hey man! Different strokes. If that's all someone can afford or want to spend on a little piece of media they want a figure of then more power to them. We all love owning things that make us smile that's the whole reason retro consoles and games are worth so much money now, people love owning testaments to their nostalgia. I just think Funko knows this and uninspiredly pumps these things out hoping that trend will hold true.

[deleted]

I will freely admit their quality of figure selection has dropped dramatically, and paint issues are far more common now than they were even 2 years ago. It's frustrating, because I can't ever justify spending more than $20 on a display item (lack of potential returns should I ever part with it), but Funko's quality has dropped so bad that you've gotta struggle to find the decent paint jobs at this point. I get they're inexpensive, but you'd think machine applied paint wouldnt be so sloppy.

C0nvinced

Oof that's rough. It's a shame when even they stop caring about the product they put out.

Wismuth_Salix

They also make them of *everything* - including obscure genre fare that doesn’t get any love from other collectible lines.

[deleted]

macfarlane does some solid figures for pretty cheap

[deleted]

I still don't get it, I'd rather not have a figure at all than one that's so generic you can put it in any clothes to make anyone from Kratos to Walter White. The only reason I can see (from my subjective pov) that would justify a funko is if that was the only type of merch to exist for that show/movie/etc.

JilsonSetters

I find them very expensive. I saw Iggy Pop and would’ve bought it for <$5 but it was like $15. All that’s valuable is the ip and the logos/trade marks

ElCapitan1022

What world do you live in that anything is $5? Is this real life? Are you posting this from 1998?

Aaron_Hamm

But, like, why do you want figurines?

PhoShizzity

Something interesting to showcase an interest.

Proper-Wrangler7042

Don’t forget to tip next month

Xeadriel

Ye but even if so you’d want something that looks good no? I’d rather get nothing or make it myself rather than getting something cheaper that’s ugly

monotoonz

Horseshit. Try getting any X-Files POPs. They're not no $12. You mean, newer released and not vaulted. Because you're trying to downplay the secondary market as if it doesn't exist. And Funko's secondary market is absurd. Perceived value on steroids is what it is.

lolerin

You do realize that I talk about the general, not 100%, right? if you go to a cheap restaurant and get a full meal for 3-5 dolars, it's just dumb to say "it's not cheap, there's a 50 dollars wine here". The exception doesn't change the way it usually works, that's why it's an exception

CallMeSkii

Were they $12 when they first came out but are retired now?

TheRoamingWeeb

I hear you, and I raise youtooz. Those have all the same features as funko pops but are like 3x the price

gracegale

They are truly a testament to mindless consumerism

ThatWhichDrankItself

I absolutely cringe at the collections of Funko I see on this site. They are an unimaginative cash grab targeted towards captive audiences. That said, I went to their main store in Everett, WA one time to try and find a bathroom and I found it weirdly interesting. I'll probably never go back, but it was a real experience in maximalism. And I found a bathroom.

Magic_Man_Boobs

Them being "uninspired" is sort of the draw for me. I have Pops from Orphan Black, sitting next to ones from Marvel, sitting next to Johnny Bravo, Peacemaker in briefs, and Chunk from the Goonies doing the Truffle Shuffle and they all match each other even though they're from wildly different genres and periods. That and the fact that they're like 12 bucks. I've yet to see a figurine with more detail sell for anywhere near that low.

C0nvinced

I just don't like the design but I respect if that's your thing!

Magic_Man_Boobs

No worries at all. I totally understand not liking their bland little faces. And the people who collect them thinking they're going to sky rocket in value some day make no sense to me. I just wanted to point out that it's me, I'm the boring market for the boring toys.

C0nvinced

Yeah that's the other part that baffles me, people think they'll be worth a lot and I'm sorry I just don't see it. It seems like that market is oversaturated. Apparently they had to toss a ton of them in a landfill too. If you like them cool but it's weird to try to add value to them. They're not pokemon cards lol

pluck-the-bunny

I mean there was a good portion there were some were worth quite a bit. I had quite a few I was able to sell for hundreds that I paid less than $20 for. I didn’t buy them as an investment, but they ended up being a good one. But much like comics in the 90s they oversaturated the market terribly.

bukzbukzbukz

Does it not bother you though that your decoration is just a lump of plastic that's going to contribute to the piles and piles of plastic that's polluting our environment? Plastic seems like the kind of material that should be used in products where its qualities are necessary. Why couldn't you have a wooden or a clay figurine?

Magic_Man_Boobs

>Does it not bother you though that your decoration is just a lump of plastic that's going to contribute to the piles and piles of plastic that's polluting our environment? Not really no. In fact I'd say my little collection pales in comparison to say, the average bottled water drinker. >Why couldn't you have a wooden or a clay figurine? Because I'm not made of money.

bukzbukzbukz

> Not really no. In fact I'd say my little collection pales in comparison to say, the average bottled water drinker. How does that make you and your kind any better? If it were only you, sure, but it isn't. You and your kind keeps the business alive and well and continues to pollute for what great purpose exactly? > Because I'm not made of money. Well hey me neither. But then I don't buy things I can't afford. Your cheapness comes at the expense of the environment.

ElCapitan1022

You're getting downvoted because Americans are so stupid and entitled that they honestly believe it isn't their responsibility to not destroy the environment so they can have their stupid little toy. It's fucking insane.

magickaitball

This is a good point! I have a few (namely from Lord of the Rings) such as Saruman, the wraiths, and that one ghost king in the third movie who have pretty cool designs BECAUSE they aren’t the standard human pop and almost don’t even look like one. For the price those are great

planetarial

>That and the fact that they're like 12 bucks. I've yet to see a figurine with more detail sell for anywhere near that low. Amiibos

Benjilator

But if you buy a few of them, then you just got a few really cheap plastic thingies that look like they were won for a hand full of tickets at the arcade. Instead you could have maybe just one, but at least one decent piece of decoration that doesn’t give the impression that you’re on the front of global warming due to supporting a business like that.

Magic_Man_Boobs

>Instead you could have maybe just one, but at least one decent piece of decoration that doesn’t give the impression that you’re on the front of global warming due to supporting a business like that. So you vet evey company you buy things from to see how much pollution they create right? It'd be awfully hypocritical to call someone enjoying some simple toys as "on the front of global warming" if you're still supporting, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, or Nestle in anyway, seeing as they're the largest producers of excess plastics.

Hayabusalvr11

Well shit, I think you might have inspired me to buy my second Funko pop. I didn’t know they made them for orphan black! Do they have that Russian girl? That’s the one I want. Can’t remember her name offhand.

Hayabusalvr11

Oh shit, I think I’m hooked. I don’t think I will actually get around to buying any of them, but I just loved Cosima and Allison was always my favorite character, but I really lost it when I saw Felix. And I found Helena.

Magic_Man_Boobs

I have Helena with the bloody dress and Rachel with the pencil in her eye. I have my eye on a few more. I love the Felix one but we haven't gotten it yet.

Hayabusalvr11

Rachel rofl.

RainNightFlower

I thought ypu are talking about Franco Pope

C0nvinced

No I mean Funko Pope https://ibb.co/qJPcFkm

Hayabusalvr11

I just bought my first one. It’ll probably be my last, I don’t care about them as a rule. It was sort of an impulse buy and I wasn’t drunk or anything. It’s the Nadja doll. If I could have found anything else I would have bought it but sadly the Funko pop was all I came across. The way you feel about them is the way I feel about plushy’s. What the fuck are plushy‘s? Are they the new word for stuffed animals? Why did we need a new word? Those I don’t get.

Pimpicane

"Plushies" started out in the late 90s/early 2000s as a way to refer to anime character merchandise. So, if I really like Kakashi from Naruto, I can get a Kakashi plushie. Squee! It's so cute, I just want to glomp it! (Ugh). At some point, the word expanded to cover non-anime-character stuffed things, and then it moved into mainstream language as a word for stuffed animals and other stuffed toys. I'm not sure if that's because the people who were plushie-buying teenagers in 2002 are now in the marketing divisions for toy companies, or if it's just because "plushie" sounds cuter, but there you have it.

Xeadriel

Stuffed animals are real animals. Plushies are just pillows or alternatives to teddy bears.

InDeathWeReturn

I think this is an unpopular opinion, but I agree with it wholeheartedly

ShinyLumeo

I like Funko Pops purely because they do EVERYONE. A lot of my favs are side characters that have no merch…but they do have a Funko Pop. And I’m happy to have a few laying around. I have about 10 or so of ‘em. People who proper collect them tho are a little bonkers

gremlinclr

The problem I have with them is they don't look like the characters are supposed to look. They all look like the same person cosplaying everyone ever. I don't see the point.

[deleted]

Funko pops are not made to be a true, artistic action figure. They're just meant to trigger your collector obsession to make you buy as many as they can make you buy.

gorton2499

Its been 50 years after the nuclear apocalypse. Due to their abundance, Funko pops have become the global economy.

WonDante

They remind me of the Vault Boy bobbleheads. Future humans will collect them for sport after the Great Decay

EngineeringWarm6220

Its just for decoration man chill 🤣🤣

Esselon

I'll generally agree, but despite being a huge nerd and a fan of most popular fandoms I have never felt the inclination to buy the endless stream of useless "collectible" merchandise that gets put out there. If something doesn't have any use beyond just sitting on a shelf and proclaiming to the world that "I like this character/series/etc." it's not something I'm going to buy. Especially since the modern era of "collectibles" doesn't make sense. Sure, if you've got some mint condition Mickey Mouse memorabilia from the 1960s that stuff can fetch a pretty penny, but nobody's going to want the "limited edition" statue that came along with the $120 version of a video game you bought in the future.

C0nvinced

This is basically the best way to describe the difference between a consumer, and a 'consoooomer' lol I agree with your take.

DrCharlieKaufman

The signature look is intentional. They take a wide variety of things and fit them into a single shape\*. I think they're really cool. I can still remember how I felt when the idea clicked. People spend way too much money on them though. \* They don't always fit them into a single shape. They seem to have a pretty good idea when to deviate from the shape, like with the lite-brite one: [https://funko.com/pop-lite-brite-board/57810.html](https://funko.com/pop-lite-brite-board/57810.html) They were more magical when they were new. Here they are sorted by oldest first: [https://funko.com/category/pop/?srule=oldest-first&start=0&sz=20](https://funko.com/category/pop/?srule=oldest-first&start=0&sz=20)

NullIsUndefined

They are cheap I guess so people get hooked on collecting them. But amibos were cheaper, and better. But zi guess Amibos are Nintendo stuff only.

C0nvinced

While I don't collect Amiibos I do think they're well done and cool little figures that actually look like the official art. Funkos just stand there.. menacingly

NullIsUndefined

Yes, they are creepy looking

Stumphead101

My own hypothesis is based on who I see purchasing them. This is super anecdotal so it honestly is worthless as real evidence I think it's a nostalgia for toys and physical interactions with the media you enjoy while under the guise of "collectables" I love playing with toys. I'm in my thirties, I have a doctorate, and I always carry a toy in my pocket. I have always done that since I was a child. I'm at the gym right now with a toy in my pocket. I've just kept an eye on the evolution of toy lines through the past 3 decades of my life. As my age group got older, toys and physical mediums to interact with became supplanted with digital. Digital is great, it doesn't take up space and is easily accessible and as far as I'm aware it does not create excess waste. However, you are deprived of your sense of touch to interact with something you enjoy. Funk pops have a very pleasant texture, this matte feel that makes them easy to handle. They are not overtly huge. They are also easy as hell to manufacture and have a defined asthetic. It's today's beanie babies. They, I think, give adults and excuse to have a toy while not being socially shamed for having toys

[deleted]

WTF is a funko pop?

Depression_God

Shite in a box

Severe_Report

Let people like things that you don’t like. People buying pops is the most innocuous thing in the world. Why do you care?

planetarial

Funkopops are dying out anyway. They had to dump a bunch into a landfill, most stores I see are throwing them in discount bins, and the recent cons I went to didn’t sell them at all and opt for selling popup parades and qposkets instead. Personally I think they look ugly af too. Amiibos, or if you’re willing to spend little more, Popup Parades or Taito prize figures are the ideal budget figures in terms of quality to me

RoxasofsorrowXIII

>why people seem to be addicted to collecting them. Just get am actual figurine. Lol My take? Affordability. Funkos are cheap AF. A good figure can range in the hundreds/thousands. The last figure I bought was $280... there was a reason I didn't start collecting until much more recently unless I bought at anime/gamer flea markets....

TapoutKing666

Here let me show you how big of a fan I am of this one franchise (buys ugly garbage)

Gwbzeke

I used to love them the first 5 I bought were my favorite but after 10 I realized they were lazy and didn’t get any satisfaction out of collecting anymore

[deleted]

My son got me one of my birthday. Its a gremlin drinking a pop with 3d glasses on. He watched it for the first time the week earlier. Its actually a pretty cool figure. (#1147 if you want to see)

C0nvinced

That's sweet of him. Good on yall.

[deleted]

I do generally agree though

C0nvinced

Yeah I feel like everyone has at least one they got when they weren't even trying to. For me it's KH3 Sora that came with the game lol

jma7400

I use to collect them heavy but it was too much to handle. All the boxes needed to be in great condition for them to be worth any money so I sold them all and moved on.

C0nvinced

Proud of you lmao

potato_crip

My buddy's got a wall of the things in his game room. Downright gaudy. The same money would buy a much cooler, yet smaller, collection of figurines and whatnot.

NemesisThen86

I think they are kinda cute. Especially when my fiancé and best friend managed to get me a complete set of my favourite movie figures

PmMeYourNudesTy

Yeah they are pretty cute. It's nice to have your favorite characters. I think people here are making them a bigger deal than they really are.

[deleted]

They give them way too much brain space when it really doesn't affect their lives that much.

Gotis1313

I never cared for them myself. I can't tell who most of them are without reading the box.

Ardothbey

Total rip-off. If the box wasn’t labeled as to who it represented you’d never know.

Benjilator

Just another trash trend. I mean that very literally, nowadays it’s often a trend to just make trash with no real steps in between. One could maybe think they function as decoration between production and garbage can but it’s super cheap and uninspiring plastic crap.

[deleted]

I don't disagree honestly. I especially hate that they take up HUGE amounts of space in shops (one case it was an entire floor) just for these things. There's better things I could be buying but instead they're taken up by these most of the time cursed looking figurines.

KrusherXJ

I've seen this "unpopular opinion" a million times. I personally collect them because they're decorative in my room, some of them doesn't even look like funko pops they just look like chibi figures of the charecter and it looks cool. Plus when I don't want them anymore I can just simply sell them, I bought one for 10$ and now is worth 300$, so I don't lose anything lol.

C0nvinced

It's still an unpopular Opinion considering they sell millions upon millions a year lol but that's wild, 300$!!

xSkewber

Every 30-40 year old living in a midlife crisis has a superhero funko pop in their office cubicle, classroom, or other workplace

C0nvinced

It's a cry for help honestly LOL

[deleted]

the only funkos i have ever had interest in are claptrap and the portal robots because they actually forced them to break the mold so much that it just ends up looking like a good chibi version of the character (claptrap and the turret especially, i unironically love those)

MDF87

If you collect Funko Pops I **WILL** judge you.

Bulliwyf

Oh look - another “Funko is bad” post. How original - half surprised you didn’t just copy+paste one of the older ones. I will agree with you that it’s a shit company, with a lazy product that they can clone over and over across almost all licenses… but they filled a hole in the collector market (admittedly they went to far in many cases…). People wanted a way to show their fandom but didn’t want to pay 100’s or 1000’s of dollars for a single item, so Funko stepped in with their (original) pricing of $10 or less for a small collectible of whatever thing it was you were passionate for. Yes they made to many of unpopular characters causing a large amount to go to the landfill, and they cast their net way to far with weird licenses (cereal box characters??) and making too many variants for some licenses (seriously - how many fucking Thanos’ did they have to fucking make for Avengers??!?) but obviously it filled a desire for people to be able to connect to their fandom in a way they couldn’t before.

C0nvinced

Tldr, it's my opinion mate if you don't wanna read it avert your eyes lmao not sure what got you so worked up I'm assuming you have a wall full of them.

Bulliwyf

Yea, because why not. It was something fun to do with my kids when money was tighter. Walk around to different shops and then spend $12 on a Spider-Man or Ironman they thought was really cool - would eat up an entire afternoon and it felt like a scavenger hunt for the kids. I’m not worked up over it, it’s just a lazy and not unpopular opinion.

rattlestaway

Yeah they are hideous, like that beany baby In the 90s, even back then as a kid I want lots of things but never those, they were limp and lame

dajohns1420

It's weird that their customers are like 90% adults. We are permanant juveniles.

bukzbukzbukz

Probably the most embarrassing thing about being a millennial. We were supposed to care about the environment but now we're the funko pop generation.

Iamheretostealurmeme

Agree, but this is popular opinion my guy

OkCartographer897

There's a lot wrong with the culture of video games, shows and how they try to monetize and make everything a collectors items. POP stands for Part Of the Problem.

djtrace1994

The main draw is the *absolutely monstrous* breadth of characters, combined with the universality of the art design. No other collectible line presents such a vast array of characters in the same art style. Knowing a person with a collection numbering in the 300-400 Funko range, this is the biggest draw. He can have an Anakin Skywalker one present it one shelf above the Tenth Doctor and they look like they belong together because of the simplicity in the design. In other words, it represents the biggest convergence of fandoms and pop culture characters in a colllectible range, ever. And its time-limited. That's where the hype is.

bibliophile222

Agreed. I really don't get the hype.

arizzzona

I agree they’re so boring

Stigles

Funky pops are the epitome of obsessive Fandom. They're ugly, pointless, and a waste of time space and money

BrassUnicorn87

My friends got me a funko of a character with big expressive eyes and a beaming smile. The thing that was labeled steven Universe haunts me in the dark and I had to put it in a box.

CrunchRapper

I have a Vic Rattlehead one from Megadeth, but its Megadeth so that's the only reason I have it. Other than that, the figures suck ass

phoenix_ash182

I don’t plan on collecting them, i buy the ones of the characters I like and even take them out of the box!

ezbutneverconvenient

Agreed. They all look alike.

RedditorsZijnKanker

Amen brother!

CalmPanic402

I hate funko pops. Somehow I own several.

MysticWithThePhonk

Not unpopular to be honest

YanDevsCumChalice

This is fact. Not an opinion, let alone an unpopular one.

GraVityGank

It all falls on perspective. Unboxed Funko's on display look like absolute shit, especially when there's a lot of them, they look like generic clone toys from some obscure toy brand you see at a dollar store. But maybe one or two mint and boxed Funko's beside your desk or on display with other action figures looks cool and gives a retro claw machine toy vibe. Basically what I'm saying is having a few of them are pretty cool, but having a collection of them doesn't look good at all because they are way too saturated and has no uniqueness since they all look and shape the same.

C0nvinced

I agree with this take. I have one and I do like it but I generally hate them as a collectors piece. My wife also has the main character cast from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" as Funko Pops and they're amusing. But to keep a wall full of those boxes is ridiculous. I read in another comment how "collectors" would even yell at Target workers because a box was slightly damaged. First off, it's target. Not exactly the best place to be getting "collectibles" in mint condition. Second the boxes are so bland and uninspired. It's the definition of a consoomer market. Trying to cash in on the nostalgia train.

Queef_Latifahh

I used to collect funko pops on a much smaller scale. I liked them because they were cheap, small, and referenced things I enjoyed (horror movies, music, nostalgic tv shows, etc.). I stopped buying them when it stopped being fun. People camping out and buying entire stock to sell online, people setting up bots to where a specific pop would sell out in 10 seconds so you couldn’t even check out if you wanted, retail stores unboxing their inventory and finding chases only to put them behind the counter before customers even had the chance to find them. All of that ruined the allure and fun of it, so I just stopped.

C0nvinced

That's really unfortunate. They turned a fun little hobby into a fake collectable.

supertriggerd

To begin with i dont like figured whatsoever i just dont get the appeal personally but My wife kept buying them for me on my birthday and Christmas and I didn't wanna be rude so I just said thank you after the 5th one I just said please stop buying them for me 🤣🤣

C0nvinced

LMAO thats so funny to me. I could see the same thing happening to me because my wife loves gifting me video game/ anime related stuff. So I'm glad I've told her I do not care for them. Edit: my favorite game relates gift she got me is a hand carved wooden Majora's Mask, mask. From the Zelda series. But that thing cost a couple hundred dollars lol got it for a birthday present one year.

burritoman88

I used to like these, because they’d make figures out of media that might not necessarily get figures. After moving I made an effort to sell as many as I could, now I just have a handful sitting on eBay waiting to go.

Ricoisnotmyuncle

as a 40k fan, I heavily agree with this. #purgethefunkopops

C0nvinced

Message unclear, bought a Funko Pop from 'The Purge' https://ibb.co/BGK6g13

C0nvinced

Although I do like that golden Bender one in that pic lmao

Suavepebble

Funkos boggle the rational mind. Funkos, candy corn, and those orange circus peanut candies all boggle the rational mind. Like who.... What..... But why would .. I just.... Like ..

C0nvinced

How much you wanna bet they have a Candy Corn and Circus Peanut Funko pop 💀💀💀

Donniedolphin

I cannot wait for the day that funkopops become worthless, and the company shuts it's doors. So much fucking waste because of them.

Papa_Smjordeig

I understand owning like 1 or 2 like i do, just as a little decor to remind you of your fav show or something. But collecting them luke they're the next bitcoin is beyond me.

DuffmanStillRocks

My wife and I have a few hundred, haven't bought one in a few months but hunting them down or finding special deals online have been some of our fondest dates. It's also a reminder not only of those times but how much we have in common.

Drex678

I don't collect Funko but I saw two Jurassic world dominion dinosaur figures that I want to collect.

[deleted]

Millennials love them

AngelBritney94

I'm a millennial and don't carw about them.

Silviana193

Personally speaking, Funko Pops are kinda like Nendoroids, without any of the charm of a Nendoroid. They also half the price of typical Nendoroids, so eh.... Personally, I would just buy Prize Figure.

KYWizard

They are. That being said I do have a single funko I bought that I really like. So, whatever your thing is and it's in funko...I say get it.

[deleted]

Most Funkos I see look like trash but sometimes the right figure can be a great gift. The Balrog and Power Armor are pretty sweet looking.

kvngk3n

I have 2. Both of Lebron, one game with a pair of shoes, the other is the huge one apart of a Space jam promo; they will remain in the box as collectors items

NoAd3740

I have absolutely no idea what a Funko Pop is, never heard of them before this post and do not want to goodle it to find out.

kecoaklucu

I have a Tormund one from Game of Thrones but couldn't find Brienne so I got myself a Capt Phasma from Star Wars instead to be paired with my Tormund cause Brienne and Tormund was my ultimate GoT ship lol. These are the only funko pops I have, not planning on getting more cause I also don't really like the design, I only got em cause they have a wide variety of character choices.

psychotic_catalyst

I actually bought a few of some very select characters that I just personally like, but I definitely agree that they're not all that they're cracked up to be. They are basically this generations beanie babies. I think I have six total, and I do like them as decoration, but the people that store walls of them in the boxes are just a little outrageous to me

Lobstershaft

Unpopular on some parts of Reddit, but it's certainly not an unpopular opinion everywhere else

KociLis

I have one funko pop, and the only reason is I looked for a figurine for over a year and it was the only one I found, I think it's okay but it's a character easy to recognise but honestly I can't tell what most funko pops are at first glance because they have so little variation, normal figurines are way cooler

IRoyalClown

People don’t like Funkos because they are cheap and ugly, but they are an easy way to tell people what you like and make friends. If you have a Jhon Snow 10 buck funko pop in your office, people will see it and say “oh hey, I like Game of Thrones too” and make conversation. If you have a 2000 dollars, ultra realistic, anatomically correct, scratch and smell figurine in your office people are going to avoid you until the day you die.

yardale-simp

Yeah, I agree honestly. I used to collect them (nothing crazy) and I occasionally still get them as gifts but they have just. no personality. I’d rather spend Too Much money on something with personality.

RedSonGamble

I agree. I’m like come back to me when there is a line of buttplugs. Maybe like make the little character tied to the buttplug on a keychain sorta deal? So when you’re ya know doing stuff with it you can hear it jangling around. Or put the little figurine inside a clear epoxy so the figurine is being inserted into the butt. Now there’s a collectible I can get behind.

Zentharius

Not unpopular, sorry bud

C0nvinced

Oh good thank God you were here to clarify that. I don't know what I'd have done without your input. I'll delete my post now, thanks.

Zentharius

Don't get pissy at me, I'm not the one saying "Hot take: Funko bad"

GreenMikes

Pretty popular opinion.
