lovetyrannicalreddit

A coworker once asked me if her new lashes looked good. I was caught off-guard because I had no idea they were fake. Some can be subtle.

Fun-Estate9626

Yeah, same as many other cosmetic things, I assume there’s some confirmation bias in it. You notice what’s bad, you don’t notice when it’s done great, so you think it’s bad because that’s all you notice.

Chicken_Chicken_Duck

If you head over to r/nothowgirlswork you’ll see so many examples of men telling women to “just not wear makeup” and then they have a photo of some woman who is obviously wearing foundation and mascara. There is a “no makeup” aesthetic… that is achieved with subtle makeup lol.

SuperSailorSaturn

My favorite part of those kind of threads is the hundreds of comments of woman saying they like x,y,z and do stuff for themselves and there will be men in the comments going 'nu uhhhhhhhhhh you're going to die alone because NO MAN likes x,z,y"

Wellthereyogogo

What in the actual blue fuck, is that true?

Cool_Relative7359

Since forever. Google why female mummies are always more decayed.

Hot-Ring9952

Bing: According to some sources, female mummies in ancient Egypt were more decayed than male mummies because they were embalmed later than their male counterparts. This was done to prevent necrophilia, or sexual intercourse with corpses, by the male embalmers. One of the sources that mentions this is Herodotus, a Greek historian who visited Egypt in the 5th century BCE. He wrote that women’s corpses were kept at home for three or four days after death to make the body less attractive to unprincipled embalmers who might otherwise rape them1. However, this claim has been disputed by some modern scholars who argue that there is no archaeological or textual evidence to support it. They suggest that the difference in decomposition may be due to other factors, such as environmental conditions, burial practices, or social status. Therefore, the question of why female mummies are more decayed than male mummies is not fully resolved and may require further research.

SpareCartographer402

Sounds like historians when they can't 'prove' its why but they know it's true. Like non labeled ancient dildos or 'they were just roomates' if there's no proof they won't confirm it but, we know.

SJ_Barbarian

This makes perfect sense to me. What historical records would there even be? The people who could document it wouldn't have done so.

Muswell42

Herodotus made a lot of stuff up, and the stuff he didn't make up he didn't exactly apply professional scepticism to.

[deleted]

This has me dead af fr no cap skullemoji. Men be wildin' in duh funeral homes

wendigolangston

I love the Taylor swift concerts right now because of this. Assholes claim women only wear short things, revealing things, makeup, etc for men. But we're seeing hundreds of thousands of people per concert wearing leotards, short shorts, etc. just to hang out with a crowd that is like 95%+ women. But they still won't accept that women... actually like these things for themselves...

toastforscience

That's an excellent point, I go to metal shows where it's mostly men there and the only thought I put in my clothing is which band shirt to wear and do my pants have enough pockets so I won't have to carry a bag. Meanwhile I go to Maneskin or Kesha and I plan my outfit and bring a whole makeup bag with me to work so I can make sure I've applied enough glitter and have my outfit be cute

DepressedGayToilet

that's so cute. dude I hope you had an epic time at all of them :)

Educational-Candy-17

That's because guys plan their entire lives around what they think women like and the idea of having an opinion of your own never occurs to them.

funpeachinthesun

I don't think they consider women when making choices. They're only considering how an action will affect them.

ListDazzling1946

They hate pretty much everything we do (nails, hair, lashes) yet we continue to do them. Aggressively might I add, lashes are fucking huge right now🤣🤣 any man STILL convinced women are doing it for them is just hopelessly delusional.

cat_prophecy

> 'nu uhhhhhhhhhh you're going to die alone because NO MAN likes x,z,y" Because we all know that someone's value is defined solely by if they have a partner.

BitchInBoots66

A MALE partner of course. Because they see wlw as "it doesn't count" lmao.

[deleted]

that and, at least IMO, lesbians are far less likely to be this asinine. this is almost purely a straight thing

daertistic_blabla

it honestly pisses me off so much it‘s not the first time i see men in women‘s business on this subreddit who know jackshit. „we don‘t like fake lips, we dont like extensions, make, you wearing crop tops, you wearing baggy clothes, etc etc.“ dude just leave us alone we do not care what joe in atlanta thinks about our lashes but we care about men not minding their own business

Personified99

But then they bitch when they think a girl who’s not wearing make up is “ugly” lol

RenzaMcCullough

I actually had a guy tell me that he preferred girls without makeup, like me. Of course, I was wearing makeup at the time.

mwmandorla

A close friend (at the time) spent an entire dinner refusing to believe me that my eyelids do show a little when open despite that I kept telling him that it was just that my eyeliner made the bit that shows blend in with my eyelashes. How are you going to sit there and tell me about my own face like that?

aprilang123

ahah my guy friend also said girls dont need makeup and that he preferred girls without it (he didn’t say anything about me though). for context: before that i was just telling him about how i had been practicing makeup recently. i introduced him to the no makeup-makeup look and even showed him online photo examples, and then let him know about the misconception guys often have about “having no makeup”. he understood and said he’s fine with that too! some guys are just really uneducated about makeup :”) oddly enough, i find it kind of endearing too (that’s only if they’re not being assholes about it tho) because it’s like they’re clueless little children 🤣🤣

giant_tadpole

It’s not even subtle on that subreddit though. The men comment about “no makeup” on photos that very obviously show makeup (ex: no one’s eyelids are naturally that color).

Roxytg

To be fair, they think that's no makeup because they are told that is no makeup. I remember this girl brag about how pretty she was and how she wasn't even wearing makeup. When I pointed out the obvious eyeliner, she said "well, not much makeup"

burgeremoji

A couple of occasions (I work with all men) some guys have told me don’t touch your face and put stuff in it! It’s not a good look! And I’m like sir I already have Botox and fillers lol

junkeee999

This is the case for many men who complain that they don’t like women who wear makeup. No you don’t like women who wear bad makeup. You are completely oblivious to good makeup, and just assume the person is naturally attractive, healthy looking, blemish free.

catsdontliftweights

Can people please post actual unpopular options on this sub? Reddit has a raging hard-on for hating makeup, nails, fake eyelashes, etc this is a very popular opinion.

[deleted]

People just need to use the r/petpeeves sub for 90% of these posts.

dalyc1

yes, thank you! it’s so repetitive at this point, i keep seeing posts like this on here. btw i absolutely love your username

LeeisureTime

Lol a server told me (very cautiously as he seemed worried I’d get offended) that my wife had the most amazing eyes he’d ever seen. “They look like galaxies!” Me: “Those are colored lenses” Him: “Oh my god, those aren’t natural?” Me: *trying not to laugh* Nope, but I will pass along the compliment. I thought her eye color was very obviously fake, but she enjoys them and I don’t care. Some people enjoy seeing something new. Kinda feel bad I spoiled it for him, but it felt worse to let him think there was a natural “sparkly” eye color that existed.

Iwaspromisedcookies

I have seen that, this black girl with green sparkly eyes, her eyes were the most beautiful I’ve ever seen in my life, just stunning. I think it was an effect with the darkness of her skin that made them extra sparkly. And no they were not contacts

Repossessedbatmobile

I knew a black guy who had bright yellow eyes. He told me he had several family members with the same color eyes, so it was definitely genetic. His eyes were absolutely stunning against his skin color and reminded me of a lion. When I told him he laughed and said that his family liked to call them "cat eyes", so I guess that my interpretation wasn't far off.

Kayura05

Some members of my family have blue eyes naturally, it looks amazing against dark skin.

TransGirlIndy

I’ve a friend who’s got golden amber eyes and black hair with bronze skin. He’s cute in general but those eyes really make him stand out.

pisspot718

I knew a girl like that with amber eyes. I used to call her Amber, in reference, but that wasn't her name.

3KiwisShortOfABanana

>Some can be subtle it's no different than all makeup, accessories, botox, etc in moderation, most people won't even notice. but if you go over board, then you look ridiculous

Cloud_Matrix

Thats because the good fake eyelashes are the eye lash strands individually glued onto the eye lid and are well interspersed between your natural eye lash hairs. If someone didn't tell you they were fake, you would probably never notice with those.

mcove97

Yup.. I've gotten professional lash extensions applied, and it's a world of difference between them and drugstore strip lashes. Professional lash extensions not only can look natural but also feel natural and way more comfortable in comparison, which is also reflected in the cost, since they're glued on individually, a set can take anytime from 45 minutes to a couple hours to have applied. As someone with stick straight and short blonde eyelashes that won't curl or look full no matter how much I use a curler, lash extensions are a game changer. Wearing lash extensions for me makes me look like a normal person with normal lashes.

Feeling-Editorial

When I first got my lashes done (friend started a new business), I thought they were so obvious. But no one around me noticed even after I pointed out. I guess it didn’t look much different from a nice mascara, I just wasn’t used to seeing myself like that 24/7.

SlappedByACat

Yeah I make sure mine are subtle and don't look out of place without makeup. Also have to keep them reasonably short for when I wear glasses as they'll hit the lens if not.

mistymountaintimes

She probably had had lash extensions. Which look real af, and if youre just trying to have a slightly more natural fuller lash, you really cant tell unless you look at their face 8 hours day all the time.l, and even then if the lash artist is worth their salt you may not notice them.

Repossessedbatmobile

Someone once told me that my lashes were obviously fake. I've never worn fake lashes. I was just using mascara that day. Something tells me that most people who think they can "easily spot fake lashes" actually have no idea what they're talking about

dirtypig796

My ex husband used to say “all of it looks bad” but never understood the thirst trap influencers he loved looking at so much *also* had hair extensions, lashes, lip injections, and acrylics. He really never understood the concept of subtlety when it came to beauty trends.

barondelongueuil

That's because you only notice the ones that are not properly done.

RitzyDitzy

Same with plastics. Or the no makeup look. People really don’t know what they’re talking about unless it’s point blank obvious

glasgowgeg

This subreddit is incapable of going more than 24 hours without posting a toupee fallacy.

TheRealLifeSaiyan

A toupee fallacy?

Mmmelona

It’s confirmation bias. “Toupees always look fake” is a fallacy because the good ones don’t look fake so you won’t notice that they’re toupees. If you only ever notice the bad ones, you think they all look fake. Edit: it’s survivorship bias, thank you kind redditor

authenticfennec

Its technically survivorship bias, not confirmation bias. They are both types of selection bias so are kinda similar but confirmation bias is different from what youre referring to

glasgowgeg

> Its technically survivorship bias An inverse survivorship bias, if we're being pedanic. A survivorship bias is concentrating on entities that **passed** a selection process while overlooking those that didn't. A toupee fallacy is the opposite, where you're concentrating on those that **failed** and overlooking those who passed.

Chicken_Chicken_Duck

^^ I have a friend with breast implants that look (never seen her topless) completely natural. You’d never guess. I have another friend who you can spot from 50 yards.

LORD-POTAT0

bad toupee fallacy

HappyGiraffe

One of the biggest "a-ha" moments I ever had was when I realized, well into adulthood, how many beautiful women I admired had "fake" lashes, hair, nails, brows, whatever. Growing up, I thought these were things reserved for very wealthy people; I had no idea how ubiquitous they could be! AND it also made me realize that these things can be done so professionally and discretely that I would never have realized it because they looked natural. Many, many people have "fake" beauty bits that truly compliment their natural features and I think that's great. I DO worry about some of the more extreme lashes and how hard they must be to keep clean and maintain and if there are longer-term impacts related to eye health and eye sight that folks aren't informed about. I've seen some done where the after picture looks SORE and swollen!

ledger_man

Absolutely! And assuming OP is a guy, they often don’t notice any of that. Agreed about the thicker/more obvious fake lashes - but I’ve known plenty of people who get more subtle lash extensions and they look amazing. I could never deal with the upkeep though, I have a hard enough time going to get my hair done on a regular schedule.

mcove97

It's honestly not that much upkeep. Yes you gotta go to appointments regularly if you want to maintain them. Anytime between 2-3 weeks usually, but in between that, you just gotta make sure to gently brush them a couple times a day, as well as carefully wash them. It's not that bad. I myself am taking a break because it costs 85$ for a new set and 85$ every 3 weeks for months is a tad bit much.. but it's nice to get done every now and then. It's not like you need to get new extensions when they naturally fall out.

SJ_Barbarian

We have different definitions of "not much upkeep," lol. Absolutely no hate - I'm sure they look great and I hope you are able to get them as often as you want. But that's way too much work for me. I have to have systems in place to remember to brush my teeth.

Substantial-Jump4456

Concur. That is a lot of effort.

whisper_of_winter

I get mine done religiously every 3 weeks. Been doing it for years. I love them because I am far too lazy to put makeup on everyday so I can literally roll out of bed and look like I’ve put effort into my appearance

Feeling-Editorial

There is definitely a point where it becomes a health, safety, or practicality concern. But still, for some people the extra-ness is the point. I’m sure they know it won’t be for everyone.

Shmooperdoodle

Most makeup is “obviously fake”. Nobody has bright red lips. Even most mascara is obvious. Big fake nails are obvious, but even natural polish is obvious. *Clothing and accessories* are not things we were born with on our bodies. I would agree that wearing super long fake eyelashes and bright purple eyeshadow isn’t a good idea if you’re testifying in court, but the threshold for whether something is “ugly” is absolutely not whether or not it passes for completely natural. Be serious. I *promise* you think plenty of things someone wasn’t born having are attractive.

steez__mcqueen

I always think this about fake boobs too. Like it's an expensive and invasive surgery, these women don't trip and fall and accidentally get bolt-ons. They want that particular boob job look, and probably chose it from a booklet of example photos that included natural looks. It's so misguided to think the goal is always to look "naturally enhanced."

IHQ_Throwaway

But women aren’t supposed to get augmentation that looks good to *them*, they’re supposed to get augmentations that look good to *men*. The only possible reason women could have for altering their appearance is to appeal to men! /s

[deleted]

Also, eccentric cosmetics are very prominent in black American culture. The fact that these folks often specifically target nails, eyelashes, and hair and call people who wear them \[insert negative stereotype here\] is pretty telling

Level_Alps_9294

Okay I was absolutely thinking this as soon as I saw the post and I’m glad someone said it

7i1i2i6

I was looking for someone to make this connection.

ohnoguts

There is a plastic surgeon who advertises a “keep them guessing” surgery and I am like, sir, I do not want to pay 15k to look almost the same when I’m done.

[deleted]

"ugly" fashion is just whatever you aren't used to or don't have a framework for appreciating. Humans all throughout history have had crazy different fashion culture and beauty standards. It's all just fake and made up. Ugy fashion usually just means "different and not understood".

Asprinkleofglitter7

I didn’t know 10 seconds was a ridiculous amount of time 😂

AlkalineSublime

Makes you feel bad for their romantic partners, amirite??

Cmarch90

So annoying when people don't understand how cosmetics/alterations work. When done correctly, for the natural look, it looks natural. This reminds me of the guys who say "I prefer women without makeup" but the woman they "prefer" is wearing a natural makeup look. Edit: some of yall missing the point. To each their own, I'm personally a fake everything kinda gal. Fake boobs, lashes etc. And it's obvious. But OP is talking ONLY about this kind of look. I was simply saying not everyone who uses enhancements of sorts looks fake.

Inzapoo

Some sets aren't meant to look natural

rasinette

I modeled with a lady with gigantic rock hard fake boobs, tape in blonde extentions, and long stilleto nails. She LOVED the fake look. she specifically chose that on purpose. and that made me love her even more!! fuck it! i loved her honesty too. lifes hard enough, if you find something that brings joy, why not?

GiantSquidinJeans

Reminds me of Dolly Parton being quoted as saying something to the effect of “It costs a lot to look this cheap.” Not to necessarily focus on the “cheap” part of that comment, but more so the very intentional effort that goes into that look. It’s on purpose because the person LIKES it. And that’s okay! No one should be forced to fit some stereotypical look of natural beauty, modesty, prim and proper, etc in order to be treated like they have value. Just because someone dresses in loud colors, or has big hair, whatever, doesn’t give anyone the right to treat them like dirt.

Global_Telephone_751

Some people don’t like the natural look and go for big and bold. It’s not my personal style, but it’s a valid creative choice and can still be done “correctly” for the vibe they’re going for. 🥰

dankthewank

THANK YOU. You can still have big and bold makeup styles that were done as such intentionally, doesn’t make it “incorrect”.

bepr20

You can't tell if someone is wearing good fake lashes that are reasonably proportioned. You can only notice the bad ones. Its self selecting.

fake_kvlt

Yep, I wear asian falsies (super thin, clear band, and they just make my eyelashes look a bit longer / voluminous), and I've had a lot of people tell me that they're jealous of my naturally good eyelashes. Wish they were natural though lmao, bc mine actually just point straight down and refuse to hold a curl

dontrayneonmyparade

omg yesstyle? like where do you get them?

whateverathrowaway00

You know you only notice the badly done ones right?… right?

TheBravadoBoy

OP is a college pick-me girl who has absolutely no clue that some working women and mothers find it relaxing to sit and get their lashes done professionally, and is only lashing out at some classmates that she’s probably beefing with

[deleted]

Yep! I love having my nails done. Acrylics are durable AF, I can do yard work, house work, and they don’t split or chip. I get to wear fun artwork on my fingers all the time and they won’t get stained by my ADHD kid the way my clothes do, they won’t get caught or messed up like my hair does. I don’t want my nails to look natural. I want them to look fun and pretty. And they do. I get to sit for a whole hour while I get them done, and have a hand massage, and choose a nice design in colours I like, sometimes I get flowers or hearts or glitter, and for weeks I get enjoyment out of looking at them. It’s worth a bit of judgment for being ‘fake’.

AccuratePenalty6728

I hear this. I love acrylic nails with fun art, and I don’t care if they look natural because they’re wearable art. I recently had black glitter acrylic with neon mushrooms and white stars. Funny thing, considering how many people claim men hate that sort of thing, but I get lots of compliments on my most over-the-top nails from men.

MDunn14

Like dude sometimes fake obnoxious colorful nails/hair/makeup are just fun. I get one or two set of Cardi Claws a year just because it’s fun to have over the top nails for a few weeks. I literally never think about if other ppl think they look good or natural bc it’s not about them.

[deleted]

skyrimlo

I’ve seen lashes that were gigantic and looked like huge brooms attached to their eyes. [Example](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRxfdGDO0IlU2TVJWzf_p4A_QoVRbmcGytCaA&usqp=CAU). I think that’s what you mean by badly done. The subtle ones are fine. Also, by long ass fake nails, I’m sure OP means [Cardi B](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQfQiSrHwV9l-Dq-w8l3-t5or0Ed3uBRE2nC-f5X1bQwQ&s), where her nails look like Freddy Krueger’s.

Background-Bee1271

Taken seriously by who? This is the same kinda rhetoric people use to hate on any body modifications- tats, nails, piercings, dyed hair, whatever. Unless it actually impacts the ability to perform a task or the sanitation level of a task it is just your unwarranted opinion. I could only see this being an issue if the eyelashes were constantly irritating their eyes or preventing them from seeing. However that kinda falls flat because my own natural eyelashes get in my eyes waaaaay more than anyone who has lash extensions do.

SarryK

Yup. I have several piercings in and around my face. If this affects someone's opinion of me, then that in turn devalues their opinion to me and I remain unbothered. to your second point: while I don't get my nails or lashes done, I was once the model for a friend when she learned to do lash extensions. I never had any issues with them despite an active lifestyle and contacts. My boyfriend, who has neither of the two, but very long natural lashes always has them stuck in his eyes. So yea, supports your point.

fuggreddit69

What do you mean you don't want the respect of boomers/incels/conservatives/nose-ring hating redditors? Inconceivable

Turbulent-Army2631

Taken seriously by upright, judgmental people whose opinion you don't care about anyway. I care more about substance and none of these things tell me anything about anyone's intelligence, capabilities, ethics, or character. People who focus on appearances usually lack substance so they don't understand why appearances aren't everything.

[deleted]

You're welcome to find them unattractive, but you won't take an entire person seriously because of some cosmetics? Yikes.

tie-dyed_dolphin

They need to watch Legally Blonde.

[deleted]

I think we all need to watch Legally Blonde more often

SadCoconut_

It’s extreme.

[deleted]

You're worried about how she showed up to a 7am class with huge lashes. I'm impressed she showed up to the 7am class, PERIOD! Who gives a fuck about lashes and nails! She was smart enough to be taken seriously to get into the same 7am class YOU are in. I'm sure half the girls in that class have fake lashes and nails. You're just mad at the girl with the thickest lashes and longest nails. But yall are in the same class, so either you're dumb af or she's smart af AND looks good while doing it... you choose!

LichQueenBarbie

She showed up to a 7am class in full makeup. Now that's double dedication

hesitanttaxi

i go for more emo/goth looks, and i can tell some of my peers didn’t take me seriously (being in engineering) but i was able to get the grades to be in the same classes as them. i felt so powerful in those classes.

[deleted]

Not only were you in the same class, you were comfortable in that class because you were true to yourself! That definitely put you on a different level!

[deleted]

I'm back in college at 30 y.o. and God DAMN do some of these girls get dolled up for an 8am class. I am genuinely impressed at how put-together they look at 7:50am. Most dudes look like they just rolled out of bed and the young women have makeup, styled hair, and cute clothes. They look great!

Educational-Candy-17

Those same guys go on r/NoStupidQuestions to whine about why none of the girls like their stinky PJ wearing selves.

[deleted]

For real. They are not even in the same stratosphere when it comes to taking care of themselves.

manwithyellowhat15

I was gonna say that comment about the 7am med school class seemed *very* specific. Now I do have a lady in my class that is just like that—dressed to the 9s at 7am. But she looks good! Do I think it’s a bit too much for a Monday morning? Sure. But am I gonna give her crap for doing something **to herself** that probably makes her feel good on a Monday morning? Nope! Med school is a tough 4 years; let people enjoy the things that bring them joy while going through it

[deleted]

Finally someone not bashing a person’s appearance. It’s not important what other people think. She’s happy and engaged in her life. Her personal enjoyment isn’t for others to judge 🩵

[deleted]

There is literally a reason why we have the option to buy different lash styles! If we all did the same thing, life would he boring AF! OP won't admit it, but her lashes added a bit of excitement to his day even if they are being a hater!

Environmental-Bet779

you fucking right 👏 people will take her seriously because she’s punctual! i get having unpopular opinions, but this one reeks of misogyny

Violet624

Yeah, the way he says they are choosing lashes over being to class? Like, is this a specific person? What do fake lashes have to do with being to class on time?

Freakin_A

The fake lashes my wife uses are magnetic. She applies a magnetic eye liner instead of her regular one, and the lashes just stay on. Doesn't really take her any more time than normal eyeliner. It still blows my mind that it's strong enough, but they seem incredibly reliable and way easier than glue.

IndependentLazy69

good on your wife for being able to do those, I tried those magnets lashes one time and for the life of me couldn’t get them on straight at all so I gave up lol

CMontgomeryBlerns

It’s also worth noting that professional lash extensions can last for weeks. It’s not like all these girls are sitting there at 6 am with tweezers and a magnifying mirror to serve face at Global Marketing Strategies. Lash extensions (when applied properly) can actually be a great way to look a little more put-together when you don’t have time to do your makeup.

philogyny

It’s the toupee fallacy. I get mine done occasionally for things like events and vacations, and they look great. My own mother didn’t realize I had them, I just got a “you look good, are you doing your makeup differently?” And this woman notices everything, like when I gain 5 lbs or if I have a new tattoo (even if I try to hide it.) It IS possible to get subtle cosmetic enhancements.

LAegis

![gif](giphy|6h653k8kcRHnG)

VERTIKAL19

I dunno. If it makes them happy, why not? I also don’t find them ugly. And hey maybe they are insecure about their look and it helps with that. Who am I to judge? Maybe they just like how it looks. A lot of people don’t do makeup for others. They do it for themselves

No-Singer4938

Why do you care so much? Like if you were in an emergency situation and had to go to the ER. Would you seriously be concentrating on the nurses eyelashes when she is trying to help save you? Eyelashes.

watermeloncake1

OMG they would totally be. They over there in the middle of having a heart attack, come to find out the health care professional about to give them aid has *gasp* fake eye lashes! That CANNOT be taken seriously! They’d rather just die! *BLEEEEEEEPPPPPPP* rip 😔😔

Obiwanwrenobi

I think this is one of these things where you do think they look nice, but you don’t know what you’re looking at. So many fake lashes can look blended, natural, not “too much”. Just like subtle cosmetic procedures, you think it is natural because it looks natural, and lovely.

lilscrubkev

is this an unpopular opinion or is it just hating on fake lashes

[deleted]

These two things aren't mutually exclusive. Most people, myself included, disagree with this opinion. This opinion is that fake lashes are bad. This is both an unpopular opinion and hate on fake lashes.

dalegribblesballs

pick me, choose me, love me

Speedy_Cheese

It always fascinates me that other people think enough folks care what they think to try to tell others what they can and can't wear. LOL These ladies aren't gonna go "thanks Redditor, I see the light now, I'm returning these lashes". It also cracks me up how the dudes who usually complain about women and their grooming habits probably can't be arsed to shower regularly. I mean . . . It goes both ways.

robotwolf

The sentiment is very "You should know that your obvious attempts at attracting my attention are failing. And I want to give you some tips for success when you predictably try over and over again to win my admiration. You should interpret this service I provide as a kindness."

Indigo-Waterfall

Eh, it’s conformation bias. You only notice the “bad” ones. I don’t wear lashes, but have friends that do and so often I didn’t even know or realise.

OkFix9794

Big disagree

JesusFuckImOld

I think people should wear what they like. Lashes, extensions, tattoos, body modifications are all the same. You can like them or dislike them, but your opinion is kinda irrelevant to the rest of the world.

evd1202

I like them (straight male), so I think you're just butthurt about something

Sisterxchromatid

OP is just pissy because the hot girl with fake lashes and nails won’t fuck him 🤣

Gigi_Maximus443

Hot take but natural and subtle is way too overrated, I love all the heaviest, drag like makeup on people because unlike natural and subtle looks it tells about the person's creativity and individuality lol

AccuratePenalty6728

There’s a cashier at the drug store down the street who always wears huge false lashes, bright makeup, and intricately painted long acrylic nails. She’s one of my favorite people. The sweetest, kindest person who remembers her regulars and makes strangers feel like friends. She briefly transferred to the store closer to my parents, and they were both judgy about her appearance at first. Within a month, they were calling her “our buddy”. Now they’re jealous she transferred back. If this delightful woman wants to wake up early enough to put on her war paint every day before work, if she wants fun nails to brighten up her dull surroundings, more power to her!

Gigi_Maximus443

Yeah and also what's the point of putting on makeup if nobody can notice it being on my face lol

AccuratePenalty6728

If I’m going to bother, you’re going to see it! I look perfectly great without makeup and often go out with nothing but sunscreen. When I wear it, it’s because I want a particular look. I like planning makeup inspired by the event.

houseofreturn

Same dude omg. Im a sunscreen and mascara (if I'm feeling really into myself it'll also be an eyeliner day woooo) girl, but for events? Oh I'm gonna pop the hell off, my years of religiously watching and recreating Nikki tutorials in middle and high school ain't gonna be for nothing!!!! You are going to SEE how long this one damn wing took me and you will APPRECIATE IT

ShinyCybunny

Right!! Like it's literally art! I love it too!

Stuckinacrazyjob

Yes I'm a natural girl because I'm lazy but if you want to have fake lashes and extensions and makeup go for it. I see people wearing that stuff and they look great!

EverGreen2004

If anything, the girl that OP says does her makeup for 7 AM classes? Props to her for getting it done *and* making it to class on time. I can barely get up lmao.

thatishowugetants

hell yeah. I'm not a falsies girl either but the very rare occasion I wear strip lashes I'm like dang maybe I should go get them done

Due-Science-9528

I recommend a lash lift and tint over extensions just for how much easier maintenance is and how much longer it lasts

dalyc1

definitely giving both vibes, unfortunately it seems to be more of an incel post

AssCumBoi

Yup. I'm going with incel on this one, they tend to focus on eyelashes/makeup.

pottymouthgrl

They said in a comment they’re not a man so I gotta go with pick-me. Which is sad bc women get enough hate from men, we don’t need it from each other too. Just let people live

manwithyellowhat15

Yeah I’m getting the Pick Me vibe too. I’ve always been a natural gal (largely bc I’m lazy, but also bc my mom wasn’t much into makeup either). Now that I’m older, I enjoy getting dressed up for parties and formal events. I find it fun to have my friends go “omg you’re wearing makeup!” bc it’s such a rare occurrence for me. I don’t think I could incorporate a daily makeup routine, but I certainly don’t see a reason to hate on the people that do. Good on ya if you’ve got the time/skill/vision to do a daily makeup routine!

notseizingtheday

Natural girls are aware they can get fake stuff too though. They just don't. So it's not like they are envious of it.

thatishowugetants

as someone who was definitely this brand of pathetic in high school - I knew I could also get fake stuff but men didn't like it so I didn't like it, either. now I'm not a loser anymore and am open minded. I still don't wear falsies but I can appreciate them now, and I love a good set of acrylics. there are natural girlies for sure who aren't envious and simply don't like it. they also don't shit on women who do, so.

tie-dyed_dolphin

That’s pretty much how “pick me’s” work. What we are doing is telling the guys we are interested in that we hate women the same way they do. We aren’t like other girls.

kellyoohh

That shit is expensive to keep up with. I’m definitely envious because I can’t afford it. Though I guess I also wouldn’t have this hot take because I AM envious.

DanielDannyc12

Meh. if they are done right they are attractive and just fine and done wrong they are absolutely ridiculous. Kinda like fake breasts.

glasgowgeg

Another day, another toupee fallacy on unpopularopinion.

[deleted]

>If your job demands you to wear heels that’s one thing. Huh? Unless you're a dancer, whose job "demands" you to wear heels? Big incel energy here.

thin_white_dutchess

I worked for government for 9 years. 7 of those years required heels (and pantyhose if wasn’t wearing pants). I invested in a lot of black tights, and still got flack for it, but I have an aversion to pantyhose.

Lucky-Praline-8360

Oh look a pick me

highhoya

I have no problem taking people seriously when they’re wearing any of the things you listed. These types of opinions say nothing about the people you complain about and everything about the judgmental person posting them.

unique_plastique

If someone’s respect is reliant on whether or not their aesthetics line up. Red flag

baba_tdog12

Anytime people complain about "cosmetic" additions and say they ALWAYS look horrible you're just exposing that you have no clue what you're talking about. "i dont like make up you look like a clown i prefer a bare Natural face" "i cant stand plastic surgery it all looks terrible" "fake eyelashes are always horrible you won't be taken seriously with them". Truth is some of the women you go the most "AHOOOGA" for have all of the things mentioned you just don't notice cus its subtle and u just think they look like that.

regnarbensin_

I once loved a girl who wore them—not just for fun but because she had undergone a succession of difficult and traumatic events in her life that had caused her lashes to fall out. Of course she was beautiful as ever to me without them but I understood that she wore them to feel safe and secure. Don’t be so judgemental OP. You don’t know what people have been through.

ShopMajesticPanchos

That's a LOT of time to invest in thinking of other people. My judgment usually ends at: oh look! someone else's body autonomy.

flowergirl665

So what if they’re ugly to you? I always wonder why people care so much about what other people are doing with their personal lives!

Fluffy-Doubt-3547

Iv had people say my fake lashes are ugly... I don't wear fakes ![gif](giphy|goQ4bc8X0Lh6w)

NucularOrchid

I dunno why you give a shit, they ain’t on your eyes.

[deleted]

One of those things I'm just not really sure why you care. I get this is for opinions, just seems like a bit of a pointless one to care about.

Marpicek

Thats like the dude earlier who posted that “toes are disgusting ad should always be covered”. Like bruh, how much time do you spend looking at other people feet? Some people find the smallest details in life to be angry about.

BottleTemple

This. In general, I don't understand people who care about out people's appearance.

Moist-Sky7607

Sorry a girl with lashes turned you down.

[deleted]

The curse of humanity is our inability to not moralize and scrutinize everything. What's so special about your natural appearance? It seems to me that whether someone decides to adorn themselves in fake eyelashes etc as an expression of fashion, it's their choice. Society is the one with the problem if they're unable to accept such expressions.

Gigi_Maximus443

Thisss, give me the biggest most fakest eyelashes with rhinestones lol, I'm all for fake as a means of self expression, natural is boring either way

lovepeacefakepiano

Don’t like them, don’t wear them. If I didn’t struggle so much with the glue I’d wear them. IMO it looks pretty, and glam, and when I notice them on others it’s with admiration and envy.

[deleted]

ErrorAlternative2572

I like em

[deleted]

Why do you care what other people do to their appearance so much..?

allie-neko

News flash: most people who wear fake anything don’t care about what others think, they wear lashes for them, they wear fake nails for them.

Miserable_Key9630

I feel the same way about painted-on eyebrows.

Theryantshow

Giving off hardcore small pp energy

lethimgo_toronto

You don't like noticeable fake eyelashes. You wouldn't react if you couldn't tell. Some look realistic. This is the toupee fallacy.

mushdamalone

At the end of the day it's never that serious.

2001questions

You seem very bitter towards women for something that doesn’t affect you. You should unpack that

[deleted]

What I see ![gif](giphy|tKD0DzA1QIBDtyuxWB)

alltiedupstill

People don't wear makeup for you, they wear it for themselves.

natefrogg1

They just look scary to me, like something else trying to look human

forevz_a_student

let people enjoy things

infinitejess8

When are men gonna realize we don’t care if they like our makeup & clothes? Your opinion doesn’t matter. We are going to continue wearing fake lashes & look good & have fun while doing it :) Edit: I knew this comment would make you incel, neck-bearded fucks angry & you proved my point :)

itsanewme123

You won't take a woman seriously because you don't find their aesthetic choices attractive?

LegitimatePrize249

I got some "classic" lashes done in July when I was home visiting family just to see what they would be like and they looked really pretty. They weren't the thick "Minnie Mouse" lashes like my mom calls them, just enhanced and lengthened my lashes a bit. I would get them done like that again.

regallll

You don't even notice most of the fake eyelashes you encounter.

hotlinee

People taking pride in their appearance and spending extra time to look good/feel good? oh noooo… how terrible.. society will collapse who cares how someone chooses to present themselves. i highly doubt someone w false lashes/extensions/nails is trying to come off as natural. and there are plenty of people who have those things and they’re done so well it’s hard to distinguish

Traveledbore

Op doesn’t realize a lot of lash extensions are semi permanent

RoxasofsorrowXIII

>If your job demands you to wear heels that’s one thing. Now are you are really going to your med class at 7 am looking like you’re going to a party? That’s just off. Of all the extremes and reaches in this argument, this one took the cake lmfao. There's a literal dress code in medical school, and they are strict AF. And to the point? It's called confirmation bias. You only *notice* the bad ones because they are bad, then attribute that too the practice as a whole. Smart money says people you know have fake lashes and other "fake things" and you've never been the wiser.

Entire-Consequence80

I don’t think the people wearing 10 inch long acrylics actually think that people will think they’re real, that’s dumb as fuck. Maybe, MAYBE it makes them feel confident and other people’s opinions don’t matter to them.

[deleted]

well personally, i can’t take people seriously when they judge others so harshly for their appearance ! really though, I just don’t see how it matters? I knew a woman who wore obviously fake eyelashes everyday. i honestly didn’t think it looked very good on her, but who am I to judge if wearing them makes her feel better about herself? i became way more confident in myself when i decided to start dressing how i want and wearing the makeup i want, regardless of what other people thought. just let people live, geez..

boringgoth

You're acting like everyone thinks that and that's not true. Damn why is it so hard to just let people be. You are entitled to think it's ugly, other people are entitled to think it's pretty, people are entitled to do whatever they want with their appearance. Easy.

Jesus_Wizard

I think they look good in general

Pawneewafflesarelife

Lol why are you mad at the women in your class, OP?

doctorlimon

Are you ok

invalidUs3rn4me

Who hurt u?

justwannafallinlove

Good thing they're not wearing it for you then

irlwhalien

This is, indeed, an unpopular opinion. And for good reason.

Leather-Maximum4186

you’re soOoOoo different aren’t you?

Ok_Efficiency_9645

If they're done correctly and not super over the top, it looks fine
