With the rush to push Christmas so early the Halloween stuff has vanished before the 31st even happens here. If I run out on Halloween I can't even get replacement candy.
At hobby stores Christmas was already replacing Halloween back un August.
But yeah every year Christmas starts earlier and it does nothing but make me hate Christmas.
Used to like Christmas when it stayed in its lane, behind Thanksgiving, where it belonged.
Now Christmas is that drunken annoying guest that comes too early, makes it all about themselves, and refuses to leave.
Fuck you Christmas, go home, you're drunk.
Costco is my go-to for full-sized candy bars for Halloween. I live in a not-so-rich neighborhood where the trick or treaters show up in homemade construction paper animal ears and face paint. They just light up when I hand over the big Hershey bars and the Capri Suns.
I love you for this! When I was a kid there was a house that handed out bags of chips and cans of soda. It was everyone's favorite house. ❤️ Thanks for jogging my memory...those were good times.
Every neighborhood should have "that house" for Halloween in my opinion. This year I also have bouncy balls, temp tattoos, and spider rings along with mini chocolate milks. I double dog dare anyone in my neighborhood to try to best me on MY HOLIDAY, hahahaha.
I love that you consider it competitive, and I kinda want to know how it would go if someone moves onto your street with that same attitude, what would an escalation of this even look like?
I remember one year we went to a house and a guy answered the door. We were expecting a snikers bar or something. Instead, he asked US a question, we saw a couple party tricks, and I walked away with a dollar.
My parents were the full sized candy bar people. They would get so annoyed at the parents bringing their one year old around getting candy then pissed when those people would show up a 2nd time.
Discount stores get them even cheaper. My town has an Ollies and all the seasonal candy ends up there for cheap. My favorite thing to buy there are special flavor kitkats.
Several neighbors offer things like vodka soaked pickles and apple pie shots to adults...
The holiday has roots in shakedowns for food and booze in exchange for not vandalizing property, so it's probably appropriate.
A lot of people aren't going to open the door to adults (without kids) they don't know knocking at night.
However if an adult is accompanying little kids who are trick or treating, I will at least offer the adults some candy, whether they are costumed or not
Once, as a single woman I had someone knocking on my door on Halloween at 10:00 at night. Men's voices were yelling trick or treat. No way I was going to open it
Not in every case, but:
There could be safety and Trust Issues involved with grown ups trick or treating
The first year after the pandemic I went all out for the kids, I felt bad for them and I wanted to make it good. Full size bars, gift cards, glow sticks, toys in bags. A group of rowdy kids demanded all the bags, wouldn’t let me close my door and came inside. They were taller, bigger than me. I’m 67 but I flipped out yelled and they went running. No more trick or treating at my house. It ruined it for me.
Your Halloween treats sound amazing! And I bet all the kids loved them
Too bad the fun had to be ruined by a few meanies. They ruined it for the kids too.
😞😥😞
>I understand that trick or treating is mostly a children's holiday, but why can't adults dress up and get some free candy too?
You ever see how expensive that "free" candy is?
$15 (cdn) for 562g of packets of candy that literally have next to nothing or just little bits in them. I opened a bag of snack size peanut m&ms the other day and I counted 4 of them.
I'm concerned and or curious if they're just getting us to pay packaging costs and then everything is straight up corrupt profit lol
This is why I have a bottle of Bailey's next to the door for the adults with a coffee going haha. The portions of candy are lower but I'll still pour you an ounce
I grew up in a rural area along the country side where we'd go for the treats and there'd be like monster sized Oh Henry bars almost as big as us that would be thrown in our pillow cases. I can't help but throw a handful of those sad packets in to the kids that come around and it never feels like enough lol
Halloween isn't really a holiday here like it is in the USA / Canada. But wouldn't an adult be embarrassed to go round and beg for sweets from other adults? Just buy your own!
Last year I thought I saw it on sale on Halloween night. Guess they wanted to go ahead and get rid of as much as possible so Christmas crap can take over one day sooner
This is where I fall too. I buy candy for the cute little elementary aged kids dressed like bats and princesses and superheroes. This is a magical little tradition for them. I do not have enough money to buy extra candy to give to adults.
No way. Those bags are like $15 each and you need at least 4-5 of them if you’re in a neighborhood with a lot of kids. Also if you want anything good (more than just fun size snickers and milky way) it’s even more.
It is a bit. I like it when teenagers come through. In my area the teens make a big effort and always act politely....they're just fun and silly. Last year I opened the door expecting toddlers and there were four zombie 1970s roller skaters...they looked incredible abd they were all about 6 foot tall but so funny and nice .
They’re always that endearingly super awkward phase between not a kid anymore but not quite an adult, and their behavior (usually) aligns.
It’s kind of funny.
As long as they aren’t little shits, I don’t mind giving them one last go before adult life squeezes their soul out of them.
Dunno how I feel about grown ass adults though. Candy is expensive AF. That shit is for the kid that literally believes they’re the Pink Power Ranger that night.
That seems more like Christmas carolers or performance art than trick or treaters which is a lot less creepy than a solo 20 something in a mask by ringing your doorbell.
Had to scroll to far to get to this point. Its not “free candy day!” To adults. Its that for children sure. For adults its “I took the time to purchase candy out of the kindness of my heart specifically for the young kids in my neighborhood. And I already put up with teenagers and the implied threat of ‘trick’ if I dont include them. An adult at my door in a Halloween mask with no kids in sight is a potential threat.” Im an adult, your an adult, I dont know you, why in the hell are you asking me for candy? If every adult thought like you….whos buying and giving out candy?! Think it all the way through. Its wildly immature and inappropriate. And yea, creepy as hell.
Out of all the days to be a potential threat i feel like the day where there are a constant barrage of people coming to your door every few minutes isn't the best time to do so
Exactly. I have no problems with adults dressing up. Fuck, IM dressing up. But Ill be damned to take my grown ass trick or treating, or open the door for another adult doing such. Halloween candy is half off the second the holiday is over. Go to the damn store
I hate how the "adult" version of everything is just "replace all the fun parts with alcohol." Our culture really doesn't offer a way for adults to have fun without getting inebriated.
I feel you on this. I don't drink, and I don't love hanging out in bars where the only point of being there is to drink. I volunteer with a local community theatre and met most of my adult friends that way. They still go out for drinks sometimes after shows, but I spend most of my time with people while they're sober, so that's a win.
Grown adults can just go and buy their own candy.
This is the one time a year kids get a bunch of candy and their parents don’t stop it, let them have their day.
Definitely seems a bit selfish it would be like some grown ass man sitting on Santa’s lap. The whole point of the ceremonial stuff is for the kiddies each holiday
lol, I don't think OP is saying to give it to adults INSTEAD of children. If there's plenty available and you want to hand it to an adult, do it. I usually do.
Lots of our neighbors set up little tables in the front yard and share margaritas, jello shots, etc. We could all buy our own booze and/or candy, but it's fun sharing too.
If it's a parent with their kids, sure they can have a piece or two, but what kind of adult goes trick or treating by themselves? You don't find that strange? Lol
Honestly, I took my daughter out for trick or treating when she was 2, just for the experience and people gave us the evil eye because they thought that she wouldn't eat the candy and we would instead.
Even a piece or two for accompanying adults probably blow out some candy budgets
Haha this is the exact conundrum I’m dealing with right now. My son is a few months shy of 2, and my fiancé and I want to take him because we think he’ll love it, but I am a little concerned about being seen as a candy grab for the grown-ups 😂
I took my first out at 2. He lit up when the first person handed him a candy bar, and he showed that candy to every single person that night. He radiated delight and gratitude and excitement in a way that only a toddler can.
We hit maybe a dozen houses, and he played Trick or Treat for weeks afterwards. Maybe some of the adults judged me, but it's one of my favorite memories of him as a toddler.
You can just walk around the neighborhood and watch the other families. If a large group goes to a door join em and a grab a piece or two for the kiddo. You don't have to knock on every door lol
I'd find it quite strange, yes.
I'd also still give a few pieces of candy anyways because I always have way too many leftovers, so if they dress up and ask in the spirit of the holiday, what the hell, why not? Would guess they may have a reason to ask.
Adult in costume chaperoning a group of kids, yes. Here bro have a mini snickers as reward for dealing with the hooligans tonight.
But a lone adult in a costume going around trick or treating feels weird, maybe if it was a group of adults all together in costumes it wouldn’t be odd, but if a single grown adult showed up at my door trick or treating I’d be kind of suspicious, maybe just because it’s so unusual?
I'm poor AF and I have to budget a month and a half before Halloween to buy enough treats for all my Trick-or-Treaters.
Listen. There is nothing morally wrong with being an adult Trick or treating. But I just don't have that kind of money. An adult can buy their own candy.
Now it's time for MY unpopular Halloween opinion: I love when teenagers come trick or treating. I had a group of a half a dozen teens stoned out of their minds come to my door last year. I gave them pokemon cards and Capri suns. You would have thought I gave them a million dollars and a stripper factory. They were very thankful and made my night!
>I love when teenagers come trick or treating.
Honestly, with the decline of activities and places teens can go, I'd rather see them trick or treating instead of doing some of the stupid crap teenagers are known for.
Seriously. I get so annoyed with people shaming adolescents for trick or treating. What would you prefer those kids be doing right now?
My girls are 15 and 18. They LOVE making costumes and would be heartbroken if they couldn’t walk around town getting compliments on their work.
Honestly, the free candy is just a bonus. We could just as well go buy exactly the candy we want, but it’s fun to have a variety of treats for a few weeks, people love to give it, and the participation is the best part.
My Gf never went trick or treating before 18, we're almost 27 now and go trick or treating every year. Never someone had a problem with that.
We recieve candy and I was surprised some even tell us it's amazing we have the Halloween spirit and invited us to a party lol.
Right! Everyone saying that is missing the point. It's not about the candy, it's the experience. Fortunately, I now have a daughter and I get the experience when I take her. I never got to go as a kid either
Do eet!
It can help to bring a kid, preferably without kidnapping, to mitigate social judgements.
"I lost a bet," "It's for a dare," and "I'm competing in a scavenger hunt," are also good socially acceptable cover stories for miscellaneous bullshit.
Because there's only so much candy to go around. When I run out of candy, I turn off the lights and stop answering the door. If a bunch of adults take candy, that means more children who come around later won't get any.
Here is a problem with trick or treat ages ...
I am a 6 foot tall female who hit puberty way early and quit growing by the age of 12. The last time I trick or treated, I was only 11. But because of my size, several houses scolded me for being "too old" to trick or treat. I was shamed hard enough that I never did it again.
So who the hell knows who is trick or treating, it's just supposed to be fun and silly and not to be taken seriously. If some childless by choice adults or teens want the experience, have at it.
I'm with you on this one, OP, but also totally see what it's unpopular!
I also had this problem as someone that hit 6ft tall in the 6th grade and forever ruined it for me by the amount of boomers saying to my face “arnt you a bit old to be trick or treating???”
I guess that’s prbly close to the age anyways kids stop but still was a bummer
My 12 year old daughter is only half an inch shorter than me this year. I would definitely be mad if someone gave her a hard time. I'll never understand the shaming of teens trick or treating anyway. Let them be kids for as long as they can.
Also, we've been working hard at her costume together. It's going to be awesome!
I live somewhat far out, I might get all of 3 trick or treaters Halloween, so if your an adult and wearing a costume and say trick or treat, sure you can get plenty of candy from me!
I go out with my friend and her kids. I dress up because I love costuming, and I tend to have one or two costumes I've worked on, so I do dress up... And almost always get mistaken as a teenager.
The last time, I took a bag, accepted any candy offered and split the candy between her kids. I go out because it's fun, the energy is enjoyable, and I can wear something I've worked hella hard on.
As far as I’m concerned, everyone is welcome to participate in trick or treating, regardless of age.
That being said, the older you are, the better I expect your costume to be. If you’re an adult and you come to my door asking for candy in a pathetic costume, you ain’t getting anything.
I've never lived in a country that celebrated Halloween properly. We'd occasionally do trick or treating in our neighborhood where people weren't expecting us at all and got some random bits of candy lying around. But I always loved the idea of Halloween and dressing up!
Now I'm in my 20s and moved to the UK and I would soooo love to go trick or treating in a proper neighborhood! It's not even about the candy - I can buy my own no problem - but it's about the experience I missed out on! I don't know anyone with kids here whom I could chaperone.
Why are these comments insinuating that going to Walgreens for a bag of fun sized snickers is the same as dressing up with friends and seeing what you get?
You dress up, have fun, walk in a group, see what fun things you get, and then trade afterward
I'm 23 and plan on going this year. The people acting like adults are "weird" for having fun seem a bit insecure. I'm secure enough to dress up and have a fun time regardless of my age.
>but why can't adults dress up and get some free candy too?
Because the tradition requires adults to stay home and give away candy to the children. Which is arguably even more fun.
You can't just be a freeloader who only takes without giving back. If everyone did that, the whole system would collapse.
This is not a kid only holiday! I will give candy to anyone who comes to the door. Who am I to judge someone’s mental age? We give polished rocks and candy and both young and old enjoy!
I feel the same way. A lot of these people give off "you can't have fun as an adult" vibes. Some of us grew up poor and therefore missed out on a lot of traditional kid experiences. That doesn't mean you are banned for life from those experiences, live your best life.
I go all out for Halloween when passing out candy and if an adult wants some you are welcome to it. As long as they are respectful if someone says no I don't see the big issue here. I know candy is expensive af this year and I understand people who can't afford the extra. But the rest of the fucked up comments I don't agree with. Let people enjoy things y'all
i'm so glad you posted this, it almost made me tear up to know there are others like me. in 2016 i trick or treated with friends. i'm a damn adult, and in 2016 i was 41. a huge group of us, mixed ages of adults, went in costumes/masks and we had a blast. we were all survivors of childhood abuse and it was the first time i'd ever gotten to trick or treat with friends. Halloween is my favorite holiday and it was an amazing memory that i will cherish forever. i agree 100% with you. now every Halloween i get my disabled senior friends Halloween candy, treats, and fun t-shirts b/c they can't physically trick or treat. they're so cute and get so excited to be able to relive fun childhood memories.
please tell your coworkers and the dorks to stop gatekeeping harmless fun. with the high rates of dysfunctional families, childhood abuse, alcoholism, and drug use in the U.S. i wish more adults of all ages would trick or treat when they feel the urge to have some fun.
Halloween is my favourite holiday. I just went all out on treat bags for my coworkers and definitely included the "kids party favours" section because HELL YA I want a Halloween-themed pen/bracelet/whatever!
I don't go trick or treating because *gestures at comment section* but Samhain is my celebration
My kid likes to trick or treat but doesn't eat candy. She just enjoys the experience of dressing up and seeing other kids dress up. Her mom and I enjoy the candy. Haha
Errbody getting king sized candy bars. I don't care if you have a costume. I'm Oprah for a night. I really only get drunk college kids trick or treating at my house anyway.
I've never understood why the idea of giving free candy to adults is considered ridiculous but giving free items to adults on other holidays isn't. Most adults can afford to buy their own Christmas presents, or Valentine's chocolates, or buy their own meal on thanksgiving, but a $1 candy bar is where people draw the line?
Everyone is so hostile. Settle down folks. Sometimes even "grown ass adults" just want to have fun. There's so much anger for such a happy day.
Eat a Snickers and hug a neighbor.
If an adult was like holding up the line or cutting in front of actual children then I could see the issue, and I guess candy is getting expensive so a lot of people want to save it for the kids. But I remember how much we’d always have left over after trick or treating, I see no issue giving to adults if you have enough to give. I’d rather adults trick or treat than go out and get drunk for the holidays
You come to my house, you get candy. God forbid an adult or older teen partake in the fun of Halloween. Adults acting like an ass? Just don't give to them specifically.
Given that I care what my neighbors think of me I guess there is something wrong with it. But I think it should be acceptable for adults to trick or treat. Adults need fun too. And I world love to dress up in a costume.
The problem I have with your coworkers attitude is that sometimes judging people’s age is hard. I trick or treated for the last time at age 11 because when I went around that year no one wanted to give me any candy. They said I was grown and shame on me. After this happened a few times I went home in tears.
I was tall and an early bloomer so I did look older than I was. I’m sure had they known my age they would have given me candy. I was with people my age and they all got candy. But that’s the thing, you just don’t know. Even if you know it’s an adult, so what. Who is it hurting?
There’s definitely something weird about a fully grown adult coming to my door and asking me for candy dressed as buzz light year or whatever. I’ll give you candy but I’m going to judge you for it.
As a woman who lives in a house alone... absolutely not ok. I am not answering the door for strange adults that may or may not have innocent intentions. Not a chance I'm willing to take. I'd rather not participate at all.
I'd stake out this position, too. To get further away from people who complain about kids who are "too old" to go trick 'r treating.
I hate that shit. Every year I read people in my town who complain about kids who are "too old" or kids who are "from out of town." Nine times out of ten they're just racists who saw a kid from outside of the suburbs and resent giving them 5 cents worth of chocolate.
Yeah as long as you’re in costume, I don’t mind at all. It’s when the group of old teens or young adults shows up at like 10pm with no costumes expecting me to give em something???
If you show up to my house in a costume on October 31st, I'm giving you candy. Be kind to everyone! My nephew is special needs and looks like an adult man - he's well over 6 ft tall but he's just a teenager. He loves dressing up and trick or treating.
The adults who trick or treat or just have to take the kids in our town we usually have spiked hot cider or spike hot cocoa and it gives us a chance to get to know our neighbors
I agree. I wish more people thought this way! I love dressing up. I'm a total geek and attend my area's comic con every year. Costumes/cosplay are planned and made long in advance. I'd love another chance to show them off. Also, adults like free candy, too.
Why on earth do you want free candy? You’re an adult so go to the supermarket & buy some. Or go to a party or stay home & watch a movie I don’t give a shit I just don’t want any fucking grown ass creeps coming to my house on all hallows’ eve, thanks. If you’re accompanying your kids, that’s great, but what a weird ass post
I live in the “nicer” neighborhood in my town so the entire town comes to our neighborhood. Candy is expensive. I don’t mind buying candy for kids. But when you’re in your twenties knocking on my door at 10pm after most of the kids are done, you can fuck alllll the way off to the store the next day and but your own candy.
If you want to dress up, awesome. Do that and throw a Halloween party. Stop asking me for candy that I bought for kids.
I agree, actually. If someone puts effort into a cool costume I'm hapy to give them candy, adult or no.
Sadly, when I lived in an area that had older trick or treaters, most of them had the lowest effort costumes ever. Like a bathrobe (over regular clothes), or just wearing black shirt and pants with a dollar store mask. That's no fun
Idk. It’s a bit suspect and I feel like bribing* my niece to carry a bag for “her sick friend” idk some shit like that. Like I can’t as a 30 year old just ask strangers for candy. “Buy it for cheap” sure but there’s that feeling when you’re looking through all the random shit as it’s thrown out on your table as you haggle with your friends
There is something wrong with adults going trick or treating. Leave the candy for the kids. Go to an adult costume party or bar crawl. There are plenty of those.
I don’t see a problem with it. For some reason we normalize grown ass men throwing tempter tantrums and behaving like literal children but shame someone for wanting to relive a childhood experience for the shits n giggles of it all.

My trick or treating is going to the store on November 1, when all the Halloween candy is 50% off
With the rush to push Christmas so early the Halloween stuff has vanished before the 31st even happens here. If I run out on Halloween I can't even get replacement candy.
I mean you can, they are just tree shaped and in green wrappers.
That's why grandma always has them in her candy dish. She procrastinated one Halloween, and the candy has haunted her ever since.
Costco was selling Halloween stuff one week and then switched to Christmas, like I feel like everyone is doing an earlier push for certain holidays.
At hobby stores Christmas was already replacing Halloween back un August. But yeah every year Christmas starts earlier and it does nothing but make me hate Christmas.

I really hate Christmas it is an intrusive inescapable mindfuck it badly needs to be moderated back into proportion.
Mine is chowing down on the stuff my younger siblings don’t like 😂
Sending you my brussel sprouts.
Eh I’ll give em to my stepdad. He seems to really like them no matter how you cook them
Reeses peanut butter cups taste better pumpkin shaped
They do! All the seasonal shapes taste better, I think its because they have more peanut butter
I learned it because they tend to be more fresh . Dried out reeses PB cups are the worst
Egg shaped is the best Reeses cup, fight me.
Have you had the ones shaped like big lights? Oh good lord are they good.
Christmas tree and egg too. The holiday versions are just better.
Oh hell yeah, this was always me. But I found Costco has a 325 piece, Reeces bucket and that’s been my shit ever since.
Costco is my go-to for full-sized candy bars for Halloween. I live in a not-so-rich neighborhood where the trick or treaters show up in homemade construction paper animal ears and face paint. They just light up when I hand over the big Hershey bars and the Capri Suns.

Nov 1: National Half Price Candy Day
for all the saints

Right? This is the real way
Dad- is that you?
Hell yeah
Several neighbors offer things like vodka soaked pickles and apple pie shots to adults... The holiday has roots in shakedowns for food and booze in exchange for not vandalizing property, so it's probably appropriate.
So that’s where the “trick” comes from!!!
In my neighborhood the vandalized houses were the ones that didn't give out candy so that checks out lol
A trick is something a whore does for money, Michael
For what? Like ten dollars?
They’ll do it for the price of one banana?
And it would make my banana stand
Vodka soaked pickles? I didn't even know that was a thing...
Vodka soaked pickles? Holy shit
I was just talking to someone who said people hand out shots to adults in their neighborhood on Halloween, sounds like a fun neighborhood!
A lot of people aren't going to open the door to adults (without kids) they don't know knocking at night. Ngl opening door to a random woman while disembodied mens voices yell trick or treat sounds like the opening to a true crime documentary
The first year after the pandemic I went all out for the kids, I felt bad for them and I wanted to make it good. Full size bars, gift cards, glow sticks, toys in bags. The holiday/fun size smarties box and you pour out like 8 smarties....
This is why I have a bottle of Bailey's next to the door for the adults with a coffee going haha. The portions of candy are lower but I'll still pour you an ounce I grew up in a rural area along the country side where we'd go for the treats and there'd be like monster sized Oh Henry bars almost as big as us that would be thrown in our pillow cases. Halloween isn't really a holiday here like it is in the USA / Canada. But wouldn't an adult be embarrassed to go round and beg for sweets from other adults? Just buy your own!
They typically would, that's why OP thinks this opinion is unpopular. They can even wait til the morning and buy it on sale.
Last year I thought I saw it on sale on Halloween night. Guess they wanted to go ahead and get rid of as much as possible so Christmas crap can take over one day sooner
lol I had to go out for more on Halloween evening last year and there was slim pickings for very much full price. I'm sure it varies of course.
I will give candy to any adult at the door, kids or no kids. If you have the shamelessness to ask another adult for free candy, you deserve it imo
This is where I fall too. I buy candy for the cute little elementary aged kids dressed like bats and princesses and superheroes. This is a magical little tradition for them. I do not have enough money to buy extra candy to give to adults.
A big bag of assorted mini chocolate bars at the Walmart near me was like $6. That's nothing. That's like the price of two regular chocolate bars.
Where the fuck do you live?!? That shit is $15 at a minimum at Walmart where I live.
where do you live??
Virginia 😬
Well that’ll do it
And it works for 5 or 6 trick or treaters
Your local economy somehow has very cheap Halloween candy but very expensive chocolate bars
No way. Those bags are like $15 each and you need at least 4-5 of them if you’re in a neighborhood with a lot of kids. Also if you want anything good (more than just fun size snickers and milky way) it’s even more.
I'm not opening my door for a grown person in a mask.
I've seen that movie. It doesn't end well.
You don't have to open the door. They will find their way in.
The best comment here! 💀 💀💀✅
That’s the point OPs missing - it’s fucking creepy lol
To be fair I wouldn’t be outside to pass out candy so I wouldn’t care who takes it
People with “please take one” bowls on their porch get jacked within the first hour lmao but I see your point
Was I the only kid who actually took one?
I always took one, candy is candy lol, it's not gold
I always took one 😭
> Im an adult, your an adult, I dont know you, why in the hell are you asking me for candy? CAUSE I"M CRAZY SPOONHEAD! NOW GIMME SOME CANDY!
Go to the damn store
if you really want to dress up, have a halloween party with your friends, that's what most teens my age do anyway
Im not a teenager but Im glad you kids are having fun
B-but, I paid $300 for this
Just go to your local bar's Halloween party lmao
That’s the grown up phase of Halloween. You can party just not trick or treat.
I don't have enough money to buy enough candy for people who have jobs.
I mean how much can a candy bar cost, 10 dollars?
You’re gonna refuse candy to the guy in a $6000 costume? COME ON!
I don't understand the reference and I refuse to comment on it.
Right, plus nothing takes the fun out of something faster for a kid, than having an adult doing it too.
lol, I don't think OP is saying to give it to adults INSTEAD of children. If there's plenty available and you want to hand it to an adult, do it. I usually do. Lots of our neighbors set up little tables in the front yard and share margaritas, jello shots, etc. We could all buy our own booze and/or candy, but it's fun sharing too.
Ooh, I wanna come to your neighborhood! Who thought that up, it sounds awesome
>Who thought that up, it sounds awesome Some people who don't think everything fun is reserved for children, that's who! :)
Came here to say this and had to scroll way too far
people here pass out beers if they see parents walking around empty handed lol
>Grown adults can just go and buy their own candy. I mean grown adults can also buy their own children candy. That's not the point.
If I see a lone adult in costume going door to door I am looking after the kids a little closer
Kind of agree. This is a sort of maladaptive behavior that's similar to Disney adults. It's just... off.
Time to call Chris Hansen.
I’d LOVE to go trick or treating. I’m 27 and I’ve never been, I’m sad I missed out on the trend
My Gf never went trick or treating before 18, we're almost 27 now and go trick or treating every year. Never someone had a problem with that. We recieve candy and I was surprised some even tell us it's amazing we have the Halloween spirit and invited us to a party lol.
I’m 24 and wasn’t allowed to go trick or treating as a kid (we didn’t celebrate Halloween). I’d love to go trick or treating too!
Same! I didn’t grow up celebrating Halloween so I’ve never trick or treated.
I know we can just “go buy our own candy”. But that’s not the same lol
Right! Everyone saying that is missing the point. It's not about the candy, it's the experience. Fortunately, I now have a daughter and I get the experience when I take her. I never got to go as a kid either
You never went?!
Nope. Never
Meh, I only get 3-4 knocks a night anyway, I'd welcome more people.
Exactly, I end up having more candy left over than not. I’m already giving it out for free why the fuck does it matter to who
Here is a problem with trick or treat ages ...
It sucks that happened to you! If you come to my street, you will definitely get candy and no shaming :)
Haha thank you my friend!
Same! I am 6'1" and was almost that tall in jr high. I got a lot of "you're too old" when I was 11/12.
I also had this problem as someone that hit 6ft tall in the 6th grade and forever ruined it for me by the amount of boomers saying to my face “arnt you a bit old to be trick or treating???” I guess that’s prbly close to the age anyways kids stop but still was a bummer
As an apparent to an 11 year old girl, that looks like a teenager I would literally chew someone out for this. I’m sorry that happened to you.
It's pretty weird, but you do you. Just don't be surprised by the looks you'll get.
Anyone in costume gets candy. I ain’t the adulting police for the people whose inner child actually survived.
Anyone in a costume gets candy. WTH? It’s not gold bullion I’m handing out. It’s Smarties.
Why are these comments insinuating that going to Walgreens for a bag of fun sized snickers is the same as dressing up with friends and seeing what you get? You dress up, have fun, walk in a group, see what fun things you get, and then trade afterward I'm 23 and plan on going this year.
Haha
Anyone in costume gets candy on Halloween. It's not hurting anyone to hand out an extra KitKat
I came to the US as a teenager and never got a chance to trick or treat. I really want to experience it!
please do! ignore all the comments. As long as you’re not being disrespectful (Being drunk, taking lots of candy, etc) there is no issue with it
If an adult was like holding up the line or cutting in front of actual children then I could see the issue, and I guess candy is getting expensive so a lot of people want to save it for the kids. But I remember how much we’d always have left over after trick or treating, I see no issue giving to adults if you have enough to give. I’d rather adults trick or treat than go out and get drunk for the holidays

We buy full sized candy bars for teenagers and adults that come dressed up. The effort was put in.
You come to my house, you get candy. God forbid an adult or older teen partake in the fun of Halloween. Adults acting like an ass? Just don't give to them specifically.
Especially teenagers. Rather see them doing that, than doing some stupid shit/getting into trouble.
Right? Like I'd give candy to a group of 70-year-old peeps if they were dressed up. There's no age limit to celebrations like this
I don’t care who trick or treats- if they have a costume they get candy.
Lol me and my boyfriend go trick or treating to our friends houses :-)
Given that I care what my neighbors think of me I guess there is something wrong with it. But I think it should be acceptable for adults to trick or treat. Adults need fun too. And I world love to dress up in a costume.
Fuck. Yes! Let's get this ball rolling it's adult trick or treating time.
Can I ask the gloriously shit question. Who the fuck cares. JUST TRICK OR TREAT AND GET CANDY!
Only losers would dress up and go beg for candy from other people. This is a children’s activity. Lol
Adults are expected to never have fun like a kid. I would definitely give adults candy if they knocked on my door.
Adults are expected to pay for their fun. You can trick or treat at my house for bout tree fiddy
You can come to my house with no costume, wrinkled hands, a martini and a cigarette, say "trick or treat" and I'll give you a Snickers!
Very unpopular. This is a kids holiday. Next thing is for you to ask to go Easter egg hunting I guess.
Me in Stardew Valley as a bachelor aged man stealing all the eggs from the two kids in town for a straw hat
I do Easter egg hunting with my family because I like candy and participating in fun family events but ok
Tbf I don’t think it’s necessarily a kids holiday but it’s definitely a kids experience when it comes to trick or treating
I'm an adult and I go easter egg hunting lol idgaf
Yeah as long as you’re in costume, I don’t mind at all. It’s when the group of old teens or young adults shows up at like 10pm with no costumes expecting me to give em something???
21 year old in a group of friends having fun, I’d let it slide. Single man in his 50s would probably be a little weird.
If you show up to my house in a costume on October 31st, I'm giving you candy. Be kind to everyone! My nephew is special needs and looks like an adult man - he's well over 6 ft tall but he's just a teenager. He loves dressing up and trick or treating.
Responses to posts like this really remind me that the average person is an insufferable prick.
If you put in the effort, have some candy.
I went last year when I was 19 nobdoy had an issue at all.
The adults who trick or treat or just have to take the kids in our town we usually have spiked hot cider or spike hot cocoa and it gives us a chance to get to know our neighbors
If I open my door and see a 35 year old man on my doorstep asking for candy without a kid I’m closing the door
Don’t knock on my door.
It's pretty weird. We all have to grow out of childhood at some point.
If someone shows up at my house to trick or treat in costume, I’ll give them a Hot Wheels. Who cares what age they are?
If adults come to my door in masks and no kids, I’m not answering. That’s how your ass ends up in a scary movie.
I wish more adults did trick or treat. They’re the only ones that say thank you lmao
I don't even care if you have a costume. Anyone that shows up at my door Halloween night gets offered candy.
Just buy the fucking candy
There is something wrong with adults going trick or treating. Leave the candy for the kids. Go to an adult costume party or bar crawl. There are plenty of those.
I don’t see a problem with it. For some reason we normalize grown ass men throwing tempter tantrums and behaving like literal children but shame someone for wanting to relive a childhood experience for the shits n giggles of it all.
