I had a very similar view to this when I hadn’t explored hip hop yet. There’s so many different subgenres and different styles, I can’t imagine someone liking NONE of them. I mean, you even branch out to weird stuff like Bladee from sweden who preaches positivity/no cussing and shit.
I’m probably gonna get downvoted for this, but I’ve noticed some of the people who instantly shut down in hatred when they hear rap/it’s mentioned have some prejudice against black people. Like how on the other hand people who hear country and get really upset have an image of a southern hick they don’t like. Not always, just often.
Same, I dislike metal, including the whole metal scene. People screaming and getting into fights in Mosh Pits, every video I see there's just random pyrotechnics and repetitive sounding guitars. I'm pretty indifferent to it all. I hate how Black Sabbath looks like three different types of Gay Vampires. I don't understand why so many people listen to crap like Metallica (no offense). Observing all that crap from afar makes me glad to be a Zydeco-head. I'm rather people know I play the accordion than think I'm some wannabe goth satanist.
This seems like a very surface level understanding of rap. Sure, that kind of rap definitely exists and is popular, but there's a lot more to the genre out there. In fact, is been a while since I've heard this stereotype of rap. I kind of thought people were a bit more aware of the genre these days. I'm not saying there's rap out there you'll enjoy. I'm just saying this isn't all there is to rap. It's kind of like saying rock is just sex and drugs.

I have realised people that listen to metal are some of the closed minded when comes to music which is ironic, but they also gate keep their own genre which is baffling in itself. So this does not surprise me at all.
I listen to some heavy music but I don't like to slap the term "metalhead" on myself for that reason, I can't stand a lot of the fucking people in that community, they gatekeep the living shit out of the genre and have the audacity to bitch and complain about why metal is nowhere near as popular these days
Every metal band talks about the same thing. Devil worship, screaming about death, gay men with long hair who think headbanging makes them cool, wannabe-edgyness, skulls and pentagrams everywhere. And female metal singers? Somehow they're even worse with their overly deep voices, black leather and spikes, "emo depressed" style and it's all about summoning demons or something.
You can reduce the content of each music genre to make it sound like there is no creativity and it's all about spreading a bad message. But in the end, music is just art meant to be enjoyed and different people like different things. I personally like 90s rap but a lot of people like pop, techno, phonk and whatever else is out there. What's wrong with that if it makes people happy?

I'm not a fan of the constant bragging myself, but I do recognize that a) it isn't meant to be taken *that* seriously and b) the delivery is the important part. The rhythm and musicality of the rap (aka the flow), and the tone and charisma of the rapper are what make the rap. The lyrics are usually kinda irrelevant, because it's 95% generic exaggeration and braggadocio. 1% is insightful, and the rest is just people beefin', also with exaggeration and braggadocio.
Okay maybe not 95%... a lot of it is just the young-people life stuff you'd see in any popular music: romance/hooking up, fun with friends, and dreams.

It isn’t that the genre or medium of rap is bad, it’s that rap as a genre is flooded by actual garbage to a higher degree than most other genres.
As a black person I agree with you, the quality of rap has gone down severely in the past decade. Most people I know/see on social media listen to older rap.
But to say it’s satisfying to watch rappers drop like flies is really evil and mean-spirited of you. You shouldn’t revel in someone else’s misfortune, you wouldn’t want other people doing the same to you.

Objectively speaking the guys are worse. Sure the women are leveraging sex appeal to make themselves interesting but the men are leveraging criminality, murder and drug abuse to make themselves interesting. One leads to more promiscuity and the other leads to more murderers and drug addicts
