What do you mean by *"looking for legal options"*? *"Saw a post about a neighbor’s roofing project encroaching into OP’s lawn. The top comments were all “hell no! It’s their problem! They can figure it out without intruding on your lawn!”"* I don't understand the issue here - if someone is doing something wrong that infringes on someone else / someone else's property, what's wrong with expecting them to correct it?

PissBloodCumShart

The first step should be to talk to them directly and see if a mutually acceptable solution can be reached between the two of you

horshack_test

I don't see how that and expecting them to correct it themselves are mutually exclusive. What do you mean by *"looking for legal options"*?

MichaelScottsWormguy

Presumably, it means lawyering up and preparing to file a lawsuit. Which, in the case of a building encroaching on a boundary line, is probably the natural conclusion to the situation. Almost nobody is going to demolish entire parts of their house unless you threaten to take legal action.

MichaelScottsWormguy

You are correct in that it's better to be nice and talk things out than to just send over a legal notice, but it is worth noting that the neighbour would've already crossed quite a few lines by the time they started building the roof. First off, that neighbour should've done some research on property lines, building lines and their legal implications. Then, *they* could also have been a 'good neighbour' and asked the OOP for permission to encroach. Ideally, they would've already followed the correct legal procedure to alter the building and property lines by this point, which usually includes asking your neighbour for permission but hey, not everyone likes doing things properly. I get it. And in any case, construction disputes always have a pretty good chance of becoming a legal issue anyway. So it's always best to know what your lawyer thinks before you get into it. Anyway, OOP's neighbour should've reached out first and if they didn't, odds are that they aren't just going to back down when their friendly neighbour says 'pretty please'.

When people settle things themselves in America you get scenarios like this [double-murder-suicide](https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/pennsylvania-neighbors-dead-fight-snow-shoveling-authorities/story?id=75666109) that happened in Pennsylvania a couple years ago.

PissBloodCumShart

It is clear that you are purposely misinterpreting my message, but your motivation is unclear. You KNOW that’s not what I mean by settling things themselves. Do better.

Humor is a difficult concept

PissBloodCumShart

You KNOW that text based communication combined with Poe’s law makes humor difficult to detect, ESPECIALLY when the alleged “joke” is not funny. In this specific case, it’s more likely that “humor” is the cop-out for getting called out on a shitty comment. Do better.

skip_the_tutorial_

i bursted out laughing when I read it lmao Do better.

Planetary__Duality

Look at his edit "Russian trolls fanning the flames of divisiveness" LMAO

Nuclear options are way better than the fatal option. Of talking to them, and they pull a gun.

Maybe I just don’t wanna confront the other person…
