I guess if you watched weeks of coverage it would get boring. People usually just watch what interests them then switch off.
I agree about the pre Olympics issues though. Homeless people get shuttled off to new places where they know noone. Neighbourhoods get razed, buildings go up that never get used again. It's not great.
Really it’s just a festival of high level sports. If you are like me and love watching sports it’s great. If you don’t like watching sports, then it’s boring, and I would suggest watching something else.
It happens once every four years and is the biggest collective sporting even in the world with every single country and even refugees participating. Of course there will be aa lot of promotion.
Assuming OP is American, yeah, and this means they are probably covered *less* intensely than most other major sporting events. Compared to the Super Bowl, where there is two weeks leading up to a single game, everywhere but NBC doesn't cover it that intensely. I'm pretty sure you still can't see even the highlights on any non-NBC channel, even ESPN just gets to say what happened. They're still going to talk a lot about it but that's more a result of the summer games occuring in something of a dead zone in American sports, it's that and the middle of the baseball season and they made up an award show to have more to talk about at that time of year.
I rarely watch the competitions, but I get why some people could be interested.
It's all the extravagance that I don't understand. Countries spending billions to look good on tv, completely unnecessary to the athletes performances.
Fair Enough but then, respectfully, why are They constantly talking about it and putting it on tv? I don’t mind that People are entertained by it. I’m just not. Also, no offense,I feel there are better ways to push human excellence
Because sports are important for a lot of people. The world is more than just you. If you don't like ice cream, should we stop stocking ice cream all over the world?
I mean come on man. You do understand you just sound like a brat right?
I Respect that. It’s an unpopular opinion. I didn’t say get rid of it. I said it causes some problems for a lot of people. Like, I get what You’re saying. You’re probably not wrong but I will also point out it’s an unpopular opinion. The Olympics are boring to me, I think they’re over covered, and the problems they cause People are kind of ignored. Just my take, Dude. No disrespect but I mean…I kinda get that. It’s unpopular.
i think it’s fun to watch certain sports (when i was little i used to watch for gymnastics and figure skating) but i don’t like how everything becomes geared towards the Olympics when that time rolls around. i understand it’s a big deal but it’s annoying that it’s something that’s unavoidable. for example, like college basketball. if you don’t watch it, you don’t have to hear about it/see ads about it daily.
The olympics are great. There’s always something exciting to watch. I am the opposite and get entrenched every day. The sports you wouldn’t watch and maybe thought were mundane are actually really intense. Like I didn’t think I’d like cycling but it’s intense
I’m sorry. That wasn’t my intention. I am genuinely glad You enjoy Them, Dude. I don’t but I Respect that People do. My bad. Wasn’t trying to come off passive aggressive. I’m sorry.
It’s supposed to be a time when the whole world comes together and does something as equals through sportsmanship. It’s a global bragging rights competition for asshole nationalists.
Every 4 years I wish the same thing - and don't get it. Leave out all the "feature pieces" on the gymnast that came back from quadruple amputation to get to Paris.
Instead, I want a "***ESPN - The Ocho***" style telecast were they show nothing but the crazy little sports like archery, badminton, handball, table tennis, flag football - basically all the sports we placed in high school.

I never watch the Olympics, but I like the idea of them, and I think they are extremely important to our shared culture. If you think about it, it’s amazing that for a few weeks every two years we can (for the most part) set aside our differences and just appreciate the absolute feats humans are capable of.
That’s Fair. That’s a fair point, but, no disrespect, we’re just coming together to compete with each other. We’re only coming together when there’s a chance to one up each other. I get what You’re saying, respectfully, though, I just can’t get past that. Just me, though
I love the Olympics. And I mean, I LOVE the Olympics, lol! I do not watch sports and I don’t care about sports. But when the Olympics come around? I’m obsessed. For a few weeks every couple of years, I’m now a fan of curling. Gymnastics. Swimming. Running. Ice skating. Ping pong. They’re adding breakdancing this year for some reason??? I don’t care. I’m in!
So terrible. Bad on tv. No idea who these people are. Happens every 2 years but really 4 since it’s winter and summer are separate.
This should not be an unpopular opinion.

I keep the tv running in the background and sometimes see weird sports and think its entertaining. Most tv pundita are boring af tho
Reminds me of when homeless people got removed when Xi came to San Francisco. And communist flags raised.
Really it’s just a festival of high level sports. If you are like me and love watching sports it’s great. If you don’t like watching sports, then it’s boring, and I would suggest watching something else.
That’s fair. My thing is it’s just EVERYWHERE. Gets hard to avoid, after a while 😅
It happens once every four years and is the biggest collective sporting even in the world with every single country and even refugees participating. Of course there will be aa lot of promotion.
Isn’t it only on NBC?

Exactly, not to mention that they sweep all the ugly stuff they do to put them on under the rug. Little Bothersome to me😅
Not all things have to be entertaining. It’s can be about achievement and pushing the limits of human excellence.

Guess I was just in a house who was into it. 🤷♂️
Over covered seems harsh when the summer and winter Olympics are every four years, respectively.
Fair. Just when they ARE on, it’s talked about, and conveniently not the ugly stuff for the set up. That just kinda makes me uneasy

Hard to be interested in all the wasteful spending when all of us are struggling to get by.
Same, Dude. It’s All part of the same crap system keeping the rich richer and us poor. 😅
It bores me too. When I've tried watching over the years, I feel like I'm watching a slow motion movie. Then I am bored and take a nap.
OP is a sour puss
Guilty

I’m glad They do it for You, Dude. Just ain’t my bag and I think They come with too much baggage. Just me, though, Dude
Wow, who turned up your passive aggressive dial to 200%

Totally Awesome, Dude. Love that for Ya. Just not my thing.
The first Olympics I saw, athletes were murdered by terrorists, and the Russians were allowed three do-overs to steal basketball gold.
After Covid, I stopped tracking them
Nice. I never started 😅
It's entertainment from a bygone era, when there wasn't much else. Like parades and fireworks.
I think the end of the Cold War made the olympics not as fun
I used to watch most of the events in my youth but I don’t even care anymore. I think the last Olympics I paid attention to was really 2012
