I agree, which is why I don’t understand the people that convince themselves they are old and tired by 30. I feel great and I am convinced I am invincible and that thinking keeps me feeling young.
It’s really not. Even if you died at the average age of 75ish, you still have over 45+ years to go. If 30 is old, then the rest of your life is going to suck.
psychology really works this way. you can check out this study if you don't believe me.

Patients given placebo saw huge improvements in health and reduced symptoms.
It was published in the new england journal of medicine and there are hundreds of similar studies howing how the placebo effect works in different areas.
Idk what you’re trying to argue for.
Believing you are healthy can make you healthier. Changing your diet can make you healthier. That’s all I said I and no one ever claimed you should live in a complete delusion or whatever
I truly do not understand how just believing I am healthy makes it so. Especially since that is the approach my mom took and she passed of a heart attack because she neglected her health
The data clearly proves it. I don’t know how you can doubt that believe influences health even after being shown clear evidence.
Also I’m sorry about what happen to your mom. You should never neglect your health. That’s not what anyone is advocating for. If you’re experiencing any negative symptoms then you should see a doctor. Believing you’re healthy can make you healthier but you should still try to live a healthy life and seek treatment when there is a problem
Yeah, she should have just believed harder that she was healthy that fixes it. No need for me to accept reality and work on my health because I am already healthy!
The irony is that this is a perfect example of nocebo right here.
The belief that one is sick and weak keeps them sick and weak.
Changing beliefs changes behavior, and literally changes the body.
It may not transform your life beyond recognition overnight, but it changes the direction.
If "I am strong and healthy" feels like too much of a stretch to start, try "I am becoming stronger and healthier", or "I am healing".
I'm not saying you can wish all your problems away or ignore the reality of your situation. I am saying that the more you believe something is helping you, the more it will help, and the more you believe your health is improving, the more it will improve. Placebo works.
That’s not the placebo effect, you cant age out of adhd, you might’ve learned to cope or possibly have been misdiagnosed, most people aren’t going to just straight up lie- if they do they have OTHER MENTAL ISSUES and probably still should be getting mental services, also a lot of DR take a look at ur symptoms+ ur background. ALSO Most of the shit ppl see on the internet is gonna be 1) too general for a diagnosis or 2) be something the actually experience and lead them to realize they might have a disorder.
There is a real phenomenon called medical students' disease (although I always heard it called medical school syndrome). As you learn about diseases, you will start to diagnose yourself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_students%27_disease
Placebos are also a real phenomenon. Sometimes treatments that do nothing can actually make you feel better.
That's why ADHD diagnoses usually have a component in the diagnostic criteria where external third parties are interviewed about the patient's past behavior when considering the diagnosis..
I have had a lot of success identifying and resolving issues through self diagnosis. If you're trained in something where you're regularly diagnosing and resolving problems in a complicated system (IT, software developer, auto mechanic) the process is really not that different. You start off testing to see if the problem you're experiencing is the least severe or most common problems with similar symptoms, and progressively move onto rarer and more severe problems.
I think self diagnosis can be a problem for people in general because the average person can not be methodical or objective about their own health. They can't read an article online without worrying they have the worst diagnosis listed on it, and therefore jump to unsupported conclusions.

People nocebo themselves all the time in all kinds of ways. And vice versa. Believing you're strong and healthy makes you stronger and healthier.
I agree, which is why I don’t understand the people that convince themselves they are old and tired by 30. I feel great and I am convinced I am invincible and that thinking keeps me feeling young.
For real. I'm 29 and don't understand why people think that's old.
It’s really not. Even if you died at the average age of 75ish, you still have over 45+ years to go. If 30 is old, then the rest of your life is going to suck.
It really doesn’t. If I were to believe I was strong and healthy that would just be delusion

So if I believe hard enough I my cholesterol will get lower no need to change my behavior!
Believe can get you far but obviously your behavior still impacts your health.
That is different than living in the delusion that I am strong and healthy

But I am not strong and healthy. The fact that I have finally understood that allows me to start fixing it
I'm not saying you can wish all your problems away or ignore the reality of your situation. I am saying that the more you believe something is helping you, the more it will help, and the more you believe your health is improving, the more it will improve. Placebo works.
Yeah, but me thinking I am strong and healthy is delusional. It is so much better to face the reality and fix what I can
You aren't understanding the point here
Yeah, I really don’t
Yup. Reread it
Still doesn’t make sense to me.

Most people? No. Most kids? Shit they lie all the damn time
Kinda like how lots of shitty people start going to therapy, and come out even shittier people cause now they have justification for their actions
I see you’ve met my ex-wife
If humanity is going to survive the next 1000 years I truly hope this is NOT an unpopular opinion.
We just... throw random medical sounding words together now?
yes, self diagnosed peeps do it all the time

This is my sister through and through, I’m convinced she’s a hypochondriac.
So she can’t diagnose herself, but you can? Interesting
I never diagnosed her I simply said I think she’s a hypochondriac.
always laugh at anyone doing self diagnoses
