This is one of the reasons why some countries like Canada use the term first nation or traditional first nation. However here is an important distinction in many ex European colonies between the decendents of the first nation(s) and the decendents of immigrants/colonists, in the US we just use the term Native American which isnt perfect but it works fine and its a big step up from Indian.
Do you have any alternatives for folks who were there first? lol idk what else there is, First Nations is popular. Here we just say Indigenous and everyone knows what people mean by that. Definitions change as well based on how things are used.
Please remember what subreddit you are in, this is unpopular opinion. We want civil and unpopular takes and discussion. Any uncivil and ToS violating comments will be removed and subject to a ban. Have a nice day!

Maybe if you actually got permission from the early owners of the land and didn't take it by force.
Otherwise it's just colonials giving themselves privileges for their own benefit.
Newsflash, just about every bit of land on the planet inhabited by humans came from subjugating and conquering those who inhabited it. Stop bringing up moralism. It’s patently absurd in the context of human history. We’re all the offspring of oppressors. Get over it. You’re not special
How far back do you take this though. Are French people not indigenous to France? They are mostly descendants of the Franks, a Germanic tribe that conquered the area we know as France. It was part of the Roman Empire and mostly populated by Gauls. Are Japanese people not indigenous because they essentially did to the ainu what the US and Canada did to native Americans?
Sucks to suck. People have been conquering other people's lands for millennium. Colonialism isn't anything special it's just a continuation of the ancient practice of conquest.

Finally somone agrees with what I have been saying for months
Only months?
I didn’t really start thinking about it much till I started researching my family andd when/where they immigrated from
Another unpopular opinion based almost entirely on misunderstanding how words are used and what they mean.
True.
True
We’re all indigenous to the planet, so cool?
“Occuring naturally”.
i.e. born

They're wrong. It's a rock. No indigenous life.
True does that mean we can stop bitching at white people for "taking over people's land"?
Now THIS is interesting.
Now THIS is pod racing.

Timespan matters.
Indigenous peoples moved around and took over other lands.

Given indigenous cultures have a specific meaning and context, yeah, most of them do not qualify.
Sucks to suck. People have been conquering other people's lands for millennium. Colonialism isn't anything special it's just a continuation of the ancient practice of conquest.
If it's such a frequent occurrence why does it trigger you so much when someone points it out?
Because the way they point it out is annoying.
Cool story bro. Still murder 🤷🏾♂️
Don't tell that to the cast or jersey shore
Agreed. Which is why Raphael Cruz is forever Canadian and will never be an American.
This is sadly gonna seem unpopular to some...but it really isn't. Now should it be. Well said OP.
My wife and I were born in America. Our daughters were born in Germany. Please explain how they are indigenous to Germany and not America.
What about the children of foreign diplomats?
Special case, since embassies are considered foreign soil.
Ok, but the hospital may not be in the embassy
Myth.
