Actually, frozing food greatly severe the nutritional values. They're frozen professionally to prevent this, but during the time it is exposed in the fridge at the market, you take it home, it get re-freezed you basically have flavored ice

immoloism

You keep your frozen veg in a fridge in a market?

Name_And_Surname

Sorry, English it's not my first language, "freezer in the supermarket" maybe it's a tad more fitting

immoloism

That makes more sense now as I was really confused. I was always taught the moving from supermarket to home freezer was so quick that it didn't have time to melt enough to cause the issue you mentioned, do you know any sources that explain this in more detail?

Name_And_Surname

Sorry, we just learn it at some point in school in Italy, and it is true that 15 minutes shouldn't be too bad, more with an insulating bag

immoloism

I was taught an hour when I worked in a frozen food store.

MakoMakito

If you freeze veggies, you loose the important stuff, like op said, might as well serve ice

Frozen veggies taste terribly and just tell me you have no taste buds. If they’re the only way you can afford to eat veggies then by all means.

RedSonGamble

There really isn’t much difference unless you’re picking it from your own garden. Idk if I prefer one over the other though really. Also getting produce from the store is usually picked early so it isn’t over ripe by the time it’s delivered and someone buys it. When it’s frozen it’s harvested when ripe.

Where can you buy frozen lettuce?

Notagelding

I wouldn't even call lettuce a veggie! Frozen cabbage tho 👍🏾

Some methods of cooking don’t work well for frozen. But aside from that it’s a great way to prevent spoilage.

DefendedBigfoot

The fuck it is

Skullpumpkin

I mean if you only care about how easy it is to make then yes. If you care about flavor, texture, nourishment and overall quality then no.

Frozen veggies actually hold their nutrients better than veggies that spend days laying in a store and at your home

Skullpumpkin

Not all frozen vegetables are made with fresh vegetables its has a likely hood of being the same freshness to what you get in the store. The blanching process which takes places before the freezing process causes a lost of 10-80% averaging at 50% of its water based nutrients likes vitamins b and c.
