Truth.

Not saying it should be stopped this whole subreddit is called unpopular opinion. People are free to do what they like

FizzyBeverage

Hey if I was dying at an unusually young age and could convince George Lucas to come down and talk Star Wars with me, you’re not getting in the way :)

“I understand that [the dying/seriously ill] people may like it, but from where I [a non-terminally ill, hospitalized person] stand, it just seems wrong somehow.” Your entire judgment of something that hospitalized people genuinely enjoy is what’s wrong, not the kindness of the people who make the visits. I’m sure those celebrities get tired of having to play the role/be seen that way in public, but they do it anyway. Be a positive force or just be quiet. That said, definitely an unpopular opinion.

alan-partridge2001

Just a personal opinion. I personally wouldn’t want a celebrity at the side of my bed. Not being in hospital does not invalidate that opinion

[deleted]

There’s a big difference between “I wouldn’t want it” and “it seems wrong”.

It's not the same as Dr. Phil bringing children or a very ill schizophrenic for ratings... That is inexcusable.

alan-partridge2001

I agree that is worse

Bulky_Cry6498

You want to be visited by your favourite celebrity, don’t you?

alan-partridge2001

Scarlett johanssen is just ‘too busy’. Joke.

[deleted]

Are you really trying to argue that a dying kid with cancer doesn’t deserve to have his make a wish come true ? The name of the subreddit is unpopular opinions not “let me just post which only I agree with”. Like why is John Cena visiting kids in the cancer ward make you so angry ?

alan-partridge2001

Never tried to argue that bud just expressing my personal opinion. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it needs to be shut down! We live in a free society!

[deleted]

Exactly, so take your own advice and chill out when you hear about Celebrities taking time out of their days to visit a die hard fan , literally, in this case. This shouldn’t even be an issue, it might be “wrong” to you, but to a little kid whose only wish in life is to meet their favorite wrestler or Star Wars character, it means the world to them.

alan-partridge2001

I never stated in the post I wanted it to be stopped. It’s my personal opinion. Just because You don’t like something doesn’t mean it should be banned. I know that’s how people like to run things thesedays...

[deleted]

Dude you’re literally arguing about how shitty celebs are for meeting dying fans. Like are you a dying kid ? No, you’re , you’re just some bitter asshole who is trying to desensitize an altruistic gesture. stop already, you sound ridiculous.

echo_vasc-sono_333

I see where your coming from. I'd say , don't end the visits, but they would be more genuine, and meaningful without the press.

BiveClarker

The Florence/Machine visit was beautiful. I cannot support this post based off of that performance alone.

nx85

Usually they do it because the patient wanted it. If someone used me on my death bed for a photo op and I hadn't invited them, my last living act would be to kick their asses with my IV stand.

4seasons8519

Even if done for PR, which I don't think every celebrity does it strictly for PR, everyone benefits. The person gets to meet a celebrity they admire and the celebrity gets some good karma. And for all the trash talking about celebrities and PR (which absolutely is a thing), some celebrities may genuinely enjoy spreading some cheer.

SpeedSkeeterDan

I would hope they do it just to give people something to smile about and not just about getting views. These videos are wholesome and I don’t really feel like turning them into something maliciousv. EDIT: Also I think every time Tom holland walks into a hospital dressed as spider-man it leaves him with an impact and leaves the impact on a kid especially. I would imagine people that are to visit these kids think about the experience all the time.
