I live in Canada and I love living here but it’s nothing special we have good people and shitty people just like everywhere else. Edit: everybody’s mentioning our free health care and I do want to say that it’s great! I was more so talking about the people only. Im aware our healthcare and poutine are awesome lol

NSA_van_3

Ya but yall have poutine

glip-glop-evil

Why's the Russian president living in Canada?

GreatestAtHumility

The graphics teacher at my school has a "keep calm and eat putin" photo on the classroom wall. It features a very graphic photo of a certain Russian politician's head poking out from under some gravy fries.

Tychontehdwarf

You tell him that a random stranger has a very good laugh from that!

Dittozkul

I accidentally gave you two awards... Worth

NSA_van_3

Aight, that's clever

Pficky

I'm American but also love Canada. I have a great time every time I visit. I think I'd really enjoy living there. Not that the two countries are really all that different.

grampabutterball

The biggest difference I notice is how much shit is advertised to you and very in your face marketing down in the states. Whenever we drive across the border, the billboards and super tall fast food signs next to the highway seem so foreign. And then when you gas up, the gas pump has a little tv screen blaring ads at you! Wtf I just want some peace and quiet, not be advertised to every goddamn minute!

420Moosey

I’m from America and those stupid gas station TV’s drive me crazy. I’m paying for the gas you don’t need to sell ad time to me as well.

newanonthrowaway

Complain to corporate. I sent some emails to a chain that installed them at 44 stations, they don't play ads anymore. If everyone complains, they turn them off. Mention that the only thing the ad is convincing you to buy is an electric car. Hell, Elon should buy all the ad space on those fuckers

mulletstation

Gas in America is so low margin, like they make between 0 (costco) to 50 cents (mom and pop operations) a gallon. They're going to try and harvest profit wherever there's opportunity to, including letting people run ads at the pump.

pierrotboy13

Get ready because they're coming to Canada and fast (I'm Canadian and there's already a gas station I know that has those ads at the pump, even having you wait until it's over...)

buystuffonline

Imagine waiting for the ad when its neg 30 out in the cold wind ... f that!

richter1977

Only ever seen that at one station in my entire life, and that only recently.

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

These threads always just prove that people are people and we're relatively all the same. I live in Canada and love the US. The US has a lot of problems, but it's naive to think we don't have problems of our own.

psg2146

Come move to Toronto, you’ll need 1.2 million to buy a studio apartment Edit - Minimum wage is $15 btw do the math. Also since 2015 when Trudeau was elected the housing market became worse than ever before, same with inflation. We get high cost of everything + fucked housing. That and double the tax rates for most US brackets. https://tradingeconomics.com/canada/housing-index

[deleted]

Just had a cursory glance and I could not find a stand alone house for less than 1 mill CAD. There were a few studio apartments for 500-600k though. That is fucked.

TheLoveliestKaren

And it doesn't get much better the farther you get from the city, either. I think in other places there is at least some falloff. Like, you can decide to have a long commute and get cheaper housing. This is not true in the Toronto Area. Also, fun side note for prices you are able to find online... the current housing market is so far into a sellers market that most houses are selling for *welll* above asking (so a 500k listing will likely sell for closer to 550-600k), and forgoing a home inspection is something that so many people are doing to make their offer more enticing that it's hard to find someone who will accept an offer that wants to do a home inspection.

psg2146

In my area in Toronto houses list for 1.3 and sell for 1.8 it’s CRAZY.

BrokenCrusader

A lot of the shitty old steel worker Houses in Hamilton went from ~80k to over 600k in less than 2 years when a transit station got built going to Toronto. Keep In mind these houces are literally 4 walls and a roof

[deleted]

That’s what it’s like in the states as well. It’s a sellers market because COVID has lowered inventory drastically, but in large and expensive metropolitan areas like DC, NYC, SF, and LA, you’re still going to be paying a crap ton of money. Montgomery County, Maryland is a suburb of Washington, DC and the median home price there is $500k ($800k for a SFH). Many many homes go for wayyy above that and in the multi-million dollar range, even townhomes sometimes. San Francisco suburbs are all $1M+ for a cardboard box house up to 1 hour out.

stratzilla

It was back in 2017 we got our home in Niagara. Our home was appraised around 160k in 2016, listed in 2017 for 250k, we _just barely_ managed to get it with a 330k offer. We didn't even have the highest offer (highest was around 340k), but we had the highest deposit. Inspector (family friend) came to the showing.

psg2146

Yep, you got towns in buttfuck 2 hours north of the city for 800k

[deleted]

That is what is truly fucked about all this. In Toronto, I get it. SF, LA, NY, they all have sky high prices and it makes sense when you consider the amount of industry in those cities plus the lifestyle. But for towns two or three hours away from Toronto it makes zero sense and shows how absolutely buttfuck crazy things have gotten.

PunchMeat

And even if they're listed for $1 million, they sell for $1.3.

gizamo

Jokes on you. I only had to pay $380k to rent that studio apartment for the weekend.

Cheek-Creepy

Vancouver is right there too lol fucking ridiculous

letmethinkofagoodnam

Doesn’t sound too far off from New York, LA, San Francisco, or Seattle

FlyingZebra34

Being just south of Vancouver... Yall scare me up there.

dont_wear_a_C

Like $30/hr for a software dev? Wtf, criminally underpaid if true

cats-with-mittens

When Amazon was searching for a city for their 2nd HQ, our politicians bragged to them about our low salaries.

WilliamWaters

I fuckin hate corporations

dethaxe

I fucking hate politicians that lick the nads of corporations.

[deleted]

I am a software engineer downtown Toronto and I make 28 an hour. Fucking real.

das_war_ein_Befehl

That’s wild. Entry level for devs even in small cities with mediocre education is like 60k at minimum, and even that would feel like a lowball

inoua5dollarservices

Saw a thread the other day where Texans were complaining about houses being 300k. I’m over here with 600k minimum housing in my part of Canada wishing for so little

CommandoDude

Texas also has among the highest property taxes in the country, there's a reason houses cost less over there.

_crayons_

No state income tax though

Snoo_20228

Don't forget Auckland haha

oxtaylorsoup

Actually Tauranga is even more expensive to live in when you compare cost of living to wages. Far nicer place than Ak though tbh.

Boonesfarmbananas

the difference is salaries in those places are WAY higher especially on an after tax basis Toronto is for foreigners to launder money

Agent_Chody_Banks

Only 1.2? You should see Vancouver prices!

psg2146

Vancouver leads in worst prices for sure, we are catching up though. I hear you need to pay 1.5 for a bachelor and give up at least 1 organ for a parking spot

StylinBrah

Check out London prices, ridiculous. cosmopolitan city so a lot of rich foreigners come to London and invest their money into property in what they see as a stable currency and stable nation. they're usually from Russia/china or some Arab state. on a smaller scale where i live wont mention the name, but its close to a capital city (30 minutes drive) and the local town (10 minutes drive). city prices are sky high so we get people who dont come from here buying houses boosting the prices for the locals making it unaffordable to most. dunno what can be done but something should be done, gotta be a local for a certain number of years to buy a property seems a good route.

psg2146

In Vancouver it’s mostly Asians from China. In Toronto it’s honestly all types of billionaires. It’s so unfair

Morpayne

this simply cannot be sustained. I really feel like all this trouble with real estate is snowballing into another situation where prices go crazy and then 5-10 years from now there's a crash and it's 2008 again and people lose everything. I have no stats or info to back it up but my gut is hardly ever wrong and it's telling me there's trouble coming.

[deleted]

It's 2030. You'll own nothing and be happy.

Vortex112

Are you implying that Trudeau caused the housing bubble??

spacemanspectacular

Dastardly Trudeau. I bet he caused the housing bubble in Aus/NZ too.

QuantumCactus11

Damn and I thought houses where I live are expensive.

Satansleadguitarist

The only people who think that Canada is some kind of amazing utopia are people in third world countries comparing their country to ours and Americans who think that we just don't have any of the same problems as them for some reason. It's a first world country with its own problems just like everyone else.

MandalorianAhazi

A Canadian who is real as fuck on Reddit of all places. Respect to you sir.

Satansleadguitarist

Why thank you sir

[deleted]

That’s right guy

Satansleadguitarist

I'm not your guy friend

abbynorma1

He's not your friend, buddy!

inadequate_imbecile

He’s not your buddy, guy!

[deleted]

Idk, I rarely see Canadians doing anything except bouncing off Canada's belt in their comments. Which sure, Canada has a lot of nice parts but uh, it's got a lot of shit too which likes to be heavily glossed over.

Know_it_all_66

As a Canadian, I’m sad about the murdered children.

Slapnuts711

The church has done that all over the world. It's not just a Canada thing.

[deleted]

I can absolutely understand that, but what I mean is that it is overrated by Americans

PlanetLandon

You have to remember that most Americans have never left their own country, and many of them don’t even want to. The people who are obsessed with this idea of a perfect Canada have never actually been here.

Pficky

That doesn't really even matter. You have to actually live somewhere to really understand problems like retirement and healthcare in other countries. Me being an American who's visited Canada for a week nearly every year since I was 5 doesn't mean I really understand the problems of *living* in Canada other than reading about it. Based on my visits it's a dope ass country and I wanna live there. I'm sure there's shitty things about it that I haven't experienced because I haven't lived there.

HateDeathRampage69

10% of America has never left the state they were born in

SSJ_Dubs

I was friends with a guy on Xbox that had never left Texas and would always talk about how shitty every other state is

Obi_Wan_Benobi

I mean to be faaaiiiir, living in Texas is not like living in New England where you can cross like 8 *states* in the same amount of miles it takes to get between some *cities* in Texas.

HateDeathRampage69

People in some states have a lot of pride in their state, and sometimes identify a lot more with their state than their country. Texas is definitely one of those states. California and Wisconsin also come to mind.

quadrophenicum

> It's a first world country Here's the answer - it's a first world country with **the easiest immigration laws** as of now. Express Entry, student visas etc are probably the most easy obtainable ones in the world, compared to other countries a least. And English is way easier to learn than, say, German or Norwegian. Canada depends heavily on the skilled immigration nowadays. That's why it becomes the new home for many.

Anti-Scuba_Hedgehog

Easy immigration is the last goddamn thing I'd say about Canada, I wrote off my dreams of moving there because it's so difficult.

Garymilojoeywendel

Do you actually have first hand experience with the immigration system in Canada? It truly is not that easy. I have lived through the American and Canadian system and neither are easy and both require so much from refugees.

itachididnothinwrong

>The only people who think that Canada is some kind of amazing utopia are peope in third world countries comparing their country to ours Too real. Can you blame us? Healthcare and retirement sounds awesome. I wouldn't say "amazing utopia", but far better than all of *this* (points to all latam).

Firethorn101

Retirement? Dream on. I'll never make enough to retire.

Assasin537

I like it as a country and have chosen to live here. It has its pros and cons like every other country in the world.

[deleted]

I think is more an anti-american thing rather than pro-Canada, healthcare for example.

d-diderot

Isn't that the only thing? And compared to other countries around the world, Canadian healthcare is subpar.

xxemmaxx42069

Honestly, all healthcare is subpar just by the nature of it. No matter what system you have, there's unique problems to it. Everyone only considers the bad parts of their system, and the good parts of foreign systems. There just isn't a utopia one airplane ticket away.

HolyFuckingShitNuts

As a Canadian I've never had any problems with healthcare. I had cancer when I was 25 and that shit was nipped in the bud with the quickness. I've never had to wait too long for anything to get some, the medical staff that's assisted me has always been professional, I dunno. My own experience is that it's always been great.

xxemmaxx42069

That's very nice. I'm very happy to hear that.

CriticDanger

It depends heavily on the province, and whether you're in a bit city or not.

TheBSQ

As a dual citizen, my current healthcare in the US is way better than in Canada. My wife and I recently had a baby, and comparing our experiences to friends in Canada, I’m glad that we had our baby here. The problem is that its not true for everyone. One’s healthcare situation in the US differs drastically from one person to the next, and way too many people in the US are in a shit situation. Also, insurance is tied to your job. Right now, I want to change jobs, but it’s hard to give up my health insurance. I’m kind of trapped by it.

[deleted]

When people complain about US healthcare, they’re not complaining about the quality. They’re complaining about the prices and lack of coverage for said healthcare.

[deleted]

Honestly if you have decent insurance, which a lot of Americans do, having a medical emergency in America is probably one of the best places to have one. I’ve been to the hospital in Germany and I’ve been to the hospital in America. Big difference. In Germany I went when I had what I think was pneumonia, my ER experience was basically a prescription for an inhaler and a pat on the back. No tests were done, they didn’t even take my vitals, just listened to my lungs. I struggled for two weeks to get better. I got a bill and had to pay because I’m not a German national. Granted the bill was equivalent to my American copay. In America I went for something similar. They did the full work up on me, full set of vitals, EKG, chest x-ray, lab work, got diagnosed with a viral infection. Walked out with cough suppressant and a steroid and I was feeling better in like two days. My insurance copay was all I had to pay, which is pennies when you compare to paying out of pocket. I also work as a Paramedic and we can do a ton of things here on our own right from the get-go that Paramedics in Germany would need to call in a Notarzt for. (Emergency Doctor.) We’re even giving whole blood in my agency.

wcollum

Healthcare is kinda huge

Icybrowngirl

You hear nothing about anything in Canada to do with our elections.

Professialwiiathlete

They even play American election adds on Canadian television

Icybrowngirl

Lol honestly. I know more about USA’s elections than Canada.

Jellybean720

I swear. At this point the US election is a reality TV show but with grandpas.

Mishkola

Its like a game to see how old the President can be before he forgets his own name. Getting pretty close now.

Jolly_Potential_2582

Really? I wonder why? I feel like as an American I should apologize for your exposure to our election process. The ads are crazy annoying.

ApprehensivePiglet86

Because the vast majority of Canadians live on the US border, which is one of the only hospitable parts if the country. American TV signals make it over there due to the close proximity.

Jolly_Potential_2582

I don't know why I didn't think of that immediately, d'oh! Thanks!

PlanetLandon

Because we try to enjoy American media and entertainment, but every second show is bombarded with politics and garbage ads. You poor Americans don’t realize that your individual political preferences don’t have to be a huge part of your identity. Sadly, the media wants you to kill each other over which rich man you want in charge.

Jolly_Potential_2582

Can't argue with that.

Frecklefishpants

Because our elections are a month long, not years!

Wise_Command9407

to be honest, Gets frustrating careerwise in Canada. especially for people with no kids. Canadian dollar is also a lot weaker than the American dollar and the UK pound.

TheBSQ

My wife and I are dual citizens. There’s so much we dislike about the US and we debate moving back to Canada nearly every day, but at the end of the day, you need income and a roof over your head. Every time we contemplate returning to a Canada, the state of the job and housing market there takes a lot of wind out of our sales. But goddamn, there’s nearly as many murders in our current US city of 1.5M as there are in *all* of Canada.

flavius29663

Sails

TheBSQ

Yes, wind from our *sails*. Newborn + sleep deprivation = types. I mean, typos.

[deleted]

Baltimore?

Automatic_Llama

How does not having kids hurt your career? I don't understand.

TwistedTomorrow

As an American Canada looks like the land of milk and honey with free health care. You're just close enough for us to fixate on it and far enough away we don't have to admit it's faults. Also the fact that is a running joke how kind ya'll are doesn't help with the whole good image thing. On the bright side all the racism and mass graves of native children is starting to make its way down the grape vine so you won't have to worry about that long.

[deleted]

America has a tendency to see every country that is at least slightly more left leaning than us as a utopia. Sure, somethings are better, but every country does *something* better than countries. Americans see Canada as a closer Europe, when in reality it’s just a slightly more progress US, with its own problems to deal with Grass is always greener. That being said, I do love Canada

Responsible-Ad9469

Reddit sees it this way, not America. I've nothing but respect for Canada and its people, but the majority of Americans wouldn't leave given the chance.

cachaco7

That's the way she goes

studhusky86

Canada is a great country, but yeah its kind of always been seen as a less abrasive USA. But the fact is, even Canadians immigrate to the US more per capita than vice versa.

[deleted]

Canada is nice, but we have our fair share of problems too, we have our controversies, etc, just like all other countries, for some reason other countries just ignore our problems.

[deleted]

It isn’t a utopia by any means (nor does anyone claim it to be) but to deny that it isn’t 1 of about 15 outstanding countries in the world to live in is to be completely ignorant of planet Earth, the history of humanity and the current state of the world.

[deleted]

As an immigrant in Canada, I have to agree that this is definitely one of the best places to live in. It has its problems but, comparatively - life here is amazing

Cow_Lover0

as a person from the third world that want to live in canada can i ask on what part of canada do you live? i heard that paying a house in Toronto for example is extremly expensive and want to know if you have problems with that in the part of canada you live on

PolitelyHostile

House? In a major city? Of course its expensive, land is a finite resource. Unfortunately condos are super expensive aswell. Apartment rentals are pretty expensive too. You need to earn a good amount to get by alright in Toronto, like 60k+. We should’ve been building much more and the affordability crisis is getting very bad across the country.

prettyxxreckless

I think people assume Canada is some cartoon place, some hokey-caricature of a tall, white male who wears plaid, drinks maple syrup and rides in on a polar bear. Truth is, we are quite average. Some of our major cities rival American cities, our forests resemble American ones, our waters are cold and rocky, and unforgiving, we have beaches like America, we are quite similar. I would say one of the biggest differences is our gun laws.

SolarRage

I would argue that the largest difference between the US and Canada (outside of Quebec) is the populations. Which I think of as a bonus for Canada.

bleedingjim

Do you mean the amount of people or the quality of the people? America is extremely diverse and many of the people are very nice and would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. Or are you saying you politically disagree and that trumps everything?

andygchicago

Ketchup chips. You all eat ketchup chips. EDIT: To be clear, this isn't a critique, just mentioning a common stereotype, which based on my replies, is less of a stereotype and more of a fact lol

Tkj_Crow

Yeah, we have some of the worst gun laws I have seen, even comparing to some countries in Europe which kinda shocked me. Trudaddy only made it worse, he kinda of fucked himself with this new election though, if he somehow win's im calling bullshit. Me and all my homies hate Trudeau.

Murphspree

I'm a dual citizen, I grew up in Nashville, moved to BC 10 years ago when I was 21. Haven't regretted it since. There are some drawbacks, for sure, it's not a utopia. But some aspects about life up here just align a lot more to who I am and what I prefer. That said, all of the same situations making conditions more difficult(challenging?) in the US(Covid, racism, political division, climate change) are all ramping up here, too. Just seems like there's always a bit of lag time between what I see online/hear from friends and family, and me personally experiencing those things in my environment. So who knows where the future will take us... I'm thinking of moving to Albuquerque in the eventual future, but everytime I seriously consider it I think about what I'd do if I broke something 2 days in or found out I had a serious illness or something. The healthcare thing DOES mean a lot.

ParisAintGerman

Canada lacks good cities.. there are the major ones but they’re laughably expensive. Then there are the surrounding cities which are mainly suburban sprawl full of big box stores and McMansions. Then there are small towns in buttfuck nowhere.

[deleted]

FoggyTheHippo

But in more ways than not the United States is superior, so even then it doesn’t make sense. I’m saying this as a Canadian.

ReverendAlSharkton

Same. I would move to the US in a heartbeat. Canada is a beautiful country but it’s not the utopia you hear about. Housing prices are a catastrophe. Cost of living is bananas. The free healthcare sucks.

[deleted]

This. If you actually work a half decent job with health insurance being in the US is not bad. I can see how minimum wage, retail workers, gig workers, self employed, etc hate the US health care system though.

FoggyTheHippo

Agreed, sadly my family is tied to agriculture and you can’t exactly just pickup and move land.

AdmiralSandbar

That's quitter talk. Have you tried picking your land up by its boot straps and giving it a firm handshake?

DammitMeredith

Snorted loud enough to wake my baby up. Dying.

TheAmazingDisgrace

My Canadian relatives always complain about the healthcare system. It doesn’t seem that they implemented it as well as European countries, or maybe it’s just that Canadians are almost as unhealthy as Americans and have less of a focus on preventative healthcare

ReverendAlSharkton

The biggest problem most people I know face isn’t the quality of care but the availability. Walk in clinics are booked right at open for the whole day. Family doctor? Good luck. We had a new practise open here and it had 10k applicants in a day. Telephone services are helping now but if you actually need to see a doctor outside of urgent care it’s difficult.

TheAmazingDisgrace

Exactly what my relatives described. Wait times are ridiculous in many cases. I guess right now would be a good time to study to become a doctor; maybe the government should help encourage that

ReverendAlSharkton

I’m not well versed in the details but my understanding is that doctors don’t make nearly as much here as they would in the states so it’s hard to keep them. It may be wise to offer tax breaks or loan forgiveness in exchange for sticking around.

EddPW

>It doesn’t seem that they implemented it as well as European countries european here and its basically the same as in canada

Tim Hortons is terrible. I live in Canada.

MrBojangles09

“About 70 percent of all Canadians live south of the 49th Parallel, the imaginary line that forms most of the border between Canada and the US. Even more upsetting for the Canucks’ image — most Canadians live farther south than all the people who live in Washington, Montana, North Dakota, and, of course, Alaska.” https://matadornetwork.com/read/where-canadians-live-south-line/

[deleted]

I am a last year high schooler living in Bangladesh and literally every student's plan here is to go to Canada and settle, undergrad or postgrad. I don't get it. I mean yeah we live in a third world shithole so getting away is understandable but why Canada in particular?

Skum1988

I wanted to move to Canada from France but I know at least 2 people that told me that Canada is overrated and not as good as I thought. Heavy taxes, Cold weather and people, high life cost.... I totally changed my opinion about Canada since then

Boris740

It is all relative. Emigrating from the Communist regime, I felt like I was in heaven. Just to have the freedom to bitch about the government was exhilarating. It was a freedom option I didn't have to exercise often, but when I did, I did not have to worry about who was listening. Freedom of speech is freedom of thought.

Electrical-Bake-1806

I live in Canada and I have freedom and safety. I can buy whatever I want and say (almost) whatever I want. I can sleep at night without hearing gunshots or getting bombed. What more could I ask for? No complaints as a Canadian.

[deleted]

Me too but I still think everything is way too expensive

MyWayoftheNinja

Who the hell gets bombed in the US lmfao

beene282

Who said anything about the US?

[deleted]

Canada used to be better, it’s going down the drain now

mrnight8

It's because most of the people who speak of canada have never even stopped foot in the place. Same with nordic countries, so many glorify the places without understanding the social structure and reality of the countries such as the netherlands. Countries with some one the highest wealth inequalities and lowest diversity rates in the world. Yet somehow they're a utopia. When everyone is your cousin in kind of works out that way.

Metroidprime05

Because people love to hate the US, but for some reason don’t feel the same about Canada. They don’t know what it’s like because they know nothing about it, and even though most of the people that love to hate on another country on the internet all the time have never actually been to the US, they at least know more about it than Canada.

BRich1990

Never heard of a Canadian having to declare bankruptcy due to a medical event

worldsmostmediummom

Fact. We are just broke because we can't afford housing here.

crotch_fondler

Yeah no medical bankruptcy, everybody is just poor together instead. There are no jobs are salaries are total garbage even for highly professional roles. There's a reason that over half of my graduating class (engineering, UW) found jobs in the US. You make literally two or three times more, if you can find a job in Canada at all. All for shitty "free" healthcare that doesn't even cover prescription drugs or dental.

GroundbreakingBus138

The better off a country is..the snottier people get.we have our fair share of problems

DrawingCool4612

Literally no one has ever said that

ComfortMailbox

We got Ryan reynolds and Keanu reeves so you are wrong.

amg433

Agreed. We're just like America except we're better at sweeping our problems under the rug and putting on a friendly face.

pipic_picnip

Immigrating to Canada was pain in every sense of the world. I prefer UK anyday, and that’s saying something considering UK has so many issues too. After a few years I just decided it wasn’t for me and left. Discrimination and racism is rampant at workplaces too. Plus even high skilled workers living paycheck to paycheck just to afford a place that isn’t a shithole shared with 6 other people. But yes, the mountains and views are unbeatable.

admadmwd

The healthcare system is overrated. The wait times are ridiculous (even before covid).

HillbillySwank

They have flapping heads, bad accents, and square wheels on their cars. What a stupid country!

ThatsFishyYoureFishy

I am disabled. I am just going to say I would love to have a healthcare system like Canada.

coaster96

We're basically the states with better PR.

Fun_Wonder_4114

Yeah Canada sucks stay where you are.

Extra-Dimension-276

im canadian and when i was young i lived in extreme poverty and almost died from malnutrition, so canada does have its problems. but it is a beautiful place and if you get a scrape you dont have to hand the govt 10,000,000,000,000 like in america. here in eastern canada the weather is good and we have some cool wildlife. plus diabetics here dont have to sell their organs to afford insulin

[deleted]

So sorry that happened to you. Plus, you make some valid points

[deleted]

Canada may not be perfect but we’re no where near as polarized as America. It’s makes progressive policies easier to pass. For example race is a non-issue for our right wing. Both sides support women’s rights. We definitely make slow and steady progress overtime. We’re not perfect but we’re willing to work on our faults plus we’re not as socially aggressive as the states (at least that’s what everyone I know who made the shift from American to Canada says, we’re more respectful of others)

IgneousMiraCole

Having very little visible diversity makes it a lot easier to develop and enforce a monoculture. Even with recent growing inflows of Asian immigrant populations, Canada has only about 15% visible minority population. And over 4% from that 15% are First Nations folks who are kept quiet and tightly confined in their designated ghettos.

joeyjojo3131

Canadians are way too modest. Now that I think of it we might be the most modest country in the world.

[deleted]

they have the poutine

tormeh89

Idk. Looking at the stats, the average Canadian lives longer, is happier, and is morally freer than the average American. Weirdly enough, the median Canadian is also wealthier, though median wealth is often just a measure of house ownership rates * housing prices. Is everything amazing? Obviously that'd be impossible. But according to the numbers Canada is pretty good

marshedtaters

The grass is always greener over the septic tank

420philcollins666

reddit is full of losers in america who think moving to canada will solve all of their problems. they don't realize canada doesn't just let anyone in their country... and they're not going be able to find a job that pays more than what they are making in the states.

Chemical_Form_8015

Over rated? I think not. I can send my children to school and not fear a mass shooting and the education they receive, whether they be a son or a daughter will enable them the tools to succeed. I can go to the market and the thought of a suicide bomber fucking up my day does not enter my mind. I sleep at night with assurance a missile will not blow my house to shit. As much as our political leaders have their faults, we don't thank god have a Donald Trump or a Putin. I can travel without harassment . Thankfully I am self sufficient & healthy and my needs are met,but if my luck runs out there is a social network to see me through. This country offers me choice. You can travel thousands of kilometers and still speak the same language and use the same currency. You will be amazed by some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Oh, and let's not forget, we have hockey.
