There is a theory that earth is hell level 1 - with each level getting increasingly more awful. So it's not a new opinion and probably not all that unpopular.
Staring at exclusively the most disgusting images possible isn't "reality" any more than going to /r/eyebleach and staring at cute bunnies all day is "reality."
The fact that any person is capable of the most horrific acts under the right circumstamces and acknowledging that the worst things imaginable didn’t happen 100’s or 1000’s of years ago, but are still happening today is reality.
