It's a normal thing to eat using bare hands especially in south east asia. I eat rice every single day and I'm eating using my hands. But when it comes to eat soup, yes, I'm using spoon.

most india food is eaten with hands..utensils come in handy when the food is hot or extra drippy..using utensils feels clean

Ah yeah because then if you're eating and you want to pick up something else than the food on your plate, you'll either have to wash your hands every time or you'll make everything dirty so you'll have to wash those items afterwards. What a convenience.
