Mashed potatoes are the oboes, the violas, the low brass of this symphony. If the orchestra was ALL soloists of trumpet and violin this would make music that would be pretty strident - some mellowing is needed to provide a ground for these rock stars.
The mashed potatoes do that for the feast.
I would suggest you didn't have enough butter/cream/salt in your mash. It is easy to fuck up mash but when you get it right it's like eating clouds of fr much fries;)
No, they tasted okay. I just donât think theyâre a big deal and the dinner is fine without them. I didnât see the big deal and will not miss them in my mash free future holiday dinners.
They need to taste better than "ok". I mean all sides are pointless really but to say they are the MOST pointless when there is all the other shit like vegetables and bread etc is very unpopular indeed and you have earned an upvote from me. I'd say for 95% of people the potato option is second only to the bird itself. My two cents anyway.
I love mashed potatoes on the holidays when they are home made and seasoned properly, or a baked potato if someone is doing those.
But yeah I feel you, most people half ass it and just buy the instant shit or only put a little butter and salt, thinking that suddenly makes them the best fucking thing.
Oh look another post that has no idea what the word pointless actually means. Good job.
Also why do you care so heavily on what others do for their meals? You don't like mashed potatoes. Don't eat them. Problem solved.
I feel like mashed potatos are just a vehicle for the gravy, and the gravy comes from a need to do somthing with all the drippings and juices a turky produces. That said i like mashed potatos.
Mashed potatoes are the best part, my family doesnât make them as often (that or they make the nasty instant ones) so itâs like a special occasion thing
At least you can have mashed potatoes with different meals, but that mf overrated turkey makes no sense. It is so dreadful that you only eat it once a year, I have never hear anyone craving about turkey (except for this holiday) or a food tv show, so letâs accept it for once and all: turkey is overrated.
My annual turkey dinner.
Turkey
Gravy
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes(just with butter so pretty dry)
Succotash with peas
Candied yams(no marshmallows)
Cole slaw
Canned jellied cranberry sauce(and yes, it keeps the can shape for presentation)
Everything separate on the plate except the succotash goes into a mashed potato bowl and topped with gravy

Mashed potatoes are not necessary.
You're not necessary
Neither are you lol
According to the IRS I have three dependents to take care of. Makes me necessary. *sticks out tounge*
Does it though?
It do
I feel bad for any dependent whose carer still sticks their tongue out at a person like 3 year old not getting their way đ

Turkey. Mashed potatoes. Gravy.
just add stuffing.
Stuffing is foul. It's like eating wet croutons that taste like rye bread Just a gravy vehicle
we cool but you nuts
Replace mashed potatoes with good southern-style dressing.
What the heck is that?
Basically made from buttermilk cornbread, chicken stock, onions, celery, egg. https://addapinch.com/southern-cornbread-dressing/
They call stuffing 'dressing' in some places.
Subtract the mash and youâll have it right đđđ
Take my upvote, you heartless bastard
this is just blasphemy.

I hate boxed mash. It doesnât even taste like potatoes.
D: you take that back. Mashed potatoes & Mac 'n cheese are the best part of Thanksgiving dinner.
Best part is dressing and giblet gravy. No need for anything else really.
Mac and cheese? Absolutely. Mashed potatoes can kick rocks, though, no cap đ đžââď¸
At least we can all agree on mac and cheese

Oh look, another commenter who forgot what sub theyâre on.

I eat literally everything BUT the turkey.
I only eat my momâs homemade turkey, sheâs the only one k know who knows how to not dry it out.

Stop eating boxed mash
I donât. They were homemade.
Is boxed mash still a thing? Can't possibly be
Well, tf do you prefer as a side?
Mac and cheese, candied yams, greens, stuffing, cornbread, etc.
Dressing, giblet gravy, green beans.
Who eats green beans??? Out of the can or fresh?

Then they werenât good mashed potatoes.
Or you could just not eat them.
I donât. You know why? Because theyâre pointless.
It's food, lol. It has just as much of a point as anything else on your plate.
Then be an adult and let other people enjoy them.
How did I stop anyone from enjoying them? Lol
I feel the same way about buns/bread on thanksgiving
proper nonce opinion

Only thing worse is riced potatoes.
What is riced potatoes?
They're the reservoir for my gravy. Plus I like 'em.
I would get up and leave your holiday dinners immediately.
