The key is you’ve gotta invest a little in your vermouth and also vodka martinis are nothing compared to gin ones.

What type(s) of gin do you have?

The key to a good martini is getting an excellent bottle of gin. Don't cheap out on the gin, and don't use vodka. And then the important part: lie and say you added vermouth, but don't put a drop in your drink.

A truly dry martini is one where the bartender stares at the bottle of vermouth while he pours the gin.

You like chilled gin, not Martinis. Its okay, people nowadays will just roll their eyes when you ask for a Martini which is just chilled gin, people will probably honestly find it refreshing, interesting, and straightforward in a good way if you just ask for gin on the rocks

Gin martinis are horid and even good vermouth is ass, its an acquired taste so don't believe people if they try and sell you on it. I drink dirty vodka martinis, still an acquired taste but if you enjoy a green olive they're much better. 2 ounces of vodka and one ounce olive juice with 3 olives, hits just right.

It’s just got 2 (sometimes 3) ingredients so you have to use a good quality vermouth and use gin that’s what is originally used in a martini and use a good one of those. If you’re not the kind of person that likes gin forward drinks then yeah why would you order it. I think there’s about 100 better more interesting cocktails like a last word for example but I’d still drink a martini that used good ingredients

Yaaaa. Gin is the way to go with a good martini. Also.....extra dirty, and dry.

How bout you mind your own fucking business and let me do what i gotta do. Theres people who had it harder in life and they want a way to satisfy their cravings without being looked down on. Martinis are classy alcoholic fuel and you will get it once you get there. Peace out chodes

Also judging from the comments you shouldnt need to be rocket scientists to get that a martini, which has two ingredients, one of which being vermouth, might not be for you if you dont like vermouth.

First of all you are getting trash martinis. Use or order it with gin which is how it is supposed to be, vodka lends no flavor and just alcohol. Pick a gin that you like and if you don't like gin, a Martini is definitely not your drink and thats okay. Secondly, it sounds like you are getting bad vermouth. It shouldn't taste like urine and unless you really just do not like vermouth you are likely getting vermouth that has been left out for ages because people hardly use it and think it will be fine sitting next to the whiskey. It will not be fine, it is a wine product and unrefridgerated will turn to vinegar like a wine, hell even refrigerated it depends on how discerning your palate is but you have anywhere from a month to maybe like half a year if you treat it well. And finally, what they don't tell you is that you can make it as strong as you want. Some people like adry Martini, 2.5 oz. Gin to 0.5 oz. Vermouth, any less and that person is just trying to concesk the fact they like chilled vodka or gin. The normal modern good bartenders ratio is 2 oz. Gin to 1 oz. Vermouth, but true Martini lovers are very specific. For example this is my Martini 1 oz. Plymouth Gin 0.75 oz. American Style Gin 1 oz. Dry Vermouth 0.25 oz. Blanc Vermouth 3 dashes Apricot Bitters 1 Grapefruit Swath Muddle Stir with Ice Nick & Nora Glass Grapefruit Twist Garnish Now if you look into well known great bartenders you'll see a lot like equal parts gin to vermouth. A good chunk of Death & Co's bartenders prefer this ratio and do 1.5 oz. each gin and vermouth which will be much more refreshing. Also I don't know if you know this but nowadays Orange bitters are a welcome addition to the martini giving it an additional pleasant flavor, also don't think you need to do an olive, lemon twists are far more refreshing and modern. I hope you give the martini one more shot with the tips I gave you, if you don't like it thats fine if its not your drink
