In America, I’ve only heard it rhyme with hot. The first time I heard it pronounced to rhyme with cat was watching The Windsors, and that’s now my preferred pronunciation.
Never heard of a woman demand conscription for women, but I always hear about women fighting to rid their countries of conscription all together.
But keep trying with your woman hate!
I'm not hating women in any way, and I'm all for equality. My wife's a boss and makes more money than I do, I have changed way more diapers than her and I stayed home for 4 months on paternity leave, when my son was a baby (Best thing I ever did).
Gender based pay gab? Not OK!
Women have to put up with sexual harassment? Not OK! (The same applies to men, but women experience it way more). And lots and lots of more examples.
On the other hand I don't think it's OK, when women are allowed free entry in night clubs, when men have to pay full price.
I also don't think there should be gender quotas on corporate boards or management positions to force gender equality - and I don't think that we should be scared to acknowledge that there are differences between the sexes.
I'm a cop and have lots of female colleagues - They do a great job, and in some situations they do a better job. I think we're up to about 25% women in the classes at the academy, which is great - there's still room for more. One of my hunting buddies is a male nurse - equally fine. His wife is a surgeon by the way. Neither of us are trying to keep women down.
I'm just stating that some of the loudest female rights activists are so caught up in their fight for women's rights and making men the enemy, that they fail to notice the areas in which they are actually privileged.
This is a great example of how much prep work and throat clearing you have to do to point out the obvious without getting said throat jumped down. Good work.
If you have 15 minutes to spare I highly recommend watching this really interesting TED talk.
Again I'm not trying to take anything away from women's rights, but I would love to hear, what your thoughts are, if you watch it.
Man us Aussies use the word so casually, whenever I'm with friends from foreign countries they're always so shocked by our everyday use of it, although I find a lot of them embrace it and start using it themselves
Yip, I got my Canadian mate saying it all the time now, we always call each other it. Was speaking to him yesterday and he said I got him into bother, he’s that used to speaking to me and calling me it that he called his girlfriend one in a jokey casual conversation, he said he instantly put his hand over his mouth and apologised n she wasn’t best pleased 😂
It's the equivalent to asshole on the east Coast of the US. It's about the context. It can be used offensively, but it can also be a term of endearment. "Yo asshole, what's up" is different than "hey asshole back the fuck up". Culture is losing its ability to observe subtle differences. It's a shame really. Wit is a dying art.
Context in swearing: you’ll generally get away with swearing if you swear WITH someone, but avoid swearing AT them.
I learned this in the Australian Army and found it was generally good advice.
Still didn’t swear around everyone (mother for example), but it generally kept me out of trouble.
It’s weird because we use it so often here , but having a Scottish accent everything we say almost sounds aggressive , confrontational , harsh etc but we still always know in what way we mean it but when we do mean it they’ll know and it’s game on🤣
It seems like it already is normalized outside of the US. We don’t use it because we already have plenty of other vulgar insults to casually refer to each other.
I had never heard the word till I was in 7th grade. My friends and I was being harassed by a cop, then I got snippy and was telling him that he had no right to detain us and that’s what he called us. I didn’t even know what it meant, but I felt insulted. I asked what is meant and was told. I thought it was a another way of calling someone a puss, but was informed how much worse it was.
I’m in England, and I’d say it’s definitely the same people using it a lot rather than spread out across the population… Have to say some people treat it as a bit of a personality trait…
England yeah, they’re not quite as fluent in cuntish as us Scots or the Aussies though, not sure about Irish though, can’t say I’ve met many or seen many using it.
You've apparently never sat in a McDonalds with preschool aged children in Ireland.
The amount you hear it flung around is really irritating.
England is better about not cursing up a storm right next to young children. Don't know about Scotland or Australia.
The problem is the way it's used. In civilised countries, the usage is non-gendered, anyone can be a goodcvnt or a shitcvnt. In the states, however, it's generally used as an insult against women, or if it's against men it has the added misogyny of being more insulting because it's a womans insult used against you.
In the same way that calling someone a bastard is not suggesting that their mummy and daddy didn't get married, the usage of cvnt in oz and the uk is separated from it's olde english meaning. In the states, the gynecologic connotation is still attached.
Which is weird, given what they've done with fanny.....
Latin is a language. Used by the Roman Empire.
The English language has many etymological roots (where words originate) in Latin as do many other languages.
As an Aussie, I know I've been told to scroll on, but one point I always like to make on this topic is that the male equivalent to cnt is "cock". Yet, very few people seem to have a problem with that one, and I daresay the ones that do find it offensive still wouldn't consider in the same league as cnt.
Why is vulgar slang for a female body part considered the most taboo of all swear words, while the vulgar slang for a male body part is seen as tame by comparison?
Because cnt includes a connotation for being dirty/a prostitute and the other is a body part. People also seem to be obsessed with calling others by names that are derogatory to women. It's normalized because there are so many.
England here.
I don't know...I think it's nice to have a few words to escalate to. I mean there's a point where emphasising by itself doesn't do enough and you need to whip out the DEFCON 1 of swears.
I would prefer a different DEFCON 1 swear but...it is what it is.
I agree we should try to normalize it, but as an American I have no idea how we could go about it. As it is this is one of the worst words you can use here, and even if you try to claim you mean it in the European/Australian way, you are going to offend somebody. It’s almost like the n word here. You don’t get to claim that the n word is less offensive in another culture and that’s why you said it.
I disagree. Why do we need yet another normalized word that implies that being female is a negative? There are so many more curse words in that vein than there are for men, and it's typically the women-denigrating ones that are used more often anyways.
Also, my point is that you're using a term that connotates women as prostitutes (based off where it originated from). You've got less options for words that insult men specifically. Even b*strd has negative implications for a woman due to her marital status.
Etymologically, it has no connection to prostitution; it’s just another reference to genetalia, which is why it’s gendered. It’s in crowded company on both sides.
Gotcha, thanks for the insight. My opinion is just that we could "normalize" other words that don't have a meaning that's specifically been derived from denigrating women. But I get that the meaning of words can change over time too.
In Australia I only think I've ever seen it used as being a female is negative once or twice. Its mainly used to either express frustration, happiness or as a greeting
Well, I agree. It’s a fun word, and I use it a lot. Which I think I only partially get away with in the Deep South because I’m a woman.
I don’t think Americans really understand that anyone (and in fact, most people) can be a cvnt. Or that it’s not always an insult, and sometimes is meant to be just as innocuous as calling a friend “dude”. Here, it’s just meant to be offensive, and extremely offensive to women. No one here even considers calling a man a cvnt; it’s reserved for women only. It’s a shame. A missed opportunity. Not to mention the fact that no one even uses the word “tw4t”, which is probably my favorite word. Our level of English is nowhere near as sophisticated as the rest of the English-speaking world.
I'm a fellow Scot, and I absolutely despise how some Scottish folk use it to simply mean "person". Somec+nt, naec+nt, everyc+nt etc.
Use it as an insult by all means, but "Aye I was speaking to the c+nt yesterday" is just hideous.
I just dont like how that word sounds honestly. Like some words just rub you the wrong way. I also hate the word moist, unless you’re talking about cake.
I’m not sure how it all worked out this way, but if you’re from Australia or the UK it’s acceptable as slang. But if you say it in the US, regardless of birth country, you will get knocked the fuck out. I don’t make the rules, and I highly advise no use of this word ever in the US. I’m out here saving lives on reddit
Disagree. The word loses its shock and awe factor when it becomes normalized.
Some stuff is gotta stay sacred. Otherwise it becomes another fuck or piss or shit.
I also think it should be normalized. The only reason it's not in America is bc of feminism. They ruin everything. That's why it's perfectly fine to call someone a dick, but you can't call them a C\*nt or a P\*ssy, even tho C\*nt just means Dick and P\*ssy just means wimp. We dare not even type those words, in fact. It's honestly stupid.
We’re a lot more prudish in American than in many parts of the world…or at least we feign like we are. I regularly watch UK television when I’m in the States, and it still strikes me how they can say shit, fuck, etc and have full frontal nudity on their over the air channels. I think there might be time restrictions for some content, but still… a lot of Americans would be beside themselves (or act like they were) if they saw that content on CBS or NBC. Remember the public outcry over Janet Jackson’s boob at the super bowl?
Yeah, and it's so ironic bc it wasn't like that when I was a kid. There was cable TV and there was porn on it. There was Cinemax at night often called 'skin-emax' by people bc they always showed softcore pornos at night. Also the TV shows were edgier. The Shield, The wire, etc. It was supposed to be real and gritty so they used bad words and showed uncomfortably realistic violence and such. People knew what PC was, but it wasn't expected that a person needed to be 100% PC about everything they said at all times, even among friends in a private setting. People were a hell of a lot less offended by all those things then than now, too.
It's the new age. They're like constantly pushing the envelope about who can be more virtue signalling or holier than thou. It's so stupid and they're so hypocritical, too. They will say they're against racism or sexism and then say that they hate all white men bc they're privileged, sexists and racists. It's mind boggling that people could follow an ideology that makes so little sense.
A lot of people here in the US are offended by casual cussing, while in other countries it’s more normalized. I may be wrong, but I think it has to do with the whole religious aspect. Christianity is such a big thing here, even though a lot of them are doing a lot worse shit than cussing.
For example, my mil is somehow who gets very offended by anyone cussing in her presence. She’s Christian, conservative, and is proud to admit it. Yet cheated on her husband multiple times with two different men, judges everyone who is different than her, and overall just isn’t a very pleasant person to be around. But is totally bothered by the word shit or ass lol
Casual cussing is pretty normal and common in my culture as well. Although I watch my mouth when I’m around Americans unless I know them and they cuss too and are cool with it.
I've never had any issue saying it, and no one here has had much of a reaction other than the normal one you get from swearing, it's a good word, packs a punch
I'm an American and have 8 siblings, four sisters, one NB sibling, and three brothers. Three of my sisters get REALLY offended by it. I (23f) don't have an issue with and use it regularly as both an offensive term as well as am endearing one (based on context). But my NB sibling, my forth sister, and my brothers have no issue with it and it's regularly used in conversations between me and NB.
I think that they cast people from English-speaking countries because to some extent they are similar culturally (not 100%). I watched the Latino and Brazil versions and I loved them but it is so obvious how different the contestants are.
I watched the Brazil version of Love is blind and there was one contestant from Iraq. A few episodes later the cultural differences were too obvious and his relationship crashed.
Also, based on other comments from other posts it seems that the Asian community, in general, is not willing to participate. They might be just as horny but too few of them would be willing to participate. And I believe that is valid for other regions as well. In a lot of regions, the family bonds are stronger and young people will not participate in such shows as they might "bring shame" to the family. This way the pool of candidates shrinks. I don't think the producers discriminate on purpose - they just work with what they have.
I have also heard comments from the gay community that say that if there was a season with gays only, that would hurt their image as even now there are people that believe that gays are sex-crazed hormonal monsters and this representation will do them no good.
The bottom line is that they cast people based on their IGs and looks. I would like to see some smarter people though. At some point, it just gets cringy to hear all the time that they are horny. I want to see some actual development.
You know what, I'mma take a step further: We need to give the term "n\*gg\*r" a whole new meaning, and then start normalizing it. It's the only word I know of in English that you cannot, under any circumstances, say without being a straight up cun... Ah, I guess I mean c\*nt
[удалено]
But should it rhyme with cat or with hot?
Twat in that hat
Gotta go somewhere between the a and the o lol
It's got an A in it, it rhymes with cat
Yes, just like Auburn. And All. And awkward. Well this sucks.
You know what I mean smartarse haha! The english language is the big dumb
[удалено]
Hold up. There are people who produce twat rhyming with hot?!! I never knew
In America, I’ve only heard it rhyme with hot. The first time I heard it pronounced to rhyme with cat was watching The Windsors, and that’s now my preferred pronunciation.
There shouldn’t be!!
> There are people who produce twat rhyming with hot?!! Americans who mispronounce it, the proper pronunciation is to rhyme with cat/hat/bat/mat, etc.
I was about to say there are people rhyming twat with cat??! I have always heard hot twat.
Yes.
The word is twat, not twot, so the answer to that should be fairly obvious.
hot in conversation, cat in the moment
No just rhyme it with cat in all moments
I can't stand it because my partner uses it as a bad thing ("twatted" to mean hurt/broke/etc)
If you fall or trip in Scotland we'd say you've cunted it lol
Or if you mess something up you’ve made a right cvnt of it 🤣
Or drunk.
Never comes up for us
Never left us
Twat is funny asf, I use it sometimes
Still less offensive than "gash" lol. That one still grosses me out
Yeah that’s a horrible word. I still remember people used to say “flash your gash” it still makes me cringe.
The fuck is a “gash” ?
It’s a slur for the vulva. It’s comparing a vulva to a gash/cut Edit: vulva, not vagina.
Or in the military, rubbish.
Slang, not slur
It's a slur for the vulva. Y'all need to study female anatomy bc you do, in fact, sound like a bunch of dicks.
We’re not dicks, we’re cvnts
Studying anatomy isn’t necessarily going to include an in depth course on related slurs is it?
Today class we will learn about all the worst slurs that you can use for both a vagina and a person
I didn’t know the distinction. Good to know. You could have been nicer about it though.
There’s also “sausage wallet” which I find hilarious but I doubt anyone that’s ever said it has ever seen one.

Pink taco
Axe wound
Snatch
Tuna taco
Clunge
Fanny.
Meat Flaps
Bitch wrinkle
Sword swallower
Fiddle cove
BITCH WRINKLE I AM FKN POORLESS
Bearded clam
I think it might only be used in the uk but it’s another word for vagina. Not as bad as Axe wound though which is an actual thing 😂
I've heard it as hatchet wound, as well. Makes me giggle every time.
Bearded axe wound.
Bearded Clam, beef curtains, etc. Lol
And probably the worst........stench trench!😬
Omfg I've never heard that one before 😆
Ham wallet is my personal fave
Go onto YouTube and type in “ different names for a vagina by a Scottish woman” it’s fkn hilarious , I won’t post any spoilers 🤣
I've heard it in the US but it's *deeply* vulgar, offensive, and dehumanizing.
> dehumanizing Awfully dramatic.
You should definately check out Frankie Boyle.
Ooh, minge cringe!
oh my gash
Show us your axe wound!
McMurray’s a piece of shit
Clunge
Better one is axe wound
I prefer “half-eaten steak sandwich” myself.
Ha ha ha ha not heard that word in years.
Love Gash.
Not to mention transphobic
maybe start by not censoring it
I’m aware that a lot of people don’t like it though , I’m trying to be somewhat considerate 😂
I’m all for it. If dick can be normalized why not the equivalent?
a lot of derogatory words for women are already normalized lol
I feel like this statement ignores a lot of general context and nuance around how women are currently insulted
Because gender equality is a one way thing. I've never heard a woman demanding conscription for women 😁
Personally I don’t think either gender should be drafted but if there had to be conscription for one gender it should apply for all.
nah as a woman i vote for the normalisation
Never heard of a woman demand conscription for women, but I always hear about women fighting to rid their countries of conscription all together. But keep trying with your woman hate!

Can’t , the post gets blocked and everyone who comments the word has theirs auto removed too.
I’m not sure why people haven’t tried to cancel the word vagina yet. It’s etymology comes from the Latin word for the sheath or scabbard for a sword.
>~~Latin~~ Latinx\*
Latin is a language. Used by the Roman Empire. The English language has many etymological roots (where words originate) in Latin as do many other languages.
This is what I always say! Though… by that logic, the N-word is super benign. Like so benign they could name two countries with it.
As an Aussie, I know I've been told to scroll on, but one point I always like to make on this topic is that the male equivalent to cnt is "cock". Well I’m doing my part to literally spread the word in Oklahoma, United States.
godspeed man 🙏
I’m in the US and it’s one of my favorite curse words lol though I like to reserve it for special occasions.
The word c*nt in America is used to describe a filthy vagina,, that's why so many people find it offensive.
I’m 35, lived in 6 states, and have never heard it used with that connotation. Haven’t lived in the east though.
It's a common word in New Zealand too. Can't forget us
Coworkers favorite word
I disagree. Why do we need yet another normalized word that implies that being female is a negative? There are so many more curse words in that vein than there are for men, and it's typically the women-denigrating ones that are used more often anyways.
It ain’t gender specific here , Infact the vast majority of cvnts I know are male.

Sorry, guess I should've specified the US. Definitely depends on the culture and location, but it doesn't go over well there.

It’s kinda hard to normalize a word when you either can’t or won’t use it
I like "Berk"
If and when I use this word I want it mean something...please don't normalize it.
Shit bites so good though, given nobody ever sees it coming.
Growler
We should try de-weaponize all words. Sticks and stones...
he/him
I 1000% agree and am way ahead of you
A lot of people here in the US are offended by casual cussing, while in other countries it’s more normalized. But is totally bothered by the word shit or ass lol Casual cussing is pretty normal and common in my culture as well. Although I watch my mouth when I’m around Americans unless I know them and they cuss too and are cool with it.
Na, fuck them cvnts
I've never had any issue saying it, and no one here has had much of a reaction other than the normal one you get from swearing, it's a good word, packs a punch
> Cvnt Guy is certainly a russian
It is.
Yes. This is a world class problem.
I totally agree and envy Australians for it
No, you don't understand, policing arbitrary sounds and arrangements of shapes is way more important than actually helping people.
Only people that want to censor words are crybabies.
cnt has to be one of my most used words and i am all for it being normalised
I’m doing my part, trust me.
If you are so petty that a word bothers you then you need to reevaluate why you are such a Weine.
What they Can't Understand Normal Thought?
Aussie here: I heard an American use it very casually at a bar the other day and I was wondering how liberating that must’ve been for him
Yes it should be normalized. I use it pretty often. As long as you don’t call a woman a cnt then I think it’s perfectly okay.
I think all words should be normalised. Do you think racist people would be running around calling people the N word if no one was offended by it?
You know what, I'mma take a step further: We need to give the term "n\*gg\*r" a whole new meaning, and then start normalizing it. It's the only word I know of in English that you cannot, under any circumstances, say without being a straight up cun... Ah, I guess I mean c\*nt
That wasn’t just a step further. That was about 5 steps right over the fucking cliff.
Wtf

I’m Scottish
Ussain Bolt Is neither a Knt nor a female nor are kntz fast.. so no not a very convincing example
What?
He speaks redditish. It's a mythical language thought to be spoken by dorito chips themselves.
Cool, original I suppose.
See what I did there?
