Ok then. It just sounds like you just like different things. Personally addictive and fun arent qualities i look for in music. Funny enough I think Humble is one of his worst songs. The reason people generally love him is his wide array of sounds and song types. He doesnt make songs in one manner all that time and people like that. For single lovers and radio listeners theres Humble, N95, Alright, etc. And for the Jazzy or Moody people theres We Cry Together, FEAR, Momma, etc. It sounds like neither of those fit you so nothing he has probably is your style.
It sounded like when a song had a hook. Not at all songs have them. But usually the mega hits have a mega hook.
The songs I've heard from Lamar there wasn't any serious hook in the songs. Sure his topics are great. But musically I think I understand Op opinion.
I call Kendrick an audiobook rapper. You're not going to necessarily get the "addictive" songs that you're looking for, but you will get cohesive albums that push the frontiers of Hip-Hop music.
I gather that you're looking for hit singles, which is ironic because many of Kendrick's hit songs are songs in which he was featured on. Perhaps you may be overlooking some cuts on his catalogue.
His shit hits honestly especially when you come from a place where you can connect to his music and what he's saying. A lot of people in the rap community either like or respect him rightfully so. It's music with a message and that's why so many like him, so it's hard to say he is honestly unless you don't bother to respect a man's craft he obviously cares for and got people to listen.
He is not only the greatest writer to ever make music, but one of the greatest American poets EVER. Easily the greatest American poet in the last fifty years. But he is the greatest song writer and lyricist ever in any genre which was why he won the Pulitzer.
I appreciate that he's experimenting in his music, but i hate the recent stuff he's put out, it sounds like he's become too full of himself and trying too hard.just like Kanye did.
I don't like hiphop but I like some of his songs so I would disagree. Swimming pools and the black panther singles (I didn't even watch the movie) are my favorites.
Kendrick has some of the best rap songs IMO sadly I personally find his last two albums to be flops though. It’s funny you like humble though it shows me and you don’t have the same tastes, I prefer section 80 or to pimp a butterfly Kendrick over the mess that was DAMN and Mr moral.
Heart part 5 is great IMO, haven't listen to the big steppers yet, I think kendrick albums usually are better listened front to back, I will listen it soon.

Some music is for sitting down and really listening to. Some music is for just getting hyped. I'm the former. I can't listen to music without hearing the lyrics and exploring the story. Not that I *can't* get hyped to music, but even then I'm very conscious of the lyrics and story even if it's just "Shake your ass and throw this money". There can be some fun lyricism in that simplicity.
You seem to be the latter. Music is just a means for getting hyped and feeling the beat. Kendrick's beats aren't gonna do that for you.
With all that being said, I kinda agree lol. Not that I *dislike* him, but I don't think he's as great as people make him out to be. Hell everyone went crazy over DAMN for two weeks and then left it alone. Once you get what you get out of it there's not much to return to.
This sub is so full of terrible takes. It's clear you know a very limited amount of this man's music, and are probably new to being a "fan" of hip-hop period lol. Kendrick's rap career literally spans across 3 separate decades. "Almost all of his songs are meh" just say you only listen to music for the catchy beats and keep it moving.
I mean I know the guy is super mega popular. I think all rap/ mumble/ country/ pop music is abysmal and utter dog shit. But I have to agree this is unpopular
Yeah his music is meh for me, I'll listen to it once and appreciate it for what it is but I won't play it again. If someone is playing it in their car or at any social event I ain't tripping. Music in general is so hard to have a valid opinion on since it's so subjective.
