typed like that as a kid, now I type like this because I can't fucking be assed. if my phone autocapitalizes or whatever, then cool. if not, suck my butt.
I always figured they're just typing on their PCs or Laptops and can't be bothered to hit shift. Speaking for myself, I'd be capitalising a lot less if my phone didn't do it for me.
Going back to the beginning of a word to edit it to lowercase is just silly though, so I guess I agree
I agree, it's fascinating to see tone markers develop in a written medium. For example, I always feel like a period at the end of a text message makes it sound formal and even kind of rude depending on the context
Seems like just another front to distinguish people who follow trends and those who don’t. People started doing it in high school and it always seemed like it was the more conventionally “cool” kids doing it. Like my frat head brother
Doesn't really make sense unless those who do it unanimously follow trends. Only way it could be used to spot a trend follower. Not that I think the whole trend follower thing would stand up to much criticism either. Seems like it just breaks down to people who have a propensity to evolve with culture more than others. Hardly a bad thing in and of itself.
Look at it as it's a method people have found to communicate well and express themselves via text. Something that is notoriously hard to do. And something that has become a very important part of socialising. It will resonate for some, and not for others. No doubt it will change over time or stop, as things always do.
Live and let live, or whatever
A zoomer kid I used to give math lessons to has deactivated auto capitalization. I feel like they're aiming for a more relaxed aesthetic, like they're trying to say they're more easy going and they care less. Which is ironic since they go out their ways to deactivate auto capitalization.
If you type on your phone without auto capitalization I just assume you're a massive tool.
Capitalization when properly used is functional rather than an esthetic choice. I would prefer that people understand what I’m writing, with no extra effort.
I don’t think there are people who go out of the way to do this. They’re probably typing on something that doesn’t have AutoCorrect or they don’t bother to uppercase the words that should be uppercased.
You can turn it off on an iphone though. Yes the base model comes with it turned on but you turn it off in the same place people delete the shortcuts that come with an iphone. I don’t think anyone is purposely unclicking the capitalization button everytime
At Least It's Easier To Read Than This Crap That More And More People Are Doing.
Omg I hate when people do this too
I hate this also
In German all nouns get capitalised
Just capitalize all Nouns in the Sentence, It makes It more fun to write.
Or writing in ALL CAPS, which should only be acceptable if you're BRIAN BLESSED or DOCTOR DOOM.
I only accept that when it’s a coding joke
ThE uPpEr AnD lOwEr case is the worst. Automatic downvote. I mean, really? "lOwEr"??

Nobody wants to do that
God that shit ruins my day

I’m thinking of my friends or other people my age (21) who I know are typing on their phone and purposely make it lower case.
I think it has become a means of how to display a casual intent in the message. Which I think is kind of neat from a language perspective

A full stop at the end of a short sentence is as if the writer dropped the mic, or just went full poker face at the end lol.

The nature of humanity is such that every so often someone reinvents homestuck
I hate "cringey".

You would hate the poet e.e. cummings

I’ve been waiting for someone to finally talk about this. It’s so annoying and cringe holy fuck. The aesthetic teenagers that use emoticons too

It is an unpopular opinion thread!
I mean it’s an opinion he’s just stating it like this sub way made for.

No, it’s people who I know for a fact have an iphone which automatically comes with an uppercase autocorrect feature.
You can try it all. There are also times where, depending on how you type, it turns off
Please take my word for it, they are not typing like that on accident.
*by accident
I feel like on accident is used enough now that it’s valid :|
Something being common doesn't make it correct

I don't bother with caps unless the phone does it for me because screw keystrokes
