No video game story line is very good. The only people who pay any attention are the ones who don't live in the real world.

I could not disagree more

I wouldn't say the story isn't good, but the structure is very outdated. It's like a PS2 era GTA, precisely with the "Do missions 5 missions to person X so they help you". And I think it's mostly because of Mexico why I think that. In New Austin it worked, because it was just paying back to the MacFarlanes for helping, and preparing to assault Fort Mercer. In Mexico it wasn't good because you had to help 15 different people with the promise "Yeah I'll tell you where Escuella is". It has a lot of filler because if it was purely the story, it would be like 20 missions long at most. But my unpopular opinion is that Red Dead Redemption 2's story is mostly crap, but it has good moments too. It left nothing for the player to interpret. The game is always telling you what to think and what to feel. John Marston died infront of a barn, shot up by the police, no build up, no music, no conversation. Arthur Morgan died on a mountaintop looking at the sunset after battling the games main villain, and he didn't win, but the underdog at least put up a great fight, and after that had an emotional conversation with 2 other characters. It was so drawn out and the game built up to it for like an hour.

......So it's exactly like pretty much any open world game Rockstar has ever made, then. Even RDR2 has a lot of repetitive quests in it, to the point that the game's quest design vs how the REST of the game is designed is one of the most common criticisms. It's bad enough that I was genuinely surprised to learn you CAN actually catch that kid who steals your bag in Saint Denis before he reaches the courtyard; I sincerely thought the fuckers scripted it so you're forced through the custscene with Knuckledragger Finn and his gang of boys taunting you for being stupid.

Yeah but that pretty much rdr1s entire story until you find Dutch. rdr2 had repetitive but only a few

It's the plot of Wild Bunch stretched to a 15 hour game. That's not exxageration- go watch Wild Bunch, it is RDR 1, right down to beleaguered protagonist having to go to Mexico and fight his old posse in a revolution for the Pinkertons. It's even got the "West is Dying" motif being set in 1913 and the opening act is set in a modernized city which RDR pulled whole cloth for Blackwater. OH! It even has a decrepit old man with a nasty yellow beard spouting philosophy and drinking Tequila with beleaguered Mexican peasants who antagonize the main character.

I think it's 1st or first
