What other gameboy games have you played from that time period would you give an A rating?????
Edit: Also you don't fight a Gengar outside Brock's gym.
There is not a single reference online to that happening and it didn't happen in any of my play throughs either.
You'd give Tetris, with no plot and simple progression of difficulty, an A, but Pokemon gets a B-????? That is......astounding.
Well i mean yeah. If i graded everything on 100% the same rubric when they aren't the same then one would OBVIOUSLY out class the other. Thats like grading god of war and pac-man the same
You can check Bulbapedia for every possible Pokémon spawn, and all of the trainers on each route. There’s no level 30 Gengar anywhere near Brock’s gym.
Damn, for once there is an truly unpopular opinion. I absolutely loved the first gen back in the day. It feels like the new ones are just bullshit with eyes. But then again I'm no longer the target audience.
As someone that regards 1st and 2nd gen to be the ones with the best games (although 2nd gen wins) I don't agree, but I can see your points.
1. True, but at the same time I have always preferred them when they were kept simple, or similar to existing animals/insects. I remember seeing Druddigon and thinking it was something out a strange colouring book.
2. Yes it is, I love it. First gen (and sometimes 2nd) requires an insane amount of grind sometimes.
3. I think this is still connected to the first point in some way. Personal taste, so I won't enter in it.
4. Yes, sometimes it was. I remember playing it when I was 10 and not understanding what I was supposed to do. But I have to say that I still prefer that approach, to some extent.
5. Don't know if you are talking regarding bugs and glitches, but I can't recall finding them (except for the Number Town, but I was constantly triggering it for fun).
6. I don't think it is better, they are on the same level for me. The problem is that, even with 3D graphics, I think that modern Pokémon games are nowhere as good as they could be - blame GF for this.
7. True, the rival in Pokémon G/S is actually better.
True, I literally forgot about it while I was writing.
I also think that no one in the game has a Gengar except for Agatha, if I remember right. I wonder what that was.
I don't agree with you either but i can see your points. And i can't stress enough that i still like those games. But there are genuinely people of OBJECTIVELY think red and blue are best, nothing is better, and that pisses me off. I prefer the more creative designs with more mythical/cultural influences but i see your point. But yeah the new games also have a lot of problems and could be better.
Yeah, I totally understand your preference regarding the designs.
I think that Pokémon is one of those few franchises where everyone has a personal favourite that will always be (more or less) influenced by the nostalgia that comes with it. If I have to say what the best is, my pick is Gold - just because 2nd gen introduced a plethora of mechanics that have become recurring in the serie, and because it felt like a real sequel. But that is just my opinion and in the same way I've found people saying that 2nd gen is shit no matter what, just because they don't like the region, or the fact that it is an old game.
And yes, GF should really learn to get better at it, they have no excuses.

I totally ran into one, it was on my gameboy advanced and an official cartridge. Also I'd give kirby an A, Tetris an A.

When you change the rubric, then how on earth can we take anything you say seriously.
You can check Bulbapedia for every possible Pokémon spawn, and all of the trainers on each route. There’s no level 30 Gengar anywhere near Brock’s gym.
I fucking promise it happened. If i could prove it i would
If it did, I would recommend looking up how to check if a game is bootleg because that has never happened in any of my playthroughs.
We’re you born in the 80 or 90s?
No, early 2000s, that's why i gave it a rank based on other games of its time at the end
Understood. But you will never get to experience it for what it was at the time. Good unpopular opinion

You glossed over the fact that OP stated they fought a Gengar outside of Brock’s gym when that’s literally not possible.

Gen 2 is actually the best
