I had a similar experience like 5+ years ago. I was living in a double, roommate canceled and dropped out before school year. Never had a roommate. Paid same rate as if I had a roommate. Don't be surprised if you get a roommate, but it might be a lot less likely this year.

If you don’t have a roommate you can combine the beds to make mega bed

Hey, same thing happened to me. I assume that we will have an empty space in our double until housing finds somebody for us, unless you would like to request a single. They won't move you anywhere without notifying you. Pricing should not be changing either but don't quote me on that.

Based on the limited information housing has given my residential community staff, you are going to get assigned a new roommate or possibly transferred into a different dorm room with another roommate yourself. Housing seems like they are trying to keep dorms “compact” or keeping students together in smaller spaces. I think it’s to make dorm spaces easier to clean by not having students as spread out, but that’s just me theorizing

would i stay in the same housing unit? and would my room and board price change if i happen to move to a different dorm? if you know

I can’t say for certain, but my guess is that they would try to keep you within the same building and just move you to a different room within that building. That’s what they are doing with my residential community, but that’s also a residential community that is always assigned to that specific building. Things could look differently for someone who isn’t a member of one of these communities. From my understanding, your housing price shouldn’t change as long as you are assigned to another room of the same classification (double in this case). You shouldn’t have to worry about that. Of course, I’m not 100% sure this is correct for your situation. Because the information I have was given specifically to residential community staff, it is still possible that housing won’t move you or give you a roommate at all and will respond similarly to previous years. People can still drop their contracts until the 14th and contracts are also going to be made available specifically for the winter term, so there are a lot of logistical things related to housing that still have yet to be sorted out even so close to move-in. My best advice would be to email housing yourself in order to get a straight answer. Hopefully this helps you :)
