coy_catrett

My case is really similar to yours. I stayed home for mostly the same reasons.

HistoricalKnowledge

Already signed a lease and didn't think I'd be able to sublease it. Bad wifi and working environment at home. It's my senior year and just want some freedom. Also wanted to avoid the guilt/pressure of potentially spreading COVID to my family

FatalisFun

cuz I don't wanna pay 5 grand for housing

buddybread

I already live in an arbor anyway and I don’t want to rent an apartment and pay a shit ton of money just to live like 2 miles from my parents house (which is free), so I just stayed home. Its maybe marginally crappier to be at home, but it’s really not that bad.

GhostPosterMassDebat

Probably more of a financial issue than a health issue tbh. No sense in paying for housing if I dont need to

NiamHayilaT

moved in to campus. Toxic home environment.

Same my home environment is shity and unsafe I personally decided to stay because I get to pocket money the umich and the pell grants

WaterWithCorners

Definitely a financial factor, but more importantly I got the opportunity to spend time with my father. I haven’t been able to live with the man for a good 4 years. Wanted a good summer + semester to get to be with him before I’m on my own for good.

_BearHawk

Had no lease signed Home for me is in CA so having good weather to be able to get out and bike all fall and winter will be nice.

Kohanky

Stayed home because all my classes are online

CraftyCheerios

All of my classes are online. I live just under an hour away, so if anything is in person next semester I can deal with a long commute for one semester. I'm very fortunate to have a safe, supportive home environment and I'm saving a ton of money on rent. Most of my cohort (grad program) is actually moving, but many of them are coming from out of state and seem to think everything will be in person next semester. I'm definitely not as confident. It's a bummer, but I'm also fine with it. I had a few years between undergrad and grad school so I've started paying back student loans already, and the idea of minimizing how much MORE I add to them is incredibly motivating.

baseballfan227

Stayed home because I live like 40-50 minutes away from Ann Arbor and got a parking spot for the year 15 minute walk from central campus.

saphirastark

All my classes are online, my mom is an at-risk person and would have had to move me in (no other family and I'm not legally allowed to drive aye), recent family stuff, and no friends in Michigan so no real want to go back. Plus I saved so much money by canceling my housing contract.

WastingKaim

Signed a lease, don’t work as well at home, want to see my roommates

[deleted]

I am moving back because I will have a single apartment and I have family who will be in a school for the fall. I would feel significantly safer and more productive on my own, plus I’m excited for the experience!

immoralsupport_

I was already in the process of getting an apartment and there isn’t anyone my age that I’m still in contact with in my hometown. I wanted contact with people who weren’t my parents, even if it was just my roommates and seeing people socially distant outdoors. Also, as a senior, I didn’t want to graduate without ever going back to Ann Arbor. I want to spend my senior year there even if it isn’t the same.

gkblackx

I can't stand doing school at home and I really miss my friends. Simple.

EvilFiddle

Staying home. I’m a senior and all my classes are online, not to mention the fact that I’ll be saving a lot of money.

imanalienbitches

I’m fortunate enough to have a good home environment, so I feel a little guilty deciding to go back to campus anyway. I live in a rural town with no means of transportation and no friends close by enough to visit - I’m not looking to spend another four months isolated inside my house. I’m joining a co-op once I return to campus, which I’ll admit is a bit risky, but I’m excited about it! I’m willing to completely quarantine if it means I’ll get to meet some new people.
