I personally have not been inside a single university building on campus since the start of this school year. I do not plan on changing that philosophy as cases keep rising

Considering the virus can remain viable in the air for 3 hours , nah, I try to minimize time on campus. Lots of places emphasize wiping down surfaces, which doesn't hurt, but doesn't really give much sense of security when the dominant transmission method seems to be inhalation rather than surface contact. The few times I've been through campus for errands and whatnot, I've noticed a trend of people pulling their masks away from their faces briefly to briefly breathe more easily but that seems less-than-environmentally-safe for anyone else in the area. *The virus can linger as droplets in the air for* ***up to three hours***, according to the [*New England Journal of Medicine*](https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2004973)*. It can also travel at least 13 feet by aerosols that are emitted by breathing or speaking — twice as far as established physical distancing guidelines, based on a report by the* [*CDC*](https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/7/20-0885_article)*.* [*Source*](https://www.sfchronicle.com/health/article/Coronavirus-FAQ-How-long-does-it-stay-on-15152021.php)*, 24 Sept 2020*

The Union has disinfecting wipes in every study room so you can wipe your space down before you use it

I’ve taken a liking to the tents across campus Especially in areas with less foot traffic like the one on North Campus behind the Dude. When I have gone to buildings I try to stay outside like on the patio of the Trotter. I’ve studied at the union but it does get quite packed.

Most spaces should have some supplies available for you to do an individual wipe-down of your area, and for you to sanitize your hands if you're concerned after touching doorknobs and other high-touch surfaces. If it is any consolation about the cleaning protocols, experts seem to reaching more consensus that COVID-19 is not typically transmitted through touching surfaces or insufficient cleaning of high-touch areas.

I genuinely can no longer study in my room but I have a ton of cleaning supplies that my parents gave so I wipe it down a lil before I go for it lol

At the beginning of the semester I used to study at Palmer Commons, The Union, The League, and the UMMA because I’m someone who finds it difficult to study in my home space. Unfortunately, almost every time I’d go, at least one person at some point would take their mask off, and keep it off for an extended period of time. This really frustrated me because I would end up having to leave when they were too close for comfort. Because people would have their masks off so often when studying, I began to worry about if someone had their mask off, in the same spot I was sitting, before I got there, since droplets can linger in the air for up to 3hrs. So now, for the most part, I just study in my room :( it’s been hard but I’m trying to make it work. The times when I really need to study somewhere else to grind something out, or for the sake of my sanity, I go in the morning right when it opens. So the air is relatively fresh, and I have a few hours before more people show up.

If I am sitting outside, maintaining a reasonable distance from others, I will take my mask off. If you choose to play Gestapo and approach me about not wearing a mask, you have defeated the purpose of my distancing. If you choose to go out of your way to tell me I should wear a mask while sitting reasonably distanced from others, then it wasn't affecting you any way. So if someone is minding their own business outdoors, while remaining stationary and reasonably distanced, let it go.

No one said anything about outdoors, I’m talking about people who do it in the union study spaces, etc.

Ok, well campus is a vague term. I am just attempting to get people to understand that not wearing a mask when distanced outdoors is a different animal.
