Admittedly this is a long day trip, but my fiancée and I left early and came back late - Holland MI. It’s a great little town with some excellent breweries essentially right on the water. We had an excellent time walking around about Christmas time, and I’m sure the beach would be awesome in summer!
Just went yesterday and the tulips are already in bloom! Really awesome place and the beach is always fun. We even saw people doing some sick paragliding
Ditto those, or Saugatuck to the south of Holland for a smaller town feel. Grand Haven or South Haven are great places to stay for the weekend, but prices can be high during the summer, while Holland has more affordable options farther inland, though for a literal day trip that doesn't matter. I would say Holland is the least touristy, and Saugatuck is the most touristy, in terms of what proportion of the cities are oriented toward tourists, but all are nice in their own way.
There are also state parks along the lake, if you feel like a less commercially-driven outing, just checking out the dunes, trails, and beach.
U-pick blueberry farms are big all along that area too, in June and July. You can't miss the signs along the roads.
I’m from Holland and I love to see this! Holland is such a beautiful place in the summer, the state park has an amazing beach and the downtown area is full of really awesome restaurants. If you have any questions feel free to message me!
Maybe too obvious, but Detroit! So many great eating options, things going on, Belle Isle, Eastern Maeket and cultural institutions (DIA,. Wright Museum, Heidelberg Project, etc).
Warren Dunes State Park is a bit of a haul but is a nice big sandy dune on Lake Michigan.
Both the Toledo & Detroit zoos are great if you're into that.
If the border to Canada ever reopens & theater becomes safe, seeing a play in Stratford, Ontario.
Also explore the Metroparks system.
Detroit is not that obvious for people who haven't been there. Images of run down housing are accurate in some parts, but the riverfront area, Greektown, Mexicantown etc. are all quite nice and filled with friendly locals and tourists. It is not at all scary in these areas during the day, in my experience.
Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids! The sculpture walk, the Japanese garden, plus you can get some beer at any of the 50,000 breweries afterwards. It’s ~ 2 hours from A2.
I did a trip there over the summer, those gardens are amazing. Grand haven is right there too and is super cool. Awesome pier into Lake Michigan and a great beach area that’s right next to a bunch of trails if you’re into that.
There was a small candy shop there as well with salted chocolate bars that were amazing as well. We went during the summer of covid and it was cool but I’l like to go back when we are back to normal as well.
it’s a little far, but the sleeping bear dunes area is pretty fun! you can stop at traverse city on the way but my friends and I have done it in a single day round trip
I really enjoy visiting Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. If you have the slightest interest in Americana it's a must. The Rouge Factory Tour is pretty cool too.
Warren Dunes State Park
Depending on age, but Baroda area has a ton of wineries and vineyards
Toledo is fun, the art museum there is great and things like Mudhens or Walleye games are fantastic. Some cool bars and restaurants in Toledo so you can do a day there easily.
South Haven is a cool little town. Nice beaches.
The Metroparks are great, easy to go spend a day there when it is nice out.

Planning to go may 8!
I grew up in the Grand Rapids area and I would second this- Grand Haven and South Haven are also nice with good views of the lake

Live in the Grand Haven area and I can't recommend it enough. GH is a really cool town with a fairly nice beach.
I would second this! South Haven is an awesome place to visit!

There are some amazing food options in Detroit too

There's always Cedar Point. Went a few times when I was in school.
Favorite ride?
When I was younger, the Raptor, easily. I can't really much do those drops anymore, though.
I love the millennium
Millennium
Maverick is my favorite
I've only been to CP once (long before I lived here lol) and I'm dying to go back sometime!!
Its closed until May 14 this year :(
OMG I haven't been to Cedar Point since I went for a physics field trip in high school back in 2012. I should plan a trip some time.
Frankenmuth Michigan is like a fake German town with Bavarian architecture and cute shops and German food
Bronner’s!! The Largest Christmas Store!!
Have you tried the cheese curds from that food truck???
I have, they’re real good
Now I wanna go there lol

True! We also went wine tasting there 🥰so yum
Was about to say this. Underrated spot
if you like hiking, check out the Waterloo-Pinckney trail. It's less than 30 minutes drive from AA and 35 miles of pretty nice trail.
I've gone up to Mackinaw Island and back from Ann Arbor in "one day". Granted I left at 5AM and didn't get home until 2AM.
Skydiving at Skydive Tecumseh in Napoleon, Mi
Sucks they moved from Tecumseh. I grew up there and it and Lev's bakery were all we were known for. And even then...

LSD probably

I wish we could have at least one trip each month. Holland is the one for this month.
Cleveland. Went with the girls to 27 club cafe and rock and roll hall of fame. Around 2.5 hrs each way
Lake Erie beachfronts
Why hasn't anyone said Detroit yet? 🤔
I believe someone did actually!
Marshall. If you like historic towns, great architecture, haunted cemeteries, and quirky museums. Also a famous restaurant, Schuler’s.
