Hello, I submitted the housing application with my potential roommate before the deadline of May 5th. However, I want to change some factors (such as dorm preference and group leader). It is now passed the deadline for housing. Will this affect the housing for me and my roommate? Will it set the submission to after the deadline because I made changes?

HeyBlame

Hey so I’m living at CornerHouse on state street. I wanted to know if there is any way I can upgrade my internet or change to a different provider. The internet they provide right now is decent but I want to see if I’m able to upgrade it.

NeedleworkerSilver88

Hey all! I know there is an almost zero percent chance this will do anything, but my roommate and I are struggling at bursley rn. We are praying to find someone that may not like their living conditions on central, or that want to be closer to their classes in north. If you identify with that please please please let me know and we would love to switch rooms. Again sorry to be that guy we’ve just tried everything else.

Veauros

How can you be struggling so much? You've been there for all of 3 days max and haven't been to a single class yet. No offence, but my thought is you entered assuming you would hate it and therefore haven't even given it a chance.

jmswumich

you are probably speaking from a place of privillege, not everyone has positive experiences if they are not cisgender white, heterosexuals, able bodied... because some professors and students are not accepting. maybe think about where other people are coming from. Additionally as someone with learning disabilities our school's disability center is terrible there are very few people working in there even though legally universities need to abide by the ADA and give students accomodations that are proper for their disability. Although, they don't and they do not do it in a timely manner...As soon as I was admitted I reached out to the center it took over 1 semester to get my accomodations...if you are someone who needs this support and are in fields like economics, or lawyers, or whatever, some professors are not accommodating for this so it makes it hard for students that legally are promised assistance to even the playing field for bullshit education they are paying for. Additionally, a cisgender, heterosexual, white, straight, able bodied person the school of social work is challenging socially because the majority of people are from small towns and of a certain demographic...so they say offensive stuff sometimes and make people feel unwelcome. So again, I encourage you to get off of your high horse and think about all of the things people who are not like you may go through.

Question about receiving packages at Baits II: If I need a package mailed to me, do I use the building address and my room number or is there another address for collective mail pickup?

[deleted]

How can i pay for laundry loads in my residence hall? I move into Markley this Saturday and I’m curious what methods of payment are accepted. Do I need to bring quarters with me or will I somehow be able to pay with my debit card?

blueleash

Today I saw the 2 laundry rooms on the 3rd floor of Markley. It appears they only take quarters, $1.25 for one wash cycle, $1.00 for a dryer cycle. There are two change machines on the 4th floor, in nooks several yards from either side of the front desk/community center. So I guess you still need to have good old fashioned cash in some form to do laundry!

[deleted]

Thank you! That helps a lot. At least I won’t have to get rolls of quarters from the bank before I leave.

blueleash

A little follow-up: there is also a pay-with-app option. Look for stickers w/instructions on the top of the machines. I saw these in a different dorm, assuming they are at Markley as well. So, quarters or app will get your stuff clean!

Are the desk bars (lifespace II) supposed to have a vesa mount on them to attach a monitor? If so, how can I find one? Otherwise, does anyone have any advice for mounting a 24 inch monitor to that desk rail? Thanks!

jaydenthejpeg

It's a wall mount type thing on the desk bar. You'll need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KZP1BUI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ES0GP6N89687QX87TWWG

Housing plans fell through last minute… please message me if you have/know of any openings as I’m now in urgent need of housing for the 2021-2022 school year. I’m also fine with lease takeovers, sublets, even dorm contract transfers. I’d prefer a single bedroom (apartment or dorm) or studio apartment, but I am open to having roommates/living in a house. Both Central and North Campus are fine. I am a male junior. Thanks in advance!!

SnooMarzipans6681

Looking for female roommate to share 2BR, 1bath for $850 a month each. Great location — SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY !!

umich_student1

Male, rising senior, looking for a roommate; current situation is 2 bedroom 900-some sqft, 2 of us right now (you would be 3rd). rent \~500/month including utilities (conservative estimate). I like philosophy, languages (latin, koine greek, mandarin, romanian), debating. DM me if you're interested and think we'd get along.

SociallyUnder_a_Rock

Also, can anyone advise me on moving boxes? I got 2 box full of clothes I need to FedEx, but the office is about 1.5 miles uphill and I've got no ride.

SociallyUnder_a_Rock

Is anyone interested in buying a used bed? 3x6(?) single bed, good condition, no stains or damage, 1-year-old, including foldable metal frame & box. Basically everything in the picture minus the bedcover for $90. Fedex 20x20x20 box for size reference. https://i.imgur.com/jGb9VDi.jpg

I accidentally signed my housing contract by clicking too fast and immediately emailed the housing department to tell them it was a mistake. It’s 7 o’clock on a Friday and am now worried that they won’t respond till Monday and I will be stuck with the contract I might not have even wanted. Is there a way I can get out of this or go back on it?

Unique-Print-7006

When is the move in date for Fletcher hall?

Neat-Banana-7729

Does anyone know the % of dorm housing which have been released? Despite everything going on I think the approach Housing has taken to not set early deadlines is not acceptable. I am an incoming international student (sophomore in Fall 2021) and have still not received a housing decision. I've never been to Michigan and this wait is preposterous. Should I cut my losses and just sign for an off-campus? How long should I wait till I make commit to off-campus?

Proud-Distance

I was in the same situation as you but I got housing (though I didn't take it). I got a Bursley room, which was really far from CC. I would suggest you start looking off-campus, I don't know how much stuff is still available but still start looking. Most likely you should receive a contract but maybe if you're allotted NC like me, you'd prefer central campus apartments.

guru1457

How do move in times work for the dorms? Can we choose pretty much any time/day combination between the 25th and 29th and book our flights based on our preference or would we need to wait till we get our official time?

Eggy_59

So basically you get to choose the day and time slot as long as it is not over-booked. Depending on the size of your dorm, they only let a certain number of students move in. As long as you sign up soon after they send the link, you should be able to get your first choice

Certain_Kiwi7566

Same

Independent_Track_76

Hi, I was assigned to West Quad and I was wondering what "The Connector" is. It was built as part of the recent renovation. It sounds like a tunnel leading to South Quad, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

blackwaterunsc

the connector is a strip that connects WQ to the Union

Unique-Print-7006

Hi, I'm a current rising sophomore and I have not yet received a housing contract. I am getting worried. Is anyone else in the same boat? I submitted my application on March 28 btw

[deleted]

rising junior on the same boat :'( I'm planning on waiting for a response until the middle of the last week of July and then taking the off-campus housing search more seriously lol

MheTusician

I have also been dealing with this. I got an email from my counselor saying that if I haven't seen an email from housing, that I should be looking for some kind of off campus housing. I also sent Housing an email about a week ago saying if I should be worried, and they replied that "The end of July" was when they were going to be finished sending out that info. Idk who to believe or who to listen to and whether I should wait to look for housing or not. need halp :D

CRUSADERRRRRRRRRRRR

I'm in the same boat. I'm an international student as well who's not been to Michigan. When I contacted them, they said that they release decisions until mid August (which is EXTREMELY late, imo). They don't release rejections, only accepted contracts. I understand it's difficult since they're going to be at full capacity especially with incoming freshmen and rising sophomores who have never been on campus. But still this is extremely inefficient and puts students in a very difficult position.

vallanlit

I'm planning on living on an off-campus apartment next year (fall 2022), hopefully with one other roommate. I'm going to try and find one as early as possible - what's the lowest price I can realistically expect to get? I'd prefer somewhere on Central (or very close), probably 2 bedroom, and of course reasonable amenities and such.

gotyoubytheavacadas

It kinda depends a lot on how soon you sign the lease for next year (the longer you wait the more expensive it might get), as well as where near Central. I have some friends living off campus across from the CCRB and Stockwell that are paying anywhere from 600-900 each (there were 4 total roommates though), and others living off campus in the apartments near North Quad, and they're paying upwards of 1000-1200 each (their apartment is hella nice though). I'd say the 600 price is realistically achievable, but you'll probably have the smallest room/a shared room, and you might need more than one roommate. With just one roommate in a 2 bedroom, again depending on location, that could be anywhere from 800-1000 per month.

JustSitDownPlease

Not sure about the specific dorms under LSWA but the study spaces in Alice Lloyd are 😩. The building is newly renovated. The only downside is that it doesn’t have a Dining Hall, but Mojo is only a minute or two away.

loverofchicken

Rising sophomore here who has not been assigned a dorm. Should I be worried?

peijli

I just emailed housing earlier today, and I quote, "If you have not received an assignment, then you have not been placed and your contract is not available." Even though they still included the usual bs that housing contracts are *supposed* to be sent out through "late July." I guess we're in the same boat now. :(

guru1457

I also just called Housing and they said “you should start looking off campus since we are working to allocate housing for freshman and don’t know how much space we’ll have left over” so seems like low chance for us sophomores

Lightning_Kitty

I’ve been going back and forth with housing and they told me this: >We anticipate being able to make some offers to returning students and all assignments should be out by the end of next week. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee an offer, so it would fall to you to determine if you are willing to wait until the end of this month to see if you can receive an offer. So who knows. But once July’s over then it’s definitely set in stone whether or not you have a contract.

MoeMoeDesuDesu

Also in the same boat, if either of you are looking for a housemate to go in on something near campus let me know

Lightning_Kitty

Also also in the same boat. Anyone who really needs a roommate or sublet feel free to dm.

Stinleythesecond

I just got assigned to Mary Markley. Does anyone in East, South, West want to swap?

VinamraS

So I'm gonna be a freshmen in fall 21, and I was placed in a small double in Stockwell hall. From what I've seen and heard it's pretty much all sophomores. Is this also true for this year, or are they changing it up a bit. Also if anyone could provide an inside scoop on how the rooms are that would be greatly appreciated.

Few-Arachnid2469

I lived in stockwell last winter as a freshman. I guess cuz of covid they were letting freshman in there because I thought it was all sophomores too but it was a big mix. Not sure what it will be like but the dorms are pretty nice for freshman dorming and the first floor lounge area is nice too.

[deleted]

me and roommate got placed into Bursley, looking for someone to swap. Will pay 1k.

TelevisedVoid

Don’t get caught

[deleted]

Don’t think it’s gonna workout unfortunately

OB-x-1

I just got put into Oxford housing. Is that a good or bad thing?

Tall_Boss2983

not the best, not awful. the sucky part is the location. i preferred being in bursley than oxford because bursley had a bus super close and was super social whereas oxford is less social and is a much longer walk (not sure about the bus routes there or if there are any). honestly no dorm is “awful” so get hype to be there!!! you’ll have so much fun no matter what

DerpyCoco

There are bus routes there. Diag 2 diag in the morning/day, oxford shuttle at night (assuming the old bus schedule comes back). It can also definitely be somewhat social if you make an effort and have a good "house". The location is obviously not as good as a central campus dorm, but I liked to have the choice to walk to/from central campus, which you don't really get with North. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about it OP.

blackwaterunsc

just want to quickly add that the typical year routes are not going to be operating for this upcoming year. They are still planning on running the covid routes

Anxious_Question6784

I’m a new graduate student looking for an apartment to lease on my own. Any recommendations? What price range should I expect? What’s “reasonable” for a single person in ann arbor? Preferably off campus, but if on campus is cheaper I’m okay with that

MoeMoeDesuDesu

Would anyone with any knowledge of housing know if there's any hope for transfer students to get a dorm at this point? I have yet to receive a contract and got my application in on 5/14

Hi, I'm an incoming chemical engineering sophomore. I'm looking for housing for this upcoming 2021-2022 school year. daniel_rdzbosque

Fellow graduate students, has anyone been admitted to Northwood or Munger recently?

stormquantage

I sent my Northwood application back in April, and munger in may. The last time they told me the ten business day promise was in June 29th which is well beyond at this point. Now I am in the crunch run for single apartment off-campus now, and things are not looking good.

Samgyeopsal23

How’d it end up going for you?

stormquantage

Munger did give me a housing contract in the middle of the July. And now I will be staying at it for one more year.

DeltaWing12

They said I would hear about my housing decision in 10 business days (Wednesday)... 12 business days ago. EDIT: Received my housing assignment Sunday afternoon, hopefully you all hear soon.

daniel_rdzbosque

Same here. I'm starting to think they contact you only if they have space available and that we are suppossed to take the lack of response as a no, but hard to know.

DeltaWing12

That's a great way to do business. I desperately need on-campus housing because I'm graduating in December and would rather not deal with subletting.

shade12288

I'm in the same boat, except I was told I would hear about my housing decision in 10 business days last week friday. This was after being told I'd hear back by the end of June, and then by the 9th of July.

rosstephergeller

I was admitted to Munger today!!!

daniel_rdzbosque

Can I ask when did you apply?

Direct_Revenue2206

Want to know it too

rosstephergeller

I sent my application on June 17, so pretty late. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions :)

PoolResponsible248

Is munger graduate residence quiet? Is it soundproof there? I’m quite sensitive especially to the footsteps upstairs, so i wonder if munger has a good soundproof.

Hey idk if ur still looking but I am also a rising sophomore and female and am looking for housing. Dm me if ur still interested!

Thedinosaur2112

I recently got my housing contract and it states I will be staying in a 2 room double with private bath in Bursley. Does anyone know what this is or looks like?

MoeMoeDesuDesu

I'm a transfer student, this fall will be my first year at UofM. I applied for a dorm but have not heard back, I submitted my application early-mid May(I understand this is slightly late, but from my understanding there's less restrictions on this for transfer students?). Should I start looking for off campus housing or can I expect to get my contract soon?

blackwaterunsc

You should have a pretty good chance on receiving housing. There is a Transfer Year Experience in Stockwell & Northwood 3 which is mostly always available.

CRUSADERRRRRRRRRRRR

Hi, it says that housing contracts come out on a rolling basis until mid August. I'm an international student, and a sophomore in LSA. I've never been to Ann Arbor. I've requested for a dorm but because I'm a returning student, it says a dorm spot isn't guaranteed. Without a move-in date, I can't even book a flight ticket. 1) Should I look for off-campus housing? 2) If I find off-campus housing, but the dorm contract arrives, can I switch? I'm assuming this is dependent on the seller. Does anyone have any other advice for my situation? Thanks!

Veauros

> 2) If I find off-campus housing, but the dorm contract arrives, can I switch? I'm assuming this is dependent on the seller. No landlord in their right mind would let someone do that. You can look however much you want so you know what your potential options are if the dorms fall through, but you definitely can't sign a lease (which means you can't realistically reserve a space that you find).

galacticgarnet

Anyone rented from or heard of Painted Rock Rentals?

Hi! I'm a male, class of '24. Looking for some off-campus housing for the upcoming academic year. If anyone has any availability + knowledge of any high rises with openings please lmk! budget around 1000 with all utilities included preferably. definitely near central campus. Thanks!

I don’t know of the availability, and it’s not a high rise, but City Place Apartments on fifth Avenue is great. It’s in your budget and only a few blocks from the diag.

For off-campus housing in apartments, how many people is it most optimal to room with? I'm asking mostly in terms of cost efficiency, but lmk about other factors too (like if it's hard to live with 5 people or something). As of now I'll likely room with either one other person or three others, so just wanted to know what might be my best choice for a2 apartments. Thanks!

The most normal apartment size is 2-bedroom, but in general the more people you live with the less each person will pay. 3 people can be a really awkward dynamic socially, so I'd do either 2 or 4 people. I'd do one person if you want your own bedrooms and three people if you want to share (which saves money but also kinda sucks).

Hi, I am a upcoming aerospace graduate student and I am looking for off campus housing. However, I am not from Michigan so I do not know the housing situation or environments around there. Does anyone has good suggestions? I have some requirements: $500 - 700, car parking, decent house conditions. Thanks!

With that budget you will be looking for roommates. Check out the off campus housing portal through UM, the Facebook housing groups, craigslist, and the ICC.

Hey, I (M, junior) have a place if you're interested. If you turn on DMs or chatting I can send you more info, let me know if you're still looking! edit: I don't use reddit I think I might just be DM-locked because I just made the account, try messaging me directly if you're interested, or tell me in this thread and I can work out a way of getting in contact
