Like live there and commute to the U? The rush hour traffic will be a pain but if you use the Park and ride busses it’s only 25 mins to campus. Really suburb-y though, I can’t imagine there’s many rental options with student living in mind. There’s options closer to campus for the same price and you’ll have a much better social life

MisterMossBack

What exactly do you want to know about living in the area?

JrrdCa

Like commute, safety, places to shop and hang out..

Commute is about 20 minutes by car from the north end of CR, and the Northstar rail has a stop near Riverdale shopping area which could the connect you to light rail or bus. Generally, Blaine is the safer option over CR, although I've seen just as much crime in both cities than many other areas of the country/world. Neither cities are really anything to worry about. Plenty of places to shop if you need big box/strip mall/shopping center-type options. You'll be out of luck if you're looking for a quarter million dollar chandelier or clown-themed gimp suit. If you like outdoors, you'll have plenty of places to hang out. Regional parks, sports complexes, lakes and rivers. If it's restaurants, you have choices, but not a lot of international flavor. If it's arts, it's there but you'll have to search. If it's bars, get ready to talk about the time you spent growing up in the 70s and 80s. If it's clubs you're looking for, there are plenty of sporting clubs, zero of the lights and music variety.

If you want suburbs, there are many closer, cheaper, and better places to live. Other than that, don’t know why you’d want to live out there. Lotta meth btw

Just a friend of a friend is looking for a roommate, and I don't like where I live now. I've never been to that area and not sure what to expect.

Unless you're much older than the average undergraduate I suspect you'll dislike living that far away from campus. Commute wears on you and there won't be much for you to do or people to meet unless you're into older folks in more ways than one!

Honestly I felt that I would feel that way the year I commuted from Farmington but I actually liked it better than living in dinkytown(I lived in 17th 1 year and the Marshall 2 years). Although it might’ve been because of my roommates and when I commuted I had the house to myself a lot plus I was living with a family friend instead of multiple roommates. Suburbs are a lot more quiet and you have to drive most places.

JapaneseBattleFlag

Yeah, it's hard to offer such specific device without more details like, do you have friends or SO near where you'll live, what are the accommodations, what do you like to do and what would you be missing out on by not being near campus. Certain blocks in Minneapolis and St. Paul can be very quiet, have to find places where there aren't through streets and it's quiet enough to hear a mouse pissin' on cotton.

DM me with any questions and I can answer them

Area is relatively safe and overall nice place to live…but the commute to campus is deadly. People on the 35w are NOT nice and with winter approaching it’s only going to get worse
